Comparing Bosh to other team leaders in the clutch
Since it's basically the half way mark, I wanted to compare how well Bosh has performed in the clutch compared to other teams leaders so far this year. I'm guessing some of you are familiar with the 82games.com clutch section. Basically it tracks your stats during the final 5 minutes of games when neither team is ahead by more then 5 points, and also overtime. I used the people on each team that preformed the best during these situations. Some people that were unexpected were Rudy Gay having better stats then Gasol, and Felton scoring/getting to the line much more then Crash, Okafor, and Richardson.
The Majority of these guys are on the floor a high % of the time as expected during these times so fatigue shouldn't me much of an issue with how well they perform.
pp/48-Shows the rate someone is scoring.
EFG-Shows how efficiently they are scoring from the feild including 3's but doesn't take into account the free throw line.
Dfraw-Shows how much they are getting to the free throw line.
Indide/Outside-Shows the % of shots they scored near the basket, or with jumpshots.
Pass rate- shows how often they are getting assists.
Block rate- Shows how much they are blocking the ball
Rebound-Is a score that takes into account how many possible rebounds they could of had on the deffensive, and offensive board, and how many they got.
Hands-I believe is calculated by turnovers, and pass rate.
If you want to see a bit futher detail of how they come up with some stats go here. http://www.82games.com/0708/07TOR14E.HTM
So far this year this is how he ranks.
Bosh PP/48-10th EFG%-6th Inside-2nd FDraw-17th Pass-15th Rebound-5th Block-7th Hands-14th
Obviously he's going to get more blocks then Joe Johnson, and less assists then Steve Nash. But I think it's good that even in his worst catagory he's still average out of all these guys which seems like a pretty well rounded crunch time player. Also that he takes it to the rim more then anyone else besides Howard, and scores at a high EFG%. For PP/48 he seems to fall on the 2nd teir. 1st teir being LBJ, and Kobe. 2nd teir is in around 40-45pp/48.
[code]Name PP/48 EFG Inside Outside Fdraw
Joe Johnson 35.6 .512 16 84 12.0
Ray Allen 33.6 .720 8 92 3.8
Ray Felton 36.8 .260 44 56 30.6
Ben Gordon 45.6 .478 20 80 11.8
Lebron James 62.2 .552 33 67 17.9
Dirk Nowitzki 41.3 .531 28 72 20.0
Melo Anthony 33.2 .367 43 57 16.9
Rich Hamilton 31.4 .537 19 81 3.6
Baron Davis 39.2 .612 27 73 12.5
Yao Ming 33.7 .441 50 50 26.1

- How the mighty has fallen. Wade's eFG% in the clutch is .354. Pathetic.
- Rudy Gay's eFG% is an ungodly .708.
Thanks for the advice sub. Couldn't find some of the stats like TS% during the clutch, so I used what 82 games had.
Yeah I was suprised by them too. Wade manages to get to the line quite a bit still so still manages to score a decent amount of pp/48. Ginobili seems to be a stong clutch player as well @ .800% efg with 49pp/48 getting to the rim quite a bit for a wing player. Cassell seems to be shootin ghot during the clutch so far. He never gets to the rim, or the free throw line, but is shooting a high EFG%, and solid pp/48.

Bosh has been good in the clutch the past two year. He's never going to be a kobe/lebron because you cant give him the ball 30 feet away and tell him to score. You can also double team him and get the ball out of his hands quite easily. Thats why we need a good wing who can create his shot.
Appel:
Bargs will be an all-star while Bosh averages 10/6 in Miami

i believe this happened twice, and he made those shots (might've been more like 25 feet)
miracles?

Orlando, and Indiana were the only teams I didn't put the best scorer for. Suprisingly Hedo Turkalo (34.3pp/48] scores more in the crunch then Lewis (28pp/48]. But since Howard was better in pretty much every other catagory, and is there franchise player I put him on the list instead of Hedo. For the Pacers Tinsley(38.7pp/48) was their best scorer in the crunch but I thought JO would be a better comparison to Bosh.HighOctane wrote:Great list. Where's Rashard? Doesn't he get paid 20+?

Thanks for the work Hendrix, surprised it's gotten so little views. Considering how people used ot be consistently on bosh about his clutch play, this is certainly refreshing to see. Bosh has improved in one area or another ever since he's been in the league, and I think this year (or maybe last) it was his clutch play. (Along with some marked improvements in D this year as well)

Terrific stuff, Hendrix...I've grown fond of the 82games 'clutch time' numbers, but this is the first time that I've seen a comprehensive analysis. It's very much appreciated.
Edit. one other note: Bosh looks to be third behind Howard and Turkoglu in the inside/outside breakdown. That certainly runs contrary to some of the Bosh discourse around here, and says quite a bit about his development; it's not easy to go hard to the rim late in games, when the defense tends to pack in and referees are sometimes a little more cautious to blow the whistle.

Yeah I plugged Hedo in on the general board, but it looks like I got a little dyslexic. Hedo's actually 76 outside, and 24 inside. So Bosh is second only to Howard in % inside which I was pretty suprised/pleased to see. Considering Bosh scores 25 more pp/48 then Howard in the crunch, being only 16% behind him he actually scores more around the basket then Howard as well. Howard scores 12.9 pp/48 around the basket in the crunch, Bosh scores 24.78pp/48.

I'm in a rush so I don't have time to look at the stats again, but does this mean Bosh is the best clutch big man in the league?
not strong, only aggresive cuz the power ain't directed/ that's why, we are subjected to the will of the oppressive

So far this season Bosh, and Dirk have been pretty much even for most clutch big man in the league. Score basically the same pp/48. Bosh scores at a higher effiency, probably because he gets to the rim far more. Dirk's gotten to the ft line a little more. Bosh rebounds a bit better, passing similar, Dirks turned the ball over a little less.
