Linton Johnson

Post#1 » by threrf23 » Tue Jan 22, 2008 8:55 pm

First, let me say I am well aware he is not a PG, and not a C.

Let me list 15 players,

millsap,paul
thomas,tyrus
barry,brent
calderon,jose
boone,josh
balkman,renaldo
armstrong,darrel
ginobili,manu
williams,louis
brewer,ronnie
bonner,matt
mcdyess,antonio
johnson,linton
daniels,antonio
maxiell,jason

When I played around with some player composite scores in the offseason, thats what I came up with for the league's 15 most underutilized players last season, by dividing overall score by mpg. Forget about the methodology, if you take away the older players who are limited by health, and if you take away Balkman - injured to start the season, and plays for Isaiah - just about all of these guys have played more minutes per game this season than last, and a few have been widely regarded as having stepped up their game (btw, Leon Powe was #16 on the list).

Anyways, the one exception is Linton Johnson. He signed with a Euro team. But, from what I gather searching online, he was injured to start the season, his team established a working rotation without him, and they cut him last month because he was getting paid so much without playing much. That means he's a free agent right now.

I definitely think he's a steal for anyone who signs him. For us? On one hand, he's very much repetitive alongside James Posey, he takes up one of two remaining roster spots, and isn't a PG or C. But on another hand, the guy plays with energy, is athletic, known to be fundamentally sound all around, good rebounder, and his jump shot is no longer the liability it used to be. For a minimum salary, if he is content not getting many minutes, perhaps he's a good guy to have around just to help solidify our depth in the event of the unexpected. And, perhaps we do well by preventing another contender from signing him.

Thoughts?

He actually played against my team in Euroleague this season. He probably wasn`t 100% but he loked terrible. When I saw him I couldn`t understand why he played in the NBA.

He is an average player. You have so many better players here in europe it would make no sense to sign him. It is not a coincidence he doesn`t have a job, ATM...

We actually worked him out in September, but he didn't show up for the second day. Eventually, we signed Batista and Jones.

He didn't work out the second day because he got guaranteed money. At least that is how I remember it.
