Gasol not thinking about Bulls anymore
By Mike McGraw | Daily Herald StaffContact writerPublished: 1/22/2008
MEMPHIS -- A year ago at this time, trade rumors sending Memphis forward Pau Gasol to the Bulls were rampant. This time, Gasol isn't getting his hopes up about leaving the 12-29 Grizzlies.
"I thought about (playing for the Bulls) a lot last year," Gasol said in the Memphis Commercial-Appeal. "I don't think about it anymore because I know where it got me, which was nowhere. I want to focus on my game and help my team win."
Gasol was relatively quiet Monday against the Bulls but finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Bulls coach Jim Boylan expects to have some input on any trade discussions before the Feb. 21 deadline strikes and said he speaks to general manager John Paxson frequently about personnel issues.
"As of right now, it's been kind of quiet," Boylan said. "I'm sure John's working behind the scenes to see if there's anything that he can do to improve our team, just like every other GM in the league is doing."

Trade rumors don't faze Gasol
January 22, 2008
BY BRIAN HANLEY
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Although Monday marked one month until the NBA trade deadline, Memphis Grizzlies forward Pau Gasol no longer is preoccupied with the idea of being dealt to the Bulls.
''I thought about it a lot last year,'' Gasol told the Memphis Commercial Appeal, referring to serious trade talks between the teams. ''I don't think about it anymore because I know where it got me, which was nowhere. I let it affect me too much last year. It was stressful.
''Right now, it's nothing for me to worry about because it's out of my hands. I want to focus on my game and help my team win. If something else happens, then it happens. But until something happens, there's nothing going on.''
Talks involving Gasol (19.3 points, 8.8 rebounds per game) going to the Bulls quieted in December but could be revived if the Bulls find themselves in a playoff race. Memphis reportedly wants to include Brian Cardinal, who's owed $13 million over the next two seasons, in any deal for Gasol. In return, the Grizzlies likely would want Andres Nocioni, Tyrus Thomas and Joakim Noah.
The Bulls have balked at including Nocioni, whom Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace pursued as a restricted free agent last summer. Nocioni said he was surprised Wallace never tendered an offer.
''He came to Buenos Aires and told me how they needed me and about what he wanted to do in the future with his team,'' Nocioni said. ''We talked for one hour. It wasn't close. Then Chicago gave me the offer [five years at $37.5 million], and I'm happy to be a Bull because it's the organization that gave me the opportunity to play in the NBA.''
One report had the Bulls also interested in Grizzlies forward Hakim Warrick. Bulls GM John Paxson has vowed to keep any trade talk as private as possible, but coach Jim Boylan was asked Monday about his input on potential trades.
''I talk to John a lot about our roster and our players,'' he said. ''I'm sure if things come up and John feels that my input is needed, he'll ask my opinion about guys. I've been in the league a long time, and I feel I have a grasp on players and what they can do to help the team.
''As of right now, it's been kind of quiet. I'm sure John's working behind the scenes to see if there's anything that he can do to improve our team, just like every other GM in the league is doing.''
And Boylan believes Nocioni is an integral part of the Bulls' future success.
''Noce has brought so much, some of it you can't even measure,'' he said. ''His work ethic, his toughness and the way he conducts himself every day is a good example for our young players. He puts his work in and plays through pain. He performs at a high level and brings it every night. We appreciate that as a coaching staff and a team.''

He's kidding right? Well, we don't have a quote here, I would be interested in what Boylan said. 'Some input' could be, Paxson listens but that is about it.
However if a bad interim coach really expected to have a say in trades...ouch. I don't believe it though. Probably not the case.

Huh?
Over his last 10 games, Nocioni has been "chucking" to the tune of .466 FG, .452 on 3's, a .571 eFG% and 18.2 pts in only 26.7 min per game.
When a guy is making that many shots, it's not really considered "chucking" IMHO- it's called scoring at a very efficient rate.

That's why we want to trade him

For some reason Gasol would become this loser team in Dinasty caliber team.
Tim Duncan + Kober Bryan together will suck in Bulls' uniform if we aren't able to set a system that works.

go figure, almost every trade from other teams fans I've seen involving Bulls include Nocioni and on a second distant place Deng and Wallace. As a matter of fact, out of the top of my head I can mention Spurs, Rockets, Knicks and Lakers dying to have him. Exception made of Knicks, adding Noc to any of those teams could mean a championship, but who cares about that when the word around here seems to be "tanking"

What is your definition of dying to have him, and where did you get this from?
I'm not against trading someone at the very height of their worth.

Re-read his post, he told you he got it "out of the top of (his) head", whatever that means?
And doesn't it make more sense to trade someone after the worst season of his young career, when his value is a washed up old man on an expiring contract and a pair of 2nd round picks?

To be fair, most people also say Noc is a great defender.

as in "what could we offer to get Nocioni". and as I said, got that from FANS (mainly boards like this), although there were some speculations from San Antonio media (specifically MySa) and the chances of getting Nocioni for Finley and a couple more players (don't remember exactly but I think Udoka and Vaughn)

Oh well that's different.

well, Popovich said it as well, but guess a noob like him knows **** about basketball, esp when talking about defensive teams. (not to mention he was considered one of the best defenders in Spain if not the best. You know, the current World Champions, maybe you've heard about them)

I'm not sure what he did in Spain, but I know in Chicago and the other 29 cities the Bulls play in, he hurts us defensively.
