But see, I don't consider New Orleans a story because we knew they'd be this good after last year. You can talk about Peja's return.

What's so surprising about the Knicks? Any fool could have predicted that they would suck this year. I guess you can call the Isiah Thomas situation a story of the year, but it's not really a basketball story.
1. Portland
2. The Lakers leading the West
3. Washington winning without Arenas
4. Boston off to a near-historic start
5. Hornets and CP3

1. Portland Trailblazers
Youngest team in the NBA, #1 pick goes out for the season and they win 13 in a row and in the thick of the western conference playoff picture.
2. Boston Celtics
How they've gelled so far this season and especially on the defensive end of the floor.
3. New Orleans Hornets
CP3's emergence as the best PG in the NBA so far, Peja's return and them being one of the contenders in the WCF.
4. Miami Heat
A Shaquille O'neal, D-Wade, Pat Riley team with guys like Haslem, Davis and Williams dead last in the Eastern Conference.
5. The Lakers?
Everybody had them as a fringe playoff team, yet they are atop of the Western powers.

Yup. I missed the link the first time through, but even after reading his explanation regarding the Knicks, that seems like it can fall into the "disappointing" category to me.
Either way, no biggie, and I do agree with most of your points kellex.

Re: Top 5 Stories From the First Half
I'll go with 5 actual stories rather than categories of stories.
1. Boston's back.
2. Portland already good, rest of the league officially scared for the next decade.
3. The Lakers, after everything, turns out they're pretty good.
4. Miami completely collapses. Good thing they got a ring when they had the chance.
5. The Hornets are good again, but New Orleans seems preoccupied.
I left the Knicks off because that story as written years ago.

Nice, didn't look at this before posting, but we have the same 5 teams.

I like this list.
To address the Miami situation that has been brought up a few times in this thread, it really isn't that much of a surprise. While I didn' think they were going to be as bad as they are this year, I didn't expect them to make the playoffs.
