Posts per page

Post#1 » by Comet » Sat Jan 19, 2008 3:02 am

I really don't like the current limit. It's like 11 posts per page I think. That's not enough IMHO, because it stretches out far too many pages.

I think 14-16 posts per page would be fair.

It's 10 right now... but I don't see why it's a big deal. It helps load time because there aren't as many posts to load.

The board would be ridiculously slow if there were more posts per page.

Even 4 more posts per page wouldn't make it too much slower. It's not like people are writing novels in their posts. Besides, there wouldn't be as many pages to load and read through. For example, if the limit was raised to 14 posts per page, and if my math is correct, a 49-page thread would be reduced to a 35-page thread.

It isn't a huge deal, but maybe just 2-3 more posts per page would be better than now.

Its not necessarily the length of the posts. For some it is the sigs and avys. Not everyone has high speed internet. Every new post usually means two extra graphics to load. Plus, you need to factor in animated sigs and avys. That does make it slower.

My old site had a user option to select number of posts per page. However, our software was vBulletin, not phpBB, so I don't know if that is even a possibility here.

I think it's fine now but what TB said would be pretty cool.
