One Bulls poster pointed out that they would be adding enough expiring contracts to possibly make something work in a Gasol deal (Duhon + other expirings + Thomas + pick?). That would make it totally worth it IMO.

Another problem with Noc is that he plays SF/PF. Ideally, Deng is playing nearly all of the SF minutes, and Joe Smith is very solid for around 25-28 at PF. Adding Nocioni into the mix makes it tough for Tyrus Thomas or Thabo Sefalosha (though they do play him as a guard) to get minutes and develop. The way that the Bulls are playing, clearing salary and opening up minutes for youngsters seems like a pretty decent plan.

Don't see any logic in this for the Bulls. Nocioni is awesome and why would you give away Thabo. . .

I think the Bulls are just in it for the contracts. Nachbar, Magloire and Wright are in the last year of their contract. this would free up about 8 million in salary which is probably enough to resign Gordon and Deng to the deals they want.
If Williams is added to the trade, this would mean that the Bulls probably won't sign Duhon whose contract of 3 million is also expiring next season.
I honestly don't know why New Jersey is doing this trade. They need inside help and aren't getting it with Nocione

This sounds like a NJ proposed trade, where Paxson listened but said "thanks, but no thanks"
I could see why NJ would want a player like Nocs, I'm sure there's another 27 teams that would also love to have his services.
and coming off the bench averaging 14.5/5 in 25 minutes per game, at 7.5 million I don't look at it as a bad contract for what he does.

I think this deal favours NJ too much.
Either way, most of you are thinking in why the Bulls would do it (ie. in order to get Gasol)
But I think another reason is why the Nets would do it. If the Nets think RJ can play SG, they may move Carter for Jermaine. And the have Noc at SF.
Or even still play a little small ball and have
Kidd
Thabo
RJ
Noc
Jermaine
I say that is a for sure improved line up, pretty good defensively too.
