Can you recall us making a trade with a division rival full stop?

Well yeah I know about that one, and I'd say it's worked out pretty well.

I'm just wondering if hoops actually has somewhere in mind where we got our fingers burned or this is juct chicken little syndrome, cause even I had to look it up to find the last trades we made with division rivals.

They wouldn't do it. I'd only do it if we waived Smush straight away.

No, the only trade within any division that I can think of is when Toronto traded Vince to New Jersey for Alonzo and a draft pick. That's why I'm saying. I just don't think teams like to do it.

seriously we're getting haslem..we gonna need to giveaway something..smush is nothing but trash but hopefully we'll waive him at front and sign somebody

Well, your question was when was the last time a trade between division rivals worked out well, I'd say that trade worked out pretty well for the Nets and Toronto gave the team to Bosh and I doubt they regret it.

Theres 100 things to consider when making a trade and I'm sure not wanting to see a player you traded 4 times a year might be one of them, but I'm sure it ranks much lower in prority behind say, improving your team... if a deal made snese for both teams the geographical location of them wouldn't be an issue.

Things did work out fine for Toronto, but it took them at least a couple years before it panned out for them. And I'd be willing to bet that the Raptors fans cursed the GM who made the trade (who has since been fired) for not getting more back for Vince. They were pretty ticked at Mourning, too.

I thought of one another one, too, and actually it happened this season. The Spurs sent the rights to Luis Scola to the Rockets. I'm honestly not sure what they got back, but I think it was a second-round pick or something. It definitely has helped Houston, but we'll have to wait to see if it helps San Antonio. I actually never understood why the Spurs didn't sign him, especially with Ginobili being on the team, too.

I guess the key is...do you help your team more than you benefit the other team? If you make a move and it helps your team but it allows someone in your division to gain ground on you, then I'm not sure it ends up helping you in the long run.

As others have said here anyway, I'm guessing that if Riley were going to deal Haslem, it won't be to Orlando because he could make a deal for him and not help improve Orlando at the same time, too.

Deals like that really don't happen all that often, though, so I'd guess there probably is a reason why. You don't just trade your player. You trade that player's knowledge of your entire organization, too. Whatever, if it happens, we'll see who it works out best for.

JJ fan myself but yeah For Haslem I'd trade him in a New York minute. I'm sure someone mentioned it before but Pat is not going to do any deals with us that make us better but the heat may very well be thinking of cleaning house. Everything I read in the media down here suggests they are in that mode. And they do want Carlos but not for that price.

Well thats the key to any trade, division rival or not, but there are different kinds of benefits as you saw with the Carter trade, usually one team is in it for short term and one for long.

Usually the team in it for the long term is already in a bad position, hence looking at the long term options, obviously you don't want to put any team over the top unless its a move that can put you in that position down the road, division rival or not.

i'd do it. but i don't think the Heat would do it unless they had a team ready to take Blount's contract first.

Blount + Haslem are the two priority contracts for them to clear. they add up to nearly 14 mil of caproom (and as of now, if everyone were to expire and they were left with Shaq + Wade + Haslem + Blount + a few pieces of change they'd be sitting near the cap). that's enough for a major run at a big FA for them.

Blount would be the first one they'd want to move, because at least Haslem has some talent for the money being paid out.

I thought Pat Riley would die before trading Haslem to us? Plus, Smush is horrible and Kedo is a guaranteed 10-point guy now it seems.
