Today is a blessed day. I'm just back from a basketball game where I made the game winning assist on a buzzer beating, game winning 3 pointer. I will never forget waking up the next day and thinking someone messed with NBA.com to fool the whole world about Kobe scoring 81. Thank you Kobe for everything you've done and if it's under the right cirumstances, do it again.

I must say this was one of the best games I've ever seen. I have it on my Ipod

If possible, can you please share it?

I watch almost every Laker game on TIVO delay, but that night, just out of sheer luck, I was home in time to watch the game live. It was probably the only game I watched live the entire regular season. Even though I was at home sitting on my couch, the feeling I had while watching that game was so electric. I felt like I was there cheering with the crowd.

The shot that resonates in my memory, is when he pulled up for a 3 and drained it, giving him 70. That number...70. I knew it was a special night, but when he got SEVENTY, that is when his performance went from amazing to historic. I remember I slapped the table and stood up in disbelief after that shot. I was drunk but it's still so clear in my memory.

Even as a viewer, it truly felt like the game had slowed down just for him to go to town

Kobe's 81 points game is the greatest game as far as scoring goes anyone has ever played in the NBA, and yes, that includes Wilt's 100 point game.

Pace- and minute adjusting Kobe's performance translates to like 135 "1962-points".

And to think that we were a part of it and we witnessed history right in front of our eyes .
How sweet is that ?

I'll definitely never forget that. That was also the day of my first ever post on Real GM, believe it or not.

I remember posting my thread saying that I was new, introducing myself, and saying how I never liked how Canada gave much coverage to basketball, unless it was the Raptors. I still remember my favorite poster, Poster Bynum (now EE) welcoming me to the board, and since it was against the Raptors, I got to watch that game. It was on The Score, and at halftime I was pounding my couch with us down by 18 points, I think it was. It was truly disappointing, then everything happened.

Like EE said, it was like the game slowed down for him, and he was the only one going full speed. Slicing through the defense, hitting pull up three's in transition over Morris Peterson, pump faking from the right baseline and hitting a jumper and the foul, breakaway dunks.. everything.

It was the craziest game I've seen in my life, and even my brother, who does not like Kobe and the Lakers (he's a Denver fan..) was speechless.

And then looking at my thread the day after and seeing Poster Bynum post with something along the lines with, "Now Canada will HAVE to talk about the Lakers".

Hard to believe that people were posting on this forum about this since early days!

https://forums.realgm.com/boards/search.php?st=0&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&keywords=%22january+22+2006%22&start=40

Man, Kobe will be seriously missed!

Then there were his accomplishments following basketball

The man had legendary work ethic, increasing his ceiling beyond what pundits had ever imagined.

RIP!
