No surprise there, who wouldn't love a coach who just tells you to run and doesn't care about defense.

Phil always coaches winners.

Why the hell would anyone want to play for Doc Rivers?

Unless it was Doc + three hall of fame players.

Players have always liked him. He's just a likeable guy. I've always hated his rotations over the past few years, but I've always liked him as a person. He keeps player's spirits high too.

What a dumb comment, really. It's not like he doesn't try to get them to rebound, play defense. He preaches it a lot, but they just aren't committed. He has two liabilities on D, Nash, who isn't terrible, but isn't great either and Amare who is out of position and is horrific vs. centers. Two key positions and they can't defend well there.

I'm really surprised Eddie Jordan didn't make the list. The guy has been coaching the Wizards for 6 years now and still has a great rapport with the players.

You come out with bad D for Mike Brown? Benched. D' Antoni usually lets his players just play. Plus D' Antoni just doesn't stress defense as much as guys like Brown, Popovich, and this year Rivers. Players don't like coaches that stress defense because it's hard and boring, it's like Charles said.

I'd rather have him than Phil Jackson. He makes better adjustments, better defensive schemes, greater variety of plays, and is just less drama overall.

The Lakers have basically one out-of-bounds play and one crunch time strategy. It's amazing how many times a team makes a defensive adjustment at halftime and our team looks completely lost afterwards. Phil even admits to costing us several games each season with some of his crazy lineups.
"I'm sure they'll jump off the bandwagon. Then when we do get back on top, they're going to want to jump back on, and we're going to tell them there's no more room." - Kobe in March of 2005

I would love to know if Doc's name would even be in the top 20 had the Celtics not landed KG and RayRay. This is the same Doc Rivers who was on his way outta Beantown with Danny Ainge less than 12 months ago.

Anyone know where he ranked in last year's voting?

I'm shocked Sloan managed 4%. I love Jerry and all, but even I'm not sure I'd want to play for him if I possesed any sort of NBA talent.

Have you seen Mike Brown's team? LeBron then a bunch of meh.

D'Antoni has 3 all star's, 2 first team all nba, a great vet (Hill), fire of this team (Raja) ...harder to bench in that case

I put more credence for guys like Phil and Pop than I do about coaches who just preach flopping and running like that tool D'Antoni(whos' team has never ever committed a foul BTW)
aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

yes to us fans doc needs a bit of coaching improvement but noone can argue that his players like playing for him. during their 18 game slide last yr that team still played hard for him and didnt point fingers at each other. many players have said he has a great bball mind and really knows how to coach you mentally and physically. his ex-players were part of the reason kg agreed to come to boston. chauncey, tyrone lue all said how much they liked doc and how much kg would love playing for him and kg has said in a NUMBER of interviews that he loves playing for doc and would do anything he asked of him because he respects him that much. i think their is a difference between the fan point of view because we judge a coach on w's and l's. But players judge them differently. Ray allen loves doc because being a former player doc understands the need to rest players and not wear them out. etc etc
