Did anyone else notice how Pop took Bowen out with about 6 minutes left in the game and put Udoka on Bryant to close out the game? Ladies and gentlemen i think we found our replacement! Great game today, Barry and Udoka did an excellent job off the bench.

I was thinking about it and i remembered that TD is taking 20 million less next 2 seasons and i was wondering if we could use that money to bring in Brand from the clippers? Could we if we wanted to, I'm not that informative about trades and what not, but a starting 5 of ..

Duncan
Brand
Udoka
Manu
Parker

.. looks very deadly.

once again, great win guys!

nope, brand is out of the question. spurs fans keep trying to swing it, but it isnt happening. brand is going to get a max deal from the the clippers, and being in his late 20's, this is his last contract to truly cash in on (unless he continues to play at an all-star level, in which case he could continue to pull in the bucks into his mid 30's).

and duncan isnt taking less the next two season. he left about 11 mil on the table on his extension, which take affect after the '10 season. so that did nothing for our cap situations now (which, by the way, has us only with the MLE, or about 6 mil, to spend next season).

brand isnt turning down 15+ mil per year to play for the spurs at ~6 mil a year. brand either doesnt opt out this summer, or does and resigns with the clippers at the max. id put money on it.

props to udoka though.

ic, can't we go over the cap or whatever and offer a full contract? Don't the knicks do that? I mean if it's bringing us more championships, i don't see why not? Once again, im not that informative with the "contract rules." Thanks guys!

no, we cant. the ways to take money on while above the cap are restrictive.

if you have a players bird rights, which means if they have played with you for at least 3 straight years (there are some other rules involving players acquired by trade, but i wont go into that), then you can go above the salary cap to sign them. you can also spend whatever salary exceptions that are available to you while over the cap (MLE, LLE). and you can acquire players in a trade, as long as the difference between the salary of the players involved is not more than 125%+100k apart.

you cant simply offer max contracts to other teams players unless you have that much cap space available.

I noticed that too that Pop left Ime in to guard Kobe, he's definitely grooming him to be the next stopper for us. Although Ime has osme sweet moves, that nice little pump fake on kbe for the 3 point play was great!

the good thing about Ime is that it keeps Bowen fresh and vice-versa, so they can guard the best player on the other team without losing a step.

Interesting on who will be the odd man out. I hope it's Vaughn. I'd rather have Barry start getting minutes at PG and have Manu backup SG and then Udoka at SF. Vaughn is by far the worst player on our 12 man roster. followed by Matt Bonner.

Man that play where Barry hit the three then got the steal and nailed another three was brilliant!

I don't think Vaughn's going to be a non-player. He's too steady and simple, hustles, and is a good defender. Especially since he was a regular part of the 2nd half-playoff run last season. And, was apart of several runs during the playoffs. Has been consistent this year in doing what he does effectively.

Exactly. That's going to be quite nice to have.

I've steadily come to be a fan of Udoka. He's better than I thought overall.

The one thing I like about Pop is that he isn't afraid of making an adjustment.
