Player Comparison: Thad vs. Posey?
Both are about the same in height, weight and quickness.
As of now, Posey is the better shooter & scorer, but I feel that Thad's hunger for the game could have a big impact in improving his offensive awareness (who knows his limits?). Defensively they're also similar, although Thad has a slight edge in length, and if he grows a little bit, that could bode really well for his defensive capabilities (which are already impressive considering his age).
Thoughts?

You asked in another thread, but I've been having a hard time really finding a valid comparison. Antawn Jamison is one I've heard a few times, and while I do see some similarities (mainly in their length), I don't think Jamison was ever the defender Thad is. And I don't think Thad will be able to create 1-1 like Jamison can. But then again, when Jamison was 19, he had a very unrefined game as well.
I've heard Josh Smith too, but I just don't see it. Smith's a truly unique athlete, and Young, while a very good athlete, just isn't that quick off his feet, or that explosive. Young also has an infinitely higher bball IQ.
Physically I could see a little bit of Deng. And he's a good rebounder, and an alright passer. But he doesn't have Deng's midrange game. Not yet at least.
I'm not sure. I'm honestly drawing a blank on the comparison.

I see the jamison to a degree and I agree on the J. Smith thing. I don't see him being like deng. I see a little bit of travis outlaw (from the little i've seen of him) in terms of size, length, athleticism and inside-outside game. Young has a much higher bball iq (particularly at the same age)
They say an analytics man doesn't have a heart, but I ran the numbers and nothing can be further from the truth - Sam Hinkie probably

closest comparison is Tayshaun Prince. Thad was once asked who's game his game is comparable to, and he said that its Tayshaun Prince. And honestly, I can see the similarity. Especially in the length, IQ and dribbling ability.

I have a hard time making any comparisons at this point b/c we really haven't seen enough of Thad to know his game. His skill set is still really developing. He's pretty good around the basket, long, active, and appears to have the potential to develop a nice outside shot. Prince may be a comparison, but I think Thad is more athletic and not as skilled at this point. He does have Jamison's knack around the rim, but not the outside shot.
So far it's been nice to see him develop, but I don't know if he really fits completely into either player's mold...hopefully he turns out to be a better version of either player....we'll see.

closest comparison is Tayshaun Prince
Thad might model himself after that, but I don't see the similarity in their skillsets.

Bobby Jones- the original.
Thin, long striding, athletic,. Not a great offensive game but a knack to contribute. Runs the floor with long strides. Seems like a team player and a winner like Jones was.
Hopefully he can have the same impact defensively (and maybe be a bit better offensively.) Eventually Young might develop into a different build since he hits the weights unlike players of Jone's era.

wasn't he originally a Nugget in the ABA??
In an odd twist of fate, he was traded to us by Nuggets coach Larry Brown.

AD, BK and Aguire where more pufe scorers than I eveer see Thad becoming. wewr they good defensive players?
As for BJ- I don't remember his play that clearly beyond his ability to run the floor, his length, defense and that he was a lefty. I looked at his numbers http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... sbo01.html
He never was a big offensive threat- never averaging 15 ppg- especially given the high scoring era. He was somewhat unique in tha he had the length to guard a forward and the quickness to cover guards- sort of like a Bruce Bowen type defender who could get out on the break.
he did not have a Bowen type jumper. he took nearly 8000 shots in his casreer and never hit a three (only too 17 attempts.)

I think a closer comparison is Thad and Tayshaun. Obviously, Prince is the better player right now, but in terms of size, length, and ability to play inside and out they have several similarities in their games. They both have that pestering length on the defensive end, both can shoot a little bit from outside (although tayshaun has an edge on Thad right now), they both like to post up when they can. I see Thaddeus having a Prince-like impact when he fully matures.

I'm going to say with wishful thinking, Shawn Marion. Just like Marion, you cant really run any design plays for him, yet he gets about 20 in a game. Not that Thad is going to average that(although he could) all of his points are usually off of hustle and clean up buckets. He has an incredible knack for the ball on the glass. that against the the raptors i think is where thad had 6 offensive rebounds out of 7 was a nice glimpse of what he can do around the rim.

completely agree... The Matrix is exactly who I was going to say. Remember.... thad is NINETEEN years old. He has a glass ceiling. James Posey just turned 31.
Thad is like gumby. Good explanation by Hewy re: running set plays. The truth is, there's really no player that Thad resembles perfectly, but right now, he's shaping up to be a lefty version of Shawn Marion.
