Some of you are losing sight of the big picture..
Keyon brings the defense we need, he may be a bit erratic offensively but most of our offense is pick and roll...nothing complex he can handle it as a backup.
We have to bite the bullet with him at the point for the sheer fact he brings it on defense this is why Hedo is the primary ball handler when Keyon is in the game if any of you have noticed.

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

there's not enough difference between the guards to make a major impact on our W's and L's, short of how much of a liability they are on the night. and that's negated when every guy on your team can seemingly knock them down at will from deep.
I agree, but I do think we should definitely look to get in the picture of an expirings/1st for Andre Miller trade and get a long-term stable PG in place.
PF and SG will be easier spots to fill via MLE, Battie returning and The Vasquez Mission, IMO.

I just don't see why you think Andre Miller is the answer. The only seasons he has made the playoffs was when he had Carmelo Anthony and Marcus Camby as his teammates. Melo and Camby were the difference then. Miller couldn't make the playoffs with Elton Brand and Corey Maggette as teammates. He has done nothing to prove that he is the answer to anything if you ask me. And I don't think you can count on Vazquez for anything. He has kicked the Magic in the teeth twice. I'm not relying on that guy for anything in the future.

He's not a huge difference maker but he's a steady PG who will run a team and the best we can get as an upgrade. IMO Lewis,' Turkoglu and Dwight's production would all be more consistent with Miller to distribute the ball consistently.
I'm not counting on Vasquez by any means but it's a fact that Battie should be back on this team after this season and it is still easier to find a PF or a SG than a consistent PG with some size. PG and C are the hardest positions to fill.

For $9.5 millon to $10 million a year (that's what Miller makes), I hope you can be a steady PG. Plus, he's not exactly a spring chicken, and I don't see him as a long-term piece of the puzzle. Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's terrible, and he does have some size. I just think he hasn't done a lot to merit all the fawning people do over him on this board. If the Magic make the playoffs this season, then the point guard trio that you all love to hate so much (in a 2-1/2-year period) would have made the playoffs almost as much as Andre Miller in his nine seasons in the league -- and the three of them together would have made about the same amount of money, too.

I don't think people are fawning over him per se, it's more a matter of most of us seeing a viable replacement and running with it.
$9.5-$10 mil is probably around standard for a 7.5-8 assist, 15 ppg guy, which I think he could be again on this team. Possibly the points would be lower and the assists higher. Either way, I think we'd win more with consistent play from the point.
He's not a spring chicken, he's actually around his prime and I think on a decent team you would see that. PG's usually seem to last a little longer than some of the other positions these days, especially ones who rely on their playmaking ability - see Nash, Kidd. Others are still helpful to teams past their prime, but I think Miller would be off the books by then and maybe Nelson would have improved. Another advantage would be that Nelson could play the gunner role some have suggested, providing a spark off the bench, upping the tempo and even playing occasional minutes at SG.

We don't need a pg that badly, Hedo handles the ball as much as our PG's, we need to address PF first, then worry about secondary issues like the backcourt.
Dooling and Arroyo/Nelson are enough if we compliment the PG position with enough talent.

That's exactly why we need a PG. We are a team without a rudder. We can point the ship in the right direction but it takes a lot more energy than it would with a full time starting PG who can handle the job.

The Magic had exactly one TO from 96 minutes of guard play on the road to a great team. What rudder do you speak of?

No doubt that's a great number.
However, it's about getting people involved. It's about running an offense. It's about driving and dishing. Etc, etc
I think the Jameer of the beginning of the season is what we need.
