Gerald Green, newest pieace to broken sg position??

Post#1 » by bq113 » Sat Jan 26, 2008 4:33 pm

He jsut demanded a trade his value can't be too high right now and we were originally looking at drafting him nyways. I hope no one here tries to make a logical case that any of our current "shotting guards" are better are more talented then him...that would be ridiculous I'm from boswton btw, lifetime magic fan well since i was old ewnough to understand basketball

Pretty sure if the Magic organization wanted him they'd have drafted him

Pass, he's not that big of an upgrade over what we have now, and he definitely isn't going to be the starting SG for any contender.

he is an athletic freak that is all about potential
he hasn't proven anything yet I don't see why he thinks he should demand a trade, for the right price I could see bringing him in and giving him a try for the rest of the season, but since the t-wolves declined his option he will be a free agent in the summer anyways

he doesn't make much money right now b/c he is still on his rookie contract so we would have to probally take someone else back to match one of our expirings or we trade JJ straight up which doesn't seem logical

He must have some serious BB IQ, work ethic and attitude problems if he cant get playing time for the worst team in the league 2 years in a row.

Pass.

If he can't crack the lineup of the Wolves.. He wouldnt' be an improvement here. They turned down his option.... that doesn't say much about his value around the league. If they thought they could trade him, they would have done so and kept him under contract.

I'm with you Pancho. It seems like every time a report comes out that a player is about to be released, traded or wants to be traded everyone here wants that person.

In case you guys have forgotten, let me remind you of a few the potential we've either drafted or picked up through trades.

1. Darko Milicic - 6.3ppg, 5.2 rpg, 1.9 bpg
2. Steven Hunter - .5ppg, 1.2rbg, .2bpg
3. Jeryl Sasser - in 2 seasons, average 2.5 pts & is no longer in the league

This is only a few reminders. Who knows maybe this guy could be better if given the opportunity and coaching. Right now, when we're trying to make this team better, do you really want to use what we have for this guy or possibly get somebody who can actually help us win now & well into the future.

you never know... stuff like this happens all the time where a guy will never be played go somewhere else and become pretty good (i.e. Ariza) green is soo athletic hes a freak he could bring some intensity to the team maybe and i dont know that much about his defense but it cant be worse than what we have

I'm actually quite surprised by the responses on this thread. I think it would be rather wise for the Magic to try and get this kid if the price is right.

He hasn't played too well this year but he did average 10ppg last year with 20 mpg. He is really athletic and just turned 22.

He really hasn't been around the best coaching during his career. I think SVG could tap into his potential better than his previous coaches.

As for why the Magic didn't draft him, they were too busy listening to BHill guarantee that Fran would be the savior. I wanted the Magic to draft him and thought it would be a no-brainer to team him with D-Howard.

We need players, not potential.

PASS ON GG, hes a good example of why some players shouldnt jump straight to the NBA after high school. I remember watching this guy in the Mcdonalds all star game, he showed promise but he has no basketball iq and doesnt show much effort on defense. He's the future Darius Miles.

I dont get the hate, 10 ppg last year at 22 and being a ridiculous athlete makes him an attractive option in the summer in my eyes. Theres no need to trade for him right now, when we can sign him as a free agent for cheap $. Our 2 guard options arent great, they all average 10 ppg or less. Id really like to see him signed to a 2 year deal wit a team option for a 3rd for like 9 mil total. Van Gundy would do wonders for him.

I would trade for him. Maybe give them Garrity's expiring contract and 2nd rounder.
