Just wanted to stop in and give Iguodala some love...a really solid all-around game...actually, his defense - especially in the 1st half - was no great shakes, but all of the things that I have been concerned about were nowhere to be found tonight. Used the dribble well in the half-court to get space to shoot. Great shooting from the field (including 2 3-balls). He missed a couple more free throws, but everybody on the team seems to have trouble there. Charlotte went with a pretty small line up (Wallace at PF?), and that probably gave Iggy some extra space to drive the ball.
Okafor had a quietly-solid game...still not sure if he and Sammy could coexist, though...
These guys have 7 of 8 before the break at home...looking at that schedule, if they play like the did tonight, they probably will win 4 or 5 of those games...any better than that, and TGP will have to change back to the race for the 8th spot from the Rose Bowl standings.

Gerald Wallace USED Iguodala like he wasn't even there. They weren't matched up at the beginning of the game which goes to solidify that Iggy doesn't automatically guard the best perimeter player on the court. During the three isolation plays Iggy guarded Wallace:
1. Wallace blows by him and scores
2.Wallace blows by him and gets his shot blocked by Iggy from behind
3.Wallace drives and muscles the ball up through Iggy for a 3 point play
Iggy was also BENCHED with the rest of the ineffective starters in the first quarter.
Iggy entered the game with a different approach and it worked offensively, but the reality is that he had a 6'3" SG guarding him the whole game. I would hope that he could do what he accomplished on smaller players like that. Jason Richardson also had a great game at Iggy's expense. Gerald Wallace dominated the Sixers with driving the ball in the first half. Once the Sixers starters were bench by Cheeks, Booth switched onto Wallace on an iso play and sagged off of him making Wallace shoot a jumper that he missed. Wallace for some reason spent the rest of the game trying to make a perimeter jump shot like he had to prove a point. Gerald Wallace let the Sixers off of the hook.
Iggy had a decent game but none of those post-up scores would work on any of the normal sized SG/SF's in the league.

Great points, but shockingly two faults.
1) They switched on everything, so Iguodala was on everyone, just as everyone else covered everyone...nobody locked in on one player. Two of the plays you mentioned above were after Iguodala had 2 first quarter fouls, so his matador defense may have been more attributed to staying on the floor than poor defense. I didn't like it either, but the fouls were an issue early with Iguodala. BTW, I hope you are not going to come at us with 'Wallace is better than Iguodala' talk now...stand at the foul line and wait for his drive...can't shoot a lick from outside. He is very quick and aggressive to the rim, but the team in general, and every player, needs to be smarter in realizing he's not going to kill you outside the lane. They realized this in the second half where they laid off him on the perimeter and he had no FGs, only FTs. Nice talent, but very limited in his all around game at this point.
2) Iguodala had 2 first quarter fouls...he wasn't immediately pulled with everyone else until Cheeks realized he had two fouls and pulled him for Carney. You could see Carney talking to the guys coming out of the game, and then he was pulled to the scorer's table.
BTW...who is the 6'3" SG you are talking about? Iguodala ended up with Richardson (6'6") and Wallace (6'7") guarding him for most of the night. He took the ball to the rim and shot well from outside...he does need to make more of his FTs (don't like 5 of
As always, thanks for your objective analysis...right on the money as usual.

WRONG!
Iguodala only had 1 personal foul when Wallace exploded pass him for the dunk. Iggy still only had 1 foul when Wallace drove by him the second time and Iggy blocked his shot from behind. Iggy didn't get his third personal foul until the 4th quarter. The time Wallace drove on Iggy and muscled up a layup I lost track of when it happened (sometime in the 2nd half) but it clearly didn't happen because Iggy was in foul trouble like you suggested. Stop trying to mislead people. The facts can be obtained here.

Wallace is a better player than Iggy everyone knows that. As for Wallace's 3 point shot he has a percentage of .310% while Iggy is shooting .315%. Wallace has made 48 3's so far this season while Iggy has made 51. So if Wallace doesn't have an outside shot to YOU then Iggy suffers from it as well...

Iguodala and Wallace are both good players but not top level stars- and this game was a good example of it. Superstars are somehow able to bring it at a high level almost every night.
Iguodala and Wallace certainly play hard, and are capable of having a great game (Wallace has put together some great ones recently, and Iguodala has been great in his triple double games earlier thiis year and last season.)
Last night was more typical of what they do. Each was unstoppable for a half, and pedestrian for the other rhalf. If they can get over the hump and put together complete games that force the opposition to change their gameplan then they will have arrived. Both have exceeded my expectations as players, so its hard to know if either can make the step to stardom.
I am impressed how each of them has added to their games. Wallace was cold in the second half, but his jumper is much improved this season- as has Iguodala's in the last 2 years. Wallace has always been aggressive driving the ball. Iguodala tries to drive, but his balance isn't quite where Wallace is, and he changes direction too much.
That said, Iguodala has improved in this area since he entered the league to the point where he doesn't often get stripped and can finish lay-ups consistently around the rim. I would not be surprised if he continues to improve his finishing ability over the next few years.

Watching the Bobcats worries me about the Sixers future. They have 3 good young players in Okafor, Wallace and Richardson. They have drafted a bunch of other players that at least have shown promise. Yet they are a horrible team just like us.
It makes me think we are a lot more than one good PF and a decent SG away fom being a solid playoff team.

The Bobcats do not have a playmaker at PG and they don't run their offense through Okafor. We all know that you need a PG or C oriented offense to be REALLY good with few exceptions. They may have 3 very good players but you need atleast 1 exceptional player to be a REALLY good team. Scratch that. The Bobcats have 2 very good players in Wallace/Okafor and a good player in Richardson. They need Okafor to develop into a go to post player or acquire a Baron Davis level PG.

I would think that Okafor and Wallace would be great complimentary pieces to a great scorer who could draw the defense and open up more space inside for drives and O Boards.
And yet in some ways that team seems a long way away. I guess that is the PG issue- they are young and easily flustered, and really need some leadership.
