Hedo and Ra$hard

Post#1 » by mhectorgato » Sun Jan 27, 2008 1:37 am

This is something that struck me watching the game last night. So I did some research to see if it was accurate or not. (credit nba.com)

http://www.nba.com/playerfile/rashard_l ... stats.html
http://www.nba.com/playerfile/hidayet_t ... stats.html

My thought was that it seems rare that both Hedo and Rashard are hot during the same game. I threw out a number that is seems that it happens only 1/4 of the time.

I used the 18 ppg as the cut-off number randomly, because those are average/good numbers for these guys.

11 times did both of them score 18+ in the same game. Well we played 45 games so I was pretty close, lucky guess.

Of these 11 games, we won 9 - losing only to Mil and Phx.

***

Games where Hedo scored 18+ and Lewis didn't - 12 games. Of those 12 games, our win/loss is 5-7.

Included in this is the only game that Lewis missed this season, Hedo scored 24 and we lost to Memphis.

***

Games where Lewis scored 18+ and Hedo didn't - 15 games. Of those 15 games, our record was 10-5.

****

Obviously this doesn't mean that Lewis scoring is more important or that Hedo should score less. There are many other factors not calculated in here.

Just some interesting numbers, I thought, based on my hunch.

Now feel free to pick them apart or bust on Lewis, even though I didn't draw any conclusions ;-)

whats even worse is getting hedo, rashard, and dwight all going at the same time. they have all only scored over 20 in game once the entire season i believe. which is kinda pathetic for having a 19ppg, 18ppg, and 22ppg scorer on our team.

I think it's a simple matter of which one the opposition decides to guard with their best forward defender, personally. If given the chance either can get off but most often a team has one good defender at forward or can tailor their defense towards Dwight and one of them, but not both.

It takes time for 3 guys who need the ball in their hands to get comfortable together. Give the Rashard experiment more than half a season before dooming it to failure. The goal was never to win a title this year, it is to build into a title contender. Lets let this team grow naturally without calling the sky falling every 5 games.

If the question was 20+ ? Hedo still 23 games but Shard drops to 19 games. So 7 games 19 or 20 points for Shard.

And your point is ... ?

The thread wasn't to say one player is better than another. It was to show how infrequently they both are on fire. :onfire:

Not to crack on you here, but you could have figured that out from the information provided in the original post.

Wow, that's pretty amazingly bad.

I mean, what are the odds considering what their scoring averages are. I guess if two of them are getting it done on the offensive end, the other one is focusing on other things (like sucking?).

that's interesting. i guess he's worth the $$$ then.

how does their numbers effect Dwight? like, does one having a big game generally lead to Dwight having a big game as well?

(i'm too lazy to look these things up.)

thanks for pointing out dude's biased stats...and yea, hedo has more points when the magic lose, because he is the only guy that carries the team on his back with dwight. and for those complaining about all 3 players not going off, i'm just curious about the celtics and allen, pierce, garnett's numbers for that matter.

It doesn't really matter to me. I think the Magic do best when they all score well. I'd really this rather didn't turn into a Rashard fan vs. Hedo fan debate like we get going with the point guards. Why must there be competition between fans of people playing for the same team? It's a team game. We should be rooting for all of them.

One reason to had redundancy in Lewis and Turkoglu is so that the cover each other.

One question: how many games have BOTH guys been off?

This is the point here.

There were 7 games where neither scored 18+ and the record is 3-4.

Lewis is averaging 18 points and Hedo 19 a game.

Therefor I put in my original post:

I used the 18 ppg as the cut-off number randomly, because those are average/good numbers for these guys.

I am not comparing the 2 players by any means, as you are trying to imply.

I did say:

Obviously this doesn't mean that Lewis scoring is more important or that Hedo should score less. There are many other factors not calculated in here.

and also:

My thought was that it seems rare that both Hedo and Rashard are hot during the same game
