OT: Do you think Atlanta or Indy will make the playoffs?

Post#1 » by EnigmaticProblem » Sun Jan 27, 2008 4:03 pm

Atlanta or Indiana will make it to the playoffs? I believe those would be the ideal teams for the Raptors to play, were the aforementioned to make it. It's a stretch, I know. . .

Edited to make the title more descriptive. -Schad.

We'll probably play Cavs or Wizards in the playoffs. Hawks/Pacers won't move up past 7th spot if they do make the playoffs. We'll finish in 3-6 range.

We'll play one of them in the 2nd round, after they pull a Warriors on Detroit and Boston

For the Raptors to make it out of the first round, Andrea has to perform like he was performing at the start of the year.

It's silly to thing the standings today will likely be at year end.

Some team will make a run, some team will have a bad stretch the rest will be as is.

There's always that team that "played so well and looked like contenders but couldn't get it going after the allstar break..."

You know how it goes.

I too would love to play an Altanta or Indiana.

I hope we're the team that makes that run taking 3rd would put the raptors in good stead...

I agree with what your saying, but that basically means we shouldn't even try to guess the final standings. And where's the fun in that? :D

Okay, here's how things look like they're going to shake out as it stands:

1-2 Boston and Detroit, probably in that order

3-6 Orlando, Washington, Toronto and Cleveland in any order

7-8 up for grabs. Two of the following teams will take those spots, barring anything too unexpected: Atlanta, Indy, Chicago, NJ. Now, I fully expect Chicago to get their act together, so that really just leaves one spot between Atlanta, Indy and NJ.

If NJ does make major trades, especially involving Kidd, I doubt they make the playoffs. If Kidd stays and Carter/Jefferson leave, then you never know. It could even improve the team.

I'd say Atlanta and Indy have maybe a 50/50 chance each, but I doubt they both get in.

EDIT: Oh, and whoever gets the 7/8 spots will play Boston and Detroit in the 1st round, so it's kinda moot anyway. The important thing is that we're going to play Cleveland, Orlando or Washington. I don't want Cleveland. Kind of off topic, though.

Indiana, no. Atlanta, yes.

But the only way we can face Atlanta is if we finish 3rd and they finish 6th. I don't see them beating out Cleveland or Washington for that spot (if we get 3rd).

While I agree that Atlanta likely won't be breaking into the 6th spot, why limit the choices to Cleveland and Washington? Orlando's only 2

Thanks Schadenfreude for fixing that title. These "Do you think......." titles infuriate me when the whole subject would easily fit and often waste my time.

I'd say Atlanta has a good chance. Can't say the same for Indiana though.

6 playoff locks:

boston, detroit, orl, was, tor, cle

that leaves the following (seperated by 5.5 games):

atl, ind, nj, chi, mil, cha, phi, nyk

atlanta is still trying to win.
indiana is tanking soon - they will be out of it.
nj is in a delicate spot but looks like they may blow it up so they could be out of it.
mil is trying ot win.
charlotte is trying to win.
phi doesn't care at this point.
nyk is trying to win.

deng is out indefinitely so that really hurts chicago.

so realistically, the final 2 spots are up for grabs between atl, mil, cha, and nyk.

I see it in this order:

Boston, Detroit, Orlando, Cleveland, Washington, Toronto, Chicago, Atl/Ind/NJ (depending on their situation).

Atlanta or Indiana could get the No. 8 seed especially if NJ starts trading their players. Though that would be a quick exit for them. I also think Chicago will move up and get the 7th seed at the end of the day.

Boston, Detroit, Orlando are almost locks as the top 3. I think Cleveland will start getting hot now and climb to take the 4th seed, Washington and Toronto are almost interchangeable but I think Wiz get the 5th seed by a small margin.

Being the 6th seed and facing Orlando might not be the worst thing for the raps. They should try and avoid Cleveland if possible because James will just explode and carry his team.

I wouldn't count Chicago out yet.

But I mainly answered to point out that NY isn't going to make the playoffs. I don't care if they're trying. And I'm not really convinced they're trying. Maybe they are. It's hard to tell.

I would love to see Atlanta make the playoffs or even Charlote making it aas 8th. They play real good agianst Boston and they if they could do what G-State did to Dallas, that would be amazing.

How infuriated do you get? Do you start throwing tables across rooms? lol..

Personally, I see the Raptors rising to 3rd and holding that spot, barring major injuries. I'd love to see the Pacers rise to 6th in said scenario, though, I'm pretty sure either the Cavs or Wiz end up there. With Arenas returning sometime after the All-Star break, I don't think we can beat either team without spectacular play from Andrea.

Atlanta probably would if their management wasn't in such a mess so that they could trade for an improvement at the PG position. Even a guy like Arroyo or Ridnour would be a huge improvement for them, and could probably push them into the playoffs.

I guess I don't see them falling that far. But you're right, things could definitely change. But Washington would have to take the division from them first.

Well, if Orlando fell to 6th, by definition Washington would lead that division. But I guess I should have pointed that out. My bad.

Raps get 4th or 5th, the rest, who cares, we'll play either Cleavlend or Washington...so lets start practising containing wing players like Caron, Lebron and Jamison.
