Honestly, I could really care less that we lost. UW will beat Purdue by double digits at the Kohl Center. I agree the game was called poorly in both directions and said that in this thread.

Rushing the court is pathetic though, and I would say that to any teams fans that rushed the court after beating the #11 team that is more like the #15-#20 team on their homecourt. Might as well rush the court after every win then.

Rushing the court is for knocking off #1 teams, winning a conference or national title, etc. Not for a midseason conference game against a team not even in the top 10.

The general feeling around campus is that the students are looking for something to get excited about with this athletic department. Our football team is a joke. Finally our basketball team is starting to look like the real deal. I wasn't at the game, so I didn't personally rush the court, but I don't think it is as ridiculous as you are making it sound.

I was more mad about how our students suddenly became (Please Use More Appropriate Word) for booing calls and saying 'Boiler Up'. That is just ridiculous.

I don't want to make it sound like I'm just singling out Purdue fans, because I'm not. I've said this several times in the past about other fans as well. It's just my personal opinion. It looks foolish to rush the court unless it's really warranted. But that's just my opinion.

It was a nice win but come on, "Boiler Up" is the goofiest "cheer" ever. And rushing the court? Well I guess if that win is going to be the highlight of the season, why not.

I'd understand if you were Northwestern or something...Obviously Purdue basketball hasn't been absolutely stellar the past few years but it hasn't been that bad either. I'd understand a court-rushing if you are in a Rutgers football team type situation where your team has been the perennial doormat and you are now taking down the big teams in your conference that were taking you to the cleaners the past 10+ years.

I think the Badgers have won there 1 out of the last 20 or 30 years or something insane like that? I'm sure some of those teams were ranked in the teens that lost. It's not like it hasn't happened before. I agree you should have some enthusiasm about the emergence of your program just don't overuse the court-rushing thing...I haven't really read the game thread but before the game I said if the Badgers won it would be by 5 points tops...Purdue is a very good team and they play even better on their home court. It's not like fans who know what's going on really thought this was that huge of an upset. We overachieved and played a tremendous game at Texas and then whooped up on a bunch of mediocre to terrible teams. I don't think the #11 ranking is very far off because the Badgers will win most of the games that they were supposed to win but I think they'd have to play a flawless game to beat some of the teams at the top(Texas, somewhat)

Take a lesson from the team you beat and don't do what the general stupid fanbase here does...We made fricking shirts basically proclaiming us kings when we got the #1 ranking last year.

The majority of our fanbase thinks that P.J. Hill is actually a good running back.

I understand not everyone is going to be a realGM or an expert and everyone deserves to get enthusiastic about their sports but take this success with a grain of salt.

This isn't me being bitter this is me going on a rant of what I think is stupid, but also understandable about college athletic teams and I guess pro teams for the most part too.

Agreed. It is (Please Use More Appropriate Word).

Of course Purdue fans don't stop there. In addition to "Boiler Up" (WTF does that mean?) they've got the equally irritating "One, Two, Three, Four, First Down!" in their football repertoire.

Oh well, when a school is located in an armpit of a town I guess that you get armpit worthy cheers. Anyone who has ever been to West Lafayette will know exactly what I mean by that.

It's the worst college town in the B10 that I've been to, and I've been to all but Evanston and East Lansing.

I think Boiler up and that first down thing are pretty stupid myself. We have some cool cheers here but I think some of our crap is stupid as well.

I usually make an attempt to get my whole section of our student section not to do the lame FIRST AND TEN WISCONSIN repeat with the first down signal at our football games and "eat shi* fuc* you" chants were I think pretty hilarious for probably the first few weeks they were around and now are just ways for drunk college idiots that know nothing about football to say "hey, look I'm in college and I'm swearing on national TV/public." (Don't get me wrong, I am wasted at the games too but I'm usually sober enough to realize that most of the fans around me are usually either too wasted or know nothing about football.)

As for West Lafayette, that was the only other place I applied(Purdue) and After I was accepted there, I visited there on the day of the Badgers/Purdue game when both teams were highly ranked where we won on that late fumble recovery. I kind of had the fact that I couldn't afford to go out of state in the back of my mind so I probably wasn't going there anyways but the city of West Lafayette with all due respect just isn't set up very well and the atmosphere of partying isn't the same as in Madison but there's nothing wrong with that. I was somewhat unimpressed by the fact that it was homecoming and one of the biggest football games in school history and things were pretty much dead downtown...it just sucks that the campus and city are pretty much 100% separate so the gametime atmosphere just isn't the same. I've got no beef with it though, I'm sure I'd still be having a blast if I had decided to go there.

I think that it has become easy for Wisconsin fans to look down at other schools.

Wisconsin has had an excellent football program recently, and their basketball program is consistantly better than Purdue's. We have not had a great team in either sport since Wisconsin beat our football team on a facemask fumble by Kyle Orton. This has pretty much been our best win since that point. I think it was perfectly fine for kids to rush the court.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree on most of your points, but it is probably coming from a position of ignorance to the way that West Lafayette works.

I would just prefer that the thread didn't come to insulting Purdue fans because your team lost at basketball. That is really why I wrote anything at all.

You choose the school, you don't choose the cheers. I'm going to back the Gold and Black until the day I die, and if "Boiler Up" is the best cheer that they could think of, then that is the cheer that I'm going to do.

Position of ignorance? The town is just nothing special at all. If you had a fan vote in the Big Ten I guarantee it would come in the bottom three in the conference.

I guess. I have never had a problem getting hammered, seeing women, or finding friends around West Lafayette. I have partied in Madison as well, and honestly the scene didn't seem that different to me. We don't have as many house parties, but there is a lot of fraternity parties (probably 5 on any given night) and bars in Lafayette and West Lafayette. I guess I must be wrong, but it really wouldn't bother me if we were voted the lowest in the conference. Home is home.

I'm normally not one to care what opposing fans do. I honestly wasn't really sore about this loss, I really thought this game was 50/50 before it started, Purdue maybe being a slight underdog in terms of ability but having it in their home arena made it 50/50. After a few minutes of the game I proclaimed the Badgers the underdogs, I knew that Purdue always played tough D but I hadn't really gotten a chance to see them play much this year...they impressed me.

If the situation was the complete opposite, I would be pissed if our fans rushed the court...this is not something I am pissed about because the Badgers lost, I think this stuff is always stupid when it happens, it just happened to involve my team so I actually will chime in on the matter.

You guys haven't been far behind Wisconsin in the past few years. I can only look back a few years I'm too lazy to find something iwth a complete history of the rivalry but Purdue almost always beats Wisconsin at home...and in the past 5-10 years we've been ranked pretty high a lot so I don't see why it warrants rushing the court...all of those games listed are fairly similar. Purdue hadn't really had a signature win this year and weren't riding a winning streak but if you were able just to rank on the entire body of work and not recent losses/big wins you could look back and say that game should have been #17 Wisconsin vs. #22 Purdue or something like that and you're playing at home...I don't think you rush the court in that situation unless you win on a half-court 3 at the buzzer.

I didn't find West Lafayette that much different than most college towns. I have only been there a couple of weekends but it was fine.

I went to Purdue to get an education, not to get drunk! I chose Purdue over UW. I had a choice and I made the right one.

I can't believe a college graduate would stoop so low after a loss to start critisizing a city because it's just not a party town. The city of Lafayette / West Lafayette has many things going for it besides drinking and partying - one of them is cancer research.

what was the UW band's most requested number in the 70's through 90s? yes, it was the Budweiser theme song! You'd have thought Budweiser paid for and built the UW campus. More UW students know the Budweiser theme song than know the words to their own school song.

Your homerism for your school is very obvious already predicting a double digit win at your own school immediately after losing. The next thing you'll want to do is make some stupid bet on the game. and then you'll start saying how ugly the Purdue girls are. I can't believe you haven't started cutting down the red brick architechure theme of the campus yet. How about going all the way and start degrading our famous alumni? like saying how Neil Armstrong is really a USC fan?

You lost the game, so now you have to feel better by going to an internet chat forum and start insulting the school; it's fans and it's city? Does that help you win anything? or just help you get over your hangover? You're the better man for having more put downs? I bow down to you LUKE! the king of the put downs! if your team can't win, think up as many excuses for the loss and as many insults for your opponent as you possibly can? and making fun of a team's cheer? at least it's original and can't be copied like so many teams copied U of Michigan's Go Big Blue theme song! Boiler Up is an improvement over Go Boilers! Winning is great, but if you lose, make fun of your opponent? is that what they teach you at UW?

I once heard Luke's response that 95% of Bucks posters are also UW fans, so he doesn't really care what fans from other schools think. While that may be true, there are a lot of other NBA team's fans that read the posts here and sometimes add their own comments. If a Wizards fan came here and read your posts Luke, they'd think you are the biggest homer and sore loser in the US. the next time UW loses , how about taking the high road and accepting defeat? without the derogatory insults directed at the other team's fans, school and community? I can't believe you are still directing insults at Purdue and it's fans more than 24 hours after the game. Get over it! better yet, get a life! There are much more important things in life than whining about a college basketball game loss. And that's how you appear to others who read your posts! a spoiled brat who whines because his team didn't come through for him. You sound just like that spoiled kid who called up the school superintendent and wanted school to be closed and then recorded his wife's reply on Youtube!

West Lafayette is not known as a drinking/party town. And I'm proud that it's not.
