PG or SG in the offseason?

Post#1 » by Idunkonyou2 » Mon Jan 28, 2008 2:45 am

Who do we use the MLE on? There will be a lot of good MLE type players. I just wonder who we should go after? I personally would want to get a playmaking PG, who is good at defense.

That is pretty much who I was thinking of. We get Calderon for the MLE, resign Evans and Dooling, let Arroyo, Garrity and Augustine go (I would try and trade Bogans and Arroyo now, but I doubt Otis does this). Use the VE on a released/bought out good vet who wants to try and win a title. Move Hedo to the 2 like suggested in my other thread:

2008/2009 Magic

PG Calderon, Nelson
SG Hedo, Bogans, Dooling
SF Lewis, Evans, Rookie
PF Battie, Cook, Fran
C Howard, Foyle, Gortat

There is no way the Raptors led Calderon leave for the midlevel exception, especially not with the injury to T.J. Ford. They would match. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if their first offer is over the midlevel just to discourage other bidders.

Why wouldn't he? Howard is in the middle, with Hedo and Lewis on the wings. It would be a point guards dream come true. Even Kidd has hinted at wanting to come to Orlando. He knows he would have it made with Howard in the middle.

Calderon is an URFA this summer -

it is really tough on what we need. it depends if we make any deals before the trade deadline. who we draft. and who we resign out of keyon, carlos, and evans.

I would be surprised to see Calderon sign for anything less than 8M, and would not be surprised to see someone offer him significantly more.

i def could see him wanting him to come here but he would basically have to force a trade because he is a restricted free agent

I would say Evans and Dooling are a must. Dooling gives a ton on the defense and he also has his moments on offense. Evans is the all around hustle guy that does the dirty work off the bench (of course he is starting now). Arroyo is gone.

Also I wish Otis would go ahead and trade Arroyo and Bogans away for a PF, PG or better SG, but I doubt he does that.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/stor ... FreeAgents

jose calderon is a restricted free agent. and he is going to demand at least 8 million. not only does he score 12 and dish out 8 assist but also shoots a good percentage from 3 point land and most imporantly only turns the ball over 1.56 times a game. the best turnover to assist ratio in the nba by a decent margin.

basically getting calderon would be an amazing offseason.

That is obviously wrong since he isn't under contract next year. Hoopshype shows this and even though Realgm says he is a RFA in the FA section for summer 2008, if you go to trade checker it even confirms this was his last year under contract so he will be an URFA.

If he wants more than the MLE, then he won't be coming here. We shall see.

Yeah, Calderon's been out of his mind this year. He's got too much potential to end up here for the MLE. He'd be great here though.

He needs to opt out first. That would be awesome if he was willing to take a slight pay cut to come back to the Magic.

Even if he is, and I didn't doublecheck, because he has been with Toronto they can offer him significantly more money if they need to keep him -- and I think they will.
