Calderon doesn't talk trash

Post#1 » by supersub15 » Mon Jan 28, 2008 11:57 am

read more here

Raptors head coach Sam Mitchell believes Calderon when he says he is unaware of any extra attention, but has seen it for himself and said it's a badge of honour for the young Spaniard.

"I wouldn't say they're testing him," Mitchell said. "When they do stuff like that I would say it's a sign of respect. Guys don't talk to people they don't worry about. You don't get in a guy's face you're not worried about. You don't cheap-shot a guy who can't play. You want that guy to be in the game. That's a sign of respect."

It's probably going to show up in the daily papers thread, but thought it might worth discussing, given last week's accusations by some that Calderon is baiting the opposition PG.

I didn't see last week's accusations, but I don't think everyone appreciates the 3-finger salute from Toronto's supposed backup PG. Also, I wonder if the other players can always understand Jose.

Either way, I like the swagger, though.

Dang, I was kind of hoping it was all true. Our team needs more grit.

he probably politely responds to the trash talking opposing players:

"me don't speak englaise, sorry chiquita to make you look bad"

Calderon knows exactly what to say to the media, so I don't really believe him.

From what I see (just an opinion), he's got major swagger, and I think players from other teams get offended seeing Jose of all people playing with so much swag (and backing it up on the court).

It's not like it's a bad thing, I actually think it's great.

I love Jose, he's my favorite raptor since keon clark.
I enjoy every second he's on the floor, and his swagger has alot to do with it.
his D isn't the best but he gives it 100% all the time.

Well, believe it or not, at present (with TJ out) JC is the MVP for Raps.

We might have a chance if CB4 is not playing one game but we'd loose for sure if JC is not playing.

It's really not a bad idea for other teams to try, and push his buttons, and rough Caldy up to try and get him to get him out of the game. Bosh is our best player, but Calderon is the key cog holding us together right now. We're a significantly worse team with Dixon, and Murry running the show.

Meh, this article doesn't really tell me if he trash talks or not. The Last time he played against Payton (sometime last year??) he was not the confident starting point that he now is, and I'm sure his English just keeps getting better and better. I'm sure he trash talks a little bit - Possibly in Spanish.

We'd be dead in the water for any game we play without CB4. He's the reason we've been winning period.

I'd love it if he was baiting people with trash talk.

Either way, it's great that he doesn't back down from intimidation. Shows how much confidence he has, and how much he's matured since joining our team.

Reggie Miller said the best trash talker ever was Drazen Petrovic- and he couldn't even understand what he was saying.

I love this quote:

Calderon says he does all his talking (to the opposition) at the start of the game.

"Only at the beginning of the game I say how are you, how are you doing to everyone," Calderon said. "That's it."

True, but to be fair...

dic 07 @ BOS L 84 - 112
dic 05 vs. PHX L 123 - 136
dic 03 vs. CHA W 98 - 79
dic 01 @ WAS L 97 - 101
nov 30 vs. CLE W 91 - 82
nov 28 vs. MEM W 103 - 91

3-3 without Bosh

and last season we did well when he missed about 15 straight games.

Fortunately we have always had Jose or TJ

I know that CB4 is our best player by far but it easier to try to replace him than it is Calderon (since TJ is not available).

Given the fact that we we only have one PG at present, if JC is missing one game, how do you thing Raps will fare? We'd be the sparring partner.

This is the reason why I call JC the team Most Valuable Player. It is not based on value/talent but team present need.
Why do you think BC has made it public that he's looking for a PG?
