i want to spaz on the people, who think kobe is better than lebron but i wont not worth it.
as far as im concerned kobe never really had the torch , imo the lakers were nothing without shaq.
the heat were nothing without shaq.
most teams are nothing without a dominant big man.
isn't it like 8 out of the last 9 championships won were with a dominant big man shaq, tim D,ben Wallace.
but lebron too me can change this whole way of thinking about "needing a big man" since he can do it all himself. The man can play 4 spots on the floor. He bully's people in the post with his strength and athleticism. And he's never been a ball hog.
and that to me is why lebron is the best.though i hate not giving Tim D props because he'd be a solid #2 rank for me too start a team with.
top 5
1:Lebron
2:Tim D
3:Kobe
4:KG(who i think is being underrated in this thread)
5: wade or Chris paul or Nash(nash is brilliant in a different way)

I'm sorry but when Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson both call Kobe the best player in the league over and over, including damn near every current player, coach, GM and Lebron his damn self you have to take their opinion into consideration rather than posters on a forum.
Every year its this same Bullsh**, Kobe vs (insert players name here) and then Kobe goes on a run and those players drop off once again from the scene completely. I'm not saying it'll happen again, but Kobe continues to prove his doubters wrong at every turn, and I feel this will be his best year oddly at doing that and showing people ONCE AGAIN whos STILL the best player in the NBA.

I don't think that Kobe has ever gone on a run that put any significant space between him and LeBron. They just play different types of games. Sure Kobe is the better scorer but I still think LeBron is the better offensive player (that is my opinion but it really is just what you have a taste for).

I agree.
qtf = quoted for truth
Kobe has been one of the best players but he has never been the best player. This is by no means a put down, but Kobe is a poor man's Jordan. Just because he reminds people of Jordan, doesn't make him the best player since Jordan. Jordan was a superior player compared to Kobe.

It's never been closer, but overall, Kobe is still a little better.
This season only, however, I would pick Lebron. And in my book, A lot is riding on Kobe this year. He has to FINALLY make some noise in the playoffs as the "man". Lebron has been doing these last few years, Wade was doing it. It's time for Kobe to start having his crazy games (81pt, 50pt etc. games) with his lock-down D in the PLAYOFFS. I know what he's capable of, he's the most skilled player in the world, but I've been disappointed by his last 2 playoff appearances.
By the end of this year, Lebron could be ahead of Kobe, overall. We'll see.
Overall Top 5:
Duncan
Kobe
Lebron
Wade
Nash/KG (want to see what KG does in the playoffs)

Kobe
Chris Paul

IMO, based on the game the refs didn't call any fouls for kobe even if three defenders climbed on his back and the second last play with gibson falling and kinda fouled kobe for the steal. the last play were kobe couldn't throw a shot up was because larry and lebron doubled team kobe so you can't give all the credits to lebron. cavs played team d on kobe but lakers went iso with kobe and lebron and with the size and height advantage lebron shot a fade away. BIG Z was kinda big factor for the victory. it'd be a different story if bynum wasn't hurt.

You do realize that Kobe shot 18 free throws though dont you? The Lakers also shot 37 free throws to the Cavs 23.

And how many rings does Kobe have as "The Man"?theBigLip wrote:How many rings does LeBron have?
Both are GREAT players, and as someone already said, it really depends how you are defining "The Best" when it comes to these 2 players, to be specific. As similar as they are to one another, they play a very different style.

I think Lebron is having a better season then Kobe. No doubt. The reason being is that Kobe has taken a step back to play a more team game now that he has/had (Bynum, Farmar and Fish) and the result is his stats are down from the last few years. He is plenty capable of playing like he has the last two seasons where he was clearly better then Lebron. That being said, Lebron is having a better season and I expect him to continue to progress so yea, you can say the torch has been passed.
And yes, Kobe has had the torch.
Big **** Deal. Look what happened to them. SWEEP. Proving that they didn't deserve it. We shall see how far they get this year, especially since this season's Lebron is better then last season's Lebron. Basketball is a team game. I rather have 3 championships as a major contributor and closer (because we all seen Phil Jackson sit Shaq at the end of games due to is lack of free throw capabilities) then "lead" a team to the finals and get swept.

How many teams has Kobe lead to the finals by himself?
