ESPN: Nothing "Big" Happening Until The Off-Season

From Marc Stein's chat today. Nothing new - Stein has been consistent with this point of view - but I thought it would be of interest:

Steve (Chicago): Hey Marc, Andrew Bogut has been playing some great ball this month. Any chance the Bucks trade Redd or Mo Williams and start really building around Bogut?

SportsNation Marc Stein: (2:18 PM ET ) The last word I heard is that Milwaukee will not consider anything big like parting with Redd until the offseason. Could that change? I suppose. But I wouldn't count on it.

I still think that the Senator requires LH to throw under the bus, why should he let LH do anything now? He can "blow it up" and rebuild again after LH goes. Maybe he'll get 2-4 more years out of that.

If we are going to move him, it's much smarter to wait until the summer. Let teams try to bid, hopefully get a good draft pick out of it.

I'll say it here and I'll say it again. For all the Redd complaining on here, I truly think fans on here will not realize his true value until he is gone. We will not be able to sign a comparable talent. The only way we can get more talent here is to get it thru a trade, either for a veteran or a draft pick. Cap space will be useless to us.

I think that there is a common misconception between a player being good for a team and a player being good at basketball.

The ideal comparison is Ron Artest. There is no question that Ron Artest is a great basketball player. He is built large for his position, and can play in the post on either end of the court. He is also a pitbull everywhere on defense. Do we want him on our team? No. He isn't a player that would mesh well with this team on the court or in the locker room.

This is the problem we are having with Michael Redd. You also have to understand that other teams see these problems. Front offices are much more privy to this kind of information than our forums. Teams know Michael Redd is hurting this team, and are not going to just toss us a sweet deal because we waited. This is the kind of player that you have to deal at the deadline to a team that thinks they are going to compete for it all this season. I, personally, think it will be difficult for any deal to make me regret trading Michael Redd right now.

Tom Oates is a columnist for the Wisconsin State Journal. He's a very good guy and a good writer. However, he doesn't cover the Bucks regularly. Most of his time during the winter is spent covering the Packers.

The Bucks would be even tougher to beat if Redd would buy into the offense completely.

Interesting quote from Bogut about how teams know that Redd is going to be force fed the ball to score...makes the Bucks pretty one-dimensional and teams know it. Eddie Jordan said the exact same thing.

I'm sure his speculation is sound, but the drumbeat of the trade dealine is still 25 days out.....lots to happen between now and then...
