OK, here's a 12-player blockbuster I thought of which includes us:
http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic. ... 3#15287173
To sum up our part in it - Raef, Miles and Jack for Collins, Marshall and Snow. 3 contracts that expire in 2009, I think it's worth trading Jack which also opens up more minutes for Sergio and Webster, and of course Rudy.

On Sunday, Jason Quick ran a poll of which 3 players each player is closest to on the team.
Of the 12 players, beside Jack, questioned, 7 had him in their top 3. Two (Jones and Blake) had the answer "Everyone."
So, that's 9 out of 12 players who are close to Jack. The only ones who didn't list him in their top 3 are Frye, Oden, and Raef.
This means that Jack is one of the most popular guys on this team.
Don't discount his importance and influence.
A trade for the sake of a trade, or a trade in order to ditch Miles, is not worth it in my opinion.

I would say no to this trade from the Blazers perspective. The reason is I don't want to do any trade that has the Blazers trading away the best player and taking as many players with limited value as they are giving up. This trade helps our plans for the summer of 2009 and on that basis, it might be worth it but I'm not sure.

The significance of this is only Jones and Blake was bright enough not to answer a stupid question.

Clearly it sucks to send Jack out because he is well liked on the team and seems to be taking on a leadership role alongside Roy, but the reality is that he hasn't been the greatest fit for us recently. We keep trying to play him as PG and he doesn't have the court vision or decision making skills to be one. He's pretty obviously the odd man out in our rotation and for that reason he'll be coming up in trade scenarios at the deadline and draft for a while.
If the end goal we have is to get cap space for the summer of 09 then we should certainly be trying to get Miles and his contract out of here. That said I agree that this isn't the best time to do it. Right now we shouldn't be looking for a cost cutting move, do that come draft night. I feel that the trade deadline should be a time to increase our talent in moving to the playoffs, not diminish it. I guess the question is, are teams desperate enough now to take on Miles, and not desperate enough come draft time?
And honestly is there any trade with Cleveland in which we don't send out Darius that people would consider?

I'll take Simmons for Jack. He's raw, but could be usefull on the boards. I would also open up the door for trading away Frye with our pick to move up in the draft. I think Frye is also the odd-man out in our rotation when Oden will join us, cause we need a 3rd bigmen tandem (LMA-Oden and Outlaw-Oden being the other 2), and clearly LMA-Frye and Outlaw-Frye are not adequate as wer'e seeing this season.

I can pretty much guarantee the Blazers would never accept that deal.

I'm not sure this is true. He seems to play the entire forth quarter. Saying he's the odd man out is like saying Travis is the odd man out in our forward rotation.

No. And really I don't see any realistic deal that doesn't send out Darius.
There's plenty of pie in the sky deals I'd do in a second. If we could trade for Chris Paul or Ben Gordon I think it would be worth the risk of losing some of the chemistry that people credit our winning ways with.
But that's not gonna happen and trying to do something like Jack for shooting guard or Sergio for a bruiser up front doesn't seem worth the risk. You factor in an extra 9 mil in cap space for 2009 and it seems like a deal worth doing.

Hmmm, Jack has been playing the backup 2 most of the time! He is one of the only guys of the bench to go to the basket consitently. Playing with outlaw, jones, frye and sergio, has been pretty darn succesful. I really don't know where you are coming from with your observations. Jack has not been playing point very often over the 20 or so games.

I'm open to the idea of moving Jack, but I haven't seen any trades on this thread that I'd pull the trigger on. And looking at Cleveland's roster, I don't think a trade is out there.
Jack will be very near impossible to trade by himself because (as many have pointed out), he's simply an average player. Meaning we'd only get an average player in return. At most, we'd get a good player who has character problems on his current team, but we wouldn't do that trade.
Although Jack is average, he adds a lot to the chemistry on this team. He is well liked, and he's one of the more vocal Blazers. He's taken a bit of a leadership role.
Therefore, trading Jack straight up is likely to be a lateral move or a step backwards.
We could always go for draft picks, but Jack's not going to net a top 5 or maybe even a top 10 in return.
And we certainly won't get anything of value if we attached Miles to Jack and trade them both.
A Jack trade will probably need to include either Frye or Webster. Then, and only then, will we get someone who can potentially make us a better team.
So far, I haven't seen any scenarios that's more than a trade for the sake of making a trade.
