I don't understand why any thread on one player's habits has to immediately turn into who that player is more valuable than. Give it up already, no one player is winning us games, it's a team effort.

Calderon = Nerd

Nerds do not trash talk. They do the action on the floor! Trash talkers that can't back themselves up (Darrick Martin) are pure losers. By the way, Calderon may be scared that he may say something wrong or incorrect, beause he still isnt too comfortable with speaking English. Plus tell me how many European players talk trash? Exactly there is none. They all play the game and do the action on the floor.

Calderon, as a Spanish guy, doesn't need to trash talk in order to piss off his opponents. He can just talk about the weather, in Spanish, and randomly throw a couple English words in...such as "your mother", and "your sister".

I think some people might misinterpret what they see from Jose.

He talks nonstop. He talks to himself, he talks to his teammates... but I don't think he's really talking to his opponents. He's just focusing on the game.

But I can see how that on its own might unintentionally rub people the wrong way - like his celebratory (not mocking) 3 finger salute.

I've liked him from the beginning - I just felt the need to defend the other PG I like too from unwarranted attacks. :D
Raptors Season Ticketholder since the 2000 playoffs, through all the lows... build to the championship high... to Tampa and back again.

Not really, I'm fairly certain everyone who's ever spent any time even just on community courts knows that with trash talk comes a specific kind of body language. Speaking in another language might just make the opposing team more pissed.

Calderon put on a poker face. if he claims he doesn't talk trash and his command of English eez nah soo goo', then i call his bluff.
enough players have been annoyed by his jibbah jabbah for me to think that hes not a poster boy.

Before anyone rants and hates, i will state: Calderon is one of my favourite Raptors. i hope he plays here for another 10 years and seems to be an incredibly likeable guy, a great team player. but, this is what i've observed:

-he flops more than a Milli Vanili comeback record
-if he's tapped, he acts like he's shot
-if he fouls a player, he reacts like you've just told him that his birthmother is not the woman he thinks she is
-you always see him talking to refs after fouls, at timeouts, etc. to sell the abovementioned foul that did not exist
-the game vs the Bucks, he was definitely yapping it up and going at it with one of the Bucks' players and the refs had to step in

my suggestion is that if he wants to take the next step, i would stop with the talk and beat them with actions.

lol. i thought it was funny that he said the only talking he does is before the game when he says, "hi how are you?"

The three point signature sign, as others already mentioned he likes to talk in Spanish a lot, he's very vocal on the floor. He's a very pesky defender too, he'll get all in your face, he even has that double clap move he'll use when a jump shooter is about to release the ball. He's a cocky player, he is really confident, I think other guys see that and think, who does this guy this he is? But he can back it up with his game.

Anthony Johnson is just mad because Jose has more swag than he does.

Half the league does these things, and more often.
