i heard that also and as soon as i did i said no way that happens so i think it happens with dallas, but i agree the only thing that would hold me back would be the possibility of getting a young good pg in the summer, but kidd still has mileage in him, i think he could really compete this team as long as, as you said, we hold on to the valuable bench players. and i think that would be possible we would just have to dish out a few draft picks but if we get kid we dont really need the draft picks right now

the move would have to include something like:
Arroyo: 4mil
Garrity: 3.8mil
Dooling: 3.6mil
JJ: 2mil
Kebo: 2.7mil
that's 16mil. probs just enough to make the bare minimum.
meanwhile Dallas' offer of Diop + George is only 5mil. they need to include another 11mil of contracts. i imagine some more talent is gonna be required to make that deal work. maybe Stackhouse + Shawn Bradley's?
either way, that'd be a great team for us, but we'd be sitting at 70mil in contracts AT LEAST! i can't see management just casually tacking on another MLE sized contract considering it'd cost double with the luxury tax. but then again, if they're thinking big picture, if we added Childress or a PF in the offseason, and Kidd's contract expires at the end of 09, we'd be back under luxury tax and could just negotiate a friendlier contract with him.
i still think it'd make our team contenders though. would love to see it done.

nah, as great as the fantasy is, your totally right. shame.

JJ and Kebo are not expiring
and even though JJ is not a factor in the rotation, he's still in the rotation...so you give up 4 guys we do use, one guy we dont and you end up with 1 guy...and your left with Evans at the 2, and Evans alone...and the notion that Turkoglu is going to step in and answer prayers at the 2 spot is absurd, but say he did, are you going to start Cook now? because you're not starting Foyle and Dwight together, no way not how...unless something else is lined up, this deal makes no sense for Orlando...
give up depth, energy, what little defense we have on guards for a 35 year old player we might get lucky and get 2-3 seasons out of, no to mention we'll have 3 max deals, Jameer and we'll still be worrying about depth and a PF, and the MLE and VLE wont cover all our needs...
you have to ask yourself, do you want to be the Spurs or the Miami Heat?

mattyBoi wrote:One scenario would have Kidd returning to Dallas, where he started his career, and probably would include another team. The Nets, the source said, would get Devean George, DeSagana Diop and draft picks. Jerry Stackhouse may have to be added to make it work financially, but there likely is more involved.
People close to Rod Thorn said he's grown tired of Kidd, who didn't seem that broken up over the Nets' ninth consecutive loss Sunday night.
That is basically Dallas' garbage.
There definitely would have to be a third team involved (that has cap space) in the proposed trade above (as suggested). Because draft picks have no monetary value in a trade and the salaries of those players only total $11.26 million (including Stackhouse). Jason Kidd alone makes $19.73 million. Doesn't come close to 20% required trade gap, and both New Jersey and Dallas are over the cap.

If that's what Dallas is offering we can atleast match it and throw in some youth or picks.
after watching the hornets this week and how a great PG can affect a team, it is a no brainer to me...Kidd would make us so much more efficient offensively and Dwight would NEVER be ignored.
additionally we'd finally have a PG big enough to defend Chauncey Billups who murders us, especially when he backs down Jameer.
As for Jameer, this could actually work well for him, he becomes a six man type, and plays that Jason Terry/Eddie House type role where he's got the green light to be aggressive and lead our second unit.
Many teams will want him though, but remember Kidd was very complimentary of Dwight and the magic a few weeks ago so I do think he'd be happy here.
Also if we have to use Bogans as a filler from an NJ perspective it may be ok because its assumed they are eying the 2010 off season and he expires after next year.
But yeah we'd have to almost gut the roster, but doesn't Garrity have a trade kicker or something? t

aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

That's kinda the point, though. They would have to be offering more than that or have a third team involved somehow. And once you start involving a third team, things can get really complicated. Not saying it couldn't happen, but I am saying that it can't happen straight up with the three players named there.

Thief, I don't think we're giving up too much 'depth'. Yes we're losing a lot of players, but how many are really serviceable?
In a trade scenario, we're giving up Battie/JJ/Dooling/Arroyo/Garrity and maybe a pick?
Battie, I like but he is a non factor this year. This would be the piece I would be most hesitant to move. He's a solid PF/C and has that mid range game we're missing and his rebounding and hustle is something we, and every team could use.
JJ, a non factor. Many would like JJ to get more minutes however, he does not even crack the rotation most nights and is playing minimal minutes. I know he is not an expiring contract, but he is a nice young shooter who should get his playing time on a team that is rebuilding.
Dooling, a factor. He does play a lot of minutes for us, he is our best free throw shooter and seems to start sparks for us when we cannot seem to get it going. He has a slight long range game and can drive into the lane. However if we were to obtain Kidd all of this would pale into comparison to what Jason Kidd would bring to the team with his passing, leadership and his constant threat to drop a triple double.
Arroyo, lol.
Garrity, LOL.
3 are expiring and JJ's contract is not that bad.
