Is Phil wasting Farmar's talent?

Post#1 » by Dexmor » Mon Jan 28, 2008 7:56 pm

Jordan Farmar imo should be starting over Walton (not at sf) so I know he is wasting his talent there even though he plays 20 minutes it should be 36. Phil this season has wasted alot of players talent including Bynum by only giving him 28 minutes and not calling enough plays for him. He could have been averaging 20 instead of 13 and Fisher has taken 100 more shots then him.
Back to my point, I think he is doing the same thing with Farmar. At UCLA Farmar was a playmaker and a pg who could finish in the lane and he really hasn't been doing anything but shooting 3's. Now he is by far our best 3 point shooter even better then Kobe, Fisher, Radman, Sasha but I think he should have a bigger role then just shooting 3's. He should have more plays called for him and he should penetrate more and bring the ball up and either dish in the lane or score in the lane. The fact that he is in double figures 10 points in 20 minutes shows that he could easily be a 17 point a game scorer and when your second leading scorer and go to guy is a pass first player like Odom then we should let Odom play his pass first game and let Farmar be our second scoring option and playmaker and guy who brings the ball up and just let Kobe be a scorer and defender. It was o.k. when Phil had just Fisher and Smush and even Ron Harper but now Phil has a real pg and I don't think he has any idea how to use him.
If the Lakers get Jason Kidd (and there is a serious chance they will, they have got to be considered favorites even over Dallas with Harris becoming to much and us having Farmar and Critt) I even wonder then is Phil going to use Kidd as a pg or have him just shooting 3's and still have Kobe being the playmaker.

He has been the least inconsistent player out of our non-Kobe players(which isn't exactly saying much.) Considering that we lost by 3, who knows if starting him wouldn't have made a difference.

He doesn't have the luxary anymore of playing them sparingly because they are young. I think they defenately would have won with him playing. They need a second scorer and Odom to be the third and Farmar fits the bill until the big man comes back. I truely believe Farmar is tied with Odom as our third best player.

It seems to me that Farmar's talent has flourished under Phil this year. No one expected Farmar to be this good.

I can't see a good reason not to lock this.
