Where does Kidd go and does it matter to the Pistons?
It looks like Kidd is going to get moved before the deadline. I don't think it matters to the Pistons in terms of the Nets since they didn't seem like much of a threat anyway (hence, why they are trading Kidd).
It still could affect us - what if he goes to Cleveland? Orlando? Toronto? Chicago? Not sure how any of these trades would go down, but it would probably be best for us if he goes out West. Any thoughts?

Like you say it depends on where he goes and who they give up to get him because if he is able to go to Orlando and they can keep Lewis and Hedo that makes them formidable and a team that would present problems for the pistons. I dont see many other teams in the east that will be able to trade for him and keep a championship team on the floor. We will have to see where he goes and what the team will have left for him to work with but it could be a big problem if he goes to a contender for lesser talent.

Yeah, think they will want to move him out West if they can, but this is coming a year or two to late.
Cleveland could certainly use him, although they don't have much to offer. NJ certainly wouldn't want Hughes. Gooden and pieces (Gibson, Newble etc) isn't all that attractive.
Chicago needs a shakeup, but signing the older Ben was a huge mistake - hard to see them repeating that by giving away youth for an over the hill Kidd too. That could be just as disastrous to their future.
Orlando doesn't have the contracts to make it work unless they include Hedo or Shard, which again NJ has little use for with Vince & RJ.
Dallas maybe? They have the pieces to make a move if they wanted.
The Lakers maybe if NJ would settle for expirings, Crittenton, Farmar and picks?
Honestly, there just aren't that many takers out there. He's most valuable to a team looking to win NOW and most of them already have (younger) pg's or don't have the pieces to make it happen.

Jason Terry+Dasagana Diop+Devean George for Jason Kidd.
Dallas signs PJ Brown to fill the Diop's bigman void.
Dallas:
Kidd/Harris
Jones/Harris/Ager
Howard/Stackhouse/Hassell
Nowitzki/Bass
Dampier/Brown/Howard
New Jersey:
Terry/Williams
Carter/Wright
Jefferson/Nachbar
Williams/George/Allen
Boone/Diop/Collins
New Jersey gets capspace and clears a malcontent, Dallas makes a WCF run.

I actually thought about making a topic for this.
If I'm Dallas, I'd do everything I can to pull the trigger.
With the way San Antonio is playing(along with their pattened Championship hangover), the West is their for the taking.
Though, I would forget about P.J. Brown. From what I've read, it seems he has no interest at all in playing.

Do the Nets want a guy back that would be just good enough to not quite or barely make the playoffs or would they choose to rebuild? Would all expiring contracts plus picks get him out of Jersey?
30 mil in salary reduction in one fell swoop is nothing to sneeze at. That would put them at $29 mil in payroll plus picks next season making them a possible big time player in the FA market. If they go that route though then VC would probably be the next to go. He could bring back some younger talent and more free cap space plus a pick or two to boot.
If they free up enough $ they could make a run at Arenas and Brand while keeping RJ and the youngsters. Not a bad way to move into Brooklyn perhaps.

I don't envy New Jersey at all. If they were going to rebuild, the perfect opportunity was last year when they had the Lakers bidding high for Kidd and VC expiring. Now they will probably need to settle for a sub-par Kidd package and will need to beg someone to take VC off their hands; just ask Raps fans just how much VC loves rebuilding situations.
I don't see Kidd being traded east, so I don't have have any concern about that at all. I think Dallas and the LA Lakers are the most logical locations for him in the west. However, I do see Sacramento as a dark horse contender. They could make a trade involving Bibby and a young player, such as Hawes or Garcia, in order to partner Kidd up with Martin and Crazy Ron. Far-fetched? Maybe, but it could make Sac a bona fide playoff contender again.
However, if Kidd is moved, what happens with VC could affect us. Due to his contract and diminishing play, Thorn probably isn't going to be too picky about where dumps VC. If Pat Riley is still thinking championships and not rebuilding, he could offer the expiring contracts of J-Will and Davis along with a young player or two to get VC on the cheap. That way, Miami will have a "big 3" to combat Boston next season and also a pretty good draft pick. Just some hypotheticals to think about.

Kidd will be hard to trade. He makes 19.7mil this year, and 21mil next year. Most teams don't have 20mil in expiring contracts and when you start to add in other salaries, you start gutting your team.
Lakers
Seems like a good fit, and you start with Kwame's 9.1mil expiring deal. But where do you get the rest, and is it a deal that the Nets would take? Radmonovich is 5.6mil, has a horrible contract, and the Lakers would love to move him, but this isn't the type of trash that the Nets want. Walton is BYC, Fisher isn't getting traded, so Mihm and Ariza and Turiaf? Not a pretty package for Kidd.
Miami
They really have the best pieces if all the Nets want is cap space. Williams and Davis and a little filler gets it done. Too bad for them it's a little too late to make the playoffs, even in the East.
Boston
Just can't do it without moving one of the Big Three.
Cleveland
If the trade doesn't include Ilgauskas or Hughes, it isn't going to work. Maybe Hughes and Gooden? Good for Cleveland, but does that really help the Nets?

Nets should have never re-signed Carter last off-season and should have started to rebuild for A]The LBJ free-agent year and B]Their 2010 move to Brooklyn.
The thing is is that most if not all good teams/contenders already have good point guards (save Orlando). And as has been mentioned, his contract is huge, so any acquiring team would be giving up depth and a starter or two.
I would have jumped at the VC for JON trade even if JON was out for the season, however I don't think highly of VC at all.

Rip Hamilton is a stain on the Pistons franchise.

I'll predict Portland. They have a a big($$), short(one more year) contract in Raef Lafrentz and then a lot of youngsters that are not exactly in their core - Jarrett Jack could be included, James Jones, Channing Fyre, Sergio Rodriguez, Koppanen, Rudy Fernandez. And I believe they have some extra first rounders stashed as well.
Imagine Kidd with Roy, LMA, Oden(in a year) and Outlaw/Webster.
Something like Lafrentz, Channing Frye, Jarrett Jack and a first rounder or two.

^Nope.
Im actually a lot more down on Kidd than most people seem to. He's a great rebounding guard and passer, but he shoots only 37%. I wouldnt hate the 11 ppg if it were more efficient, but the triple double phenomena has hidden his decline nicely.
Any team trading for Kidd has to be a contending veteran team that doesnt already have an elite point guard, has offensive weapons to pass to, large but short contracts or cap space to deal in, and draft picks or young talent they are willing to part with.
Thats a lot of criteria and no team fits all of them IMO. The Nets will have to deal Kidd or accept an offer they wont be happy with.
And yes, the VC signing was reprehensible. They had enough time that they should have recognized a dead end situation when they saw one. I think theyre stuck with that one till its near expiring.

I think you just described the Lakers in a sense. Team that can give Kobe the ball, has good supporting cast with Odom and Bynum and has two young guards it could give up (Farmar and Chrittendon). A lineup of
Kidd/Kobe/Walton/Odom/Bynum competes in the west with anyone. Just dunno who LA would give up
*Edit: Odom, not Oden. Sorry Hunter....
