I can see K-mart praying by his bedside every night for Kidd to be traded to Denver

You do realize that Orlando leads the East in ppg? We don't play a slow down offense.

A lot of good points made.

I don't see Miami doing this... at least they'd be damn fools if they tried. Miami can't just "give up" and blatantly tank, but its over this year. If they got Kidd for absolutely nothing they'd still have to play balls out to just be in a position where they could make the playoffs. No Miami isn't gonna give up any assets for Jason.

Denver would be great too but not if the price tag is AI or the Camby-man. They get worse, Kidd might be a better fit than Iverson but he isn't a better player. I guess that leaves Dallas as the elite team that could use an upgrade at point guard and actually has some tradable assets, but Dallas is really good. Why do they want to mess with chemistry? Sure they could use a "leader" on the court but they don't need to be diluting their talent just for that.

This is a tough situation unless the Nets decide they'd like to take back expirings or Kidd decides that he's willing to go to a team that's not necessarilly a "contender".

Both, but the latter the most. See team USA this summer if you think he's overrated in that regard. He only was awarded USA basketball male athlete of the year for his efforts in that regard..

Of course he was. He was perfect for that team. They had plenty of scorers and perimeter defenders, so Kidd's weakness (shooting) and the thing he isn't quite as adept at (defense) will not be noticed. The players on that team are going to LOVE playing with Kidd because they know that he's a guy who is able to put the ball in the right spots and will absolutely not be a threat to take shots from them. He also seems like a nice guy off-court, albeit somewhat troubled in some aspects.

But if we're talking about a combination of the two former things you asked about, I don't see how Kidd ranks 1, 2 or even 3.

If Kidd is getting traded I would think it would be to a Western Conference team - leaving Cleveland & Orlando out of the mix. I would think New Jersey would want it that way.

That being said I would think that Portland could be a darkhorse with a trade such as this.

LaFrentz (ys expires next year)
Webster
Jack
2008 #1 (Top 3 protected)

for

Kidd

They get a young 2/3 in Webster with lots of upside to open up the possibility of NJ trading Vince. Webster would be a very good complement along side of Jefferson.
Jack can step into the point role and split time with Marcus.

Why Portland should do this?

Jack and Webster are good players but having Kidd run the offense for the Blazers may make them a force in the West (or one can argue an even bigger force).

And then think about next season when Kidd would be teamed up with Oden. That's sick.

That's a bit too much for a 34 year old with creaky knees who can't shoot.

I doubt LA, the Lakers any way. Unless the Nets are willing accept a package of Kwame and critt or something along those lines. I obviously wouldn't argue.

Knowing that, a deal that makes sense for two teams is Kidd to the Mavericks. To make the salaries match, the Mavs could offer Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, DeSagana Diop, Juwan Howard and Devean George. The latter three all have expiring contracts, which would clear about about $5 million off the Nets' books this summer, free them of paying Kidd $21-plus million next season and give them a pair of solid guards in Harris and Stackhouse. (Mark Cuban, however, doesn't see it this way. When I asked him via e-mail if the above proposal had any substance, he replied: "Step away from your crack dealer." I'm taking that as a no, he doesn't see that deal happening.)

NJ: Kidd, Krystic

Not if you consider how bad Wallace's contract is.

So now both Dallas and LA are said to be out of the Kidd talks. Oh and this is an interesting quote from LeBron from yesterday:

We all know Cleveland and LA would be good fits for him, but is there really anything on each team NJ wants? I don't think either team can give high enough draft picks/enough expiring contracts to make things work.

My end prediction is NJ will get 1 cents on the dollar, like most superstar trades.

Huge blockbuster in the works according to Yahoo! Sports:

Dallas Gets:
Jason Kidd
Malik Allen
Magloire
Cash
Draft Pick

New Jersey Gets:
Devean George
Jerry Stackhouse
Jarrett Jack
Travis Outlaw
Channing Frye

Portland Gets:
Devin Harris
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

Why include Portland at all? I think the Nets would only do it if they could get Harris and I Dallas won't do it if they have to give up Harris (rightfully so).

On another note, if Kidd perks up after being traded: more aggressive on offense and more focused on defense, how is he any better of a teamate than Carter? Isn't that why people hate Carter?

Portland would not pay that high a price.
