Agreed, but he'll cost at least 2x as much as those guys will.
We'll see who GS holds onto, but I wouldn't count any of those guys as having a 'high chance' of staying put: we just don't know what GS is thinking.

Is this accurate?
If Evans expires this off-season we're in a Darko-type situation where he'll count toward our cap, namely, needing the MLE to be resigned.

As long as we re-sign him as soon as we're allowed to, he will not count toward the MLE. He will count to the salary cap, but it's not like we'll be under the cap without him anyway. The issue with Darko last year was that if we had signed him, we wouldn't have the cap space to sign Lewis.

I think Corey is attainable, with all the big FA's available and hardly any team with any capspace i say there is a great shot to get him with the MLE. Also Childress, who i like because he is long and has long arms, which we need with our PG's being so little. Pietrus is also another option. An athlete which we need.

But, we also couldn't have signed him after signing Lewis and went over the cap because we didn't have his bird rights -- same situation like Evans.
We're over the cap even if we let him go, he'll have to get counted toward our cap, but we don't have his bird rights, so we need to give him (at least part) of the MLE.
Unless I'm mistaken. I used to follow the rules better, but have since forgotten them.

I think Orlando should go after a pg with the MLE. Use the money to get Chris Duhon away from Chicago. Then move Hedo to the SG sign back Evans and Dooling. Draft a center and get Fran over here. That would give Orlando a line up of:
Nelson/Duhon/Dooling
Hedo/Evans/Bogans/ Dooling
Lewis/Hedo/Evans/ Bogans
Battie/draft/Cook
Howard/Fran/Foyle/Battie
Not a bad lineup.

Any lineup with Battie starting and Nelson running the point is not that good.
I doubt Atlanta is loosing Childress for the MLE. Have to sign and trade 4 him and not sure if the Magic can offer much.

but he won't get any more than that. which makes him a steal!
i just hope we're the ones to steal him. the kid would be a perfect fit for our team.
Well, as richboy noted, we'll probably have to offer more than the MLE to get him from the Hawks. Why wouldn't they just keep him for the MLE if that's the highest offer he gets elsewhere?
Though, it is the Hawks, and if a team is likely to lose talent over relatively small amounts of money like the MLE it is the Hawks.

The Hawks have to pay Josh Smith this summer, are already paying JJ, need to extend Marvin Williams next year, and Horford the year after that. They can't really afford Childress. But they should sign Childress and then trade him when they can to get something back. Who knows what will happen.
In regards to Duhon, No thanks!. I was at Duke for the four years that he was there and he is not a quality player. He has no upside and not much value as an asset later on. Also, he did not perform that great when he started for the Bulls when Hinrich was hurt.

They don't have to pay Childress. He is restricted. Could easily end up taking QO for unrestricted FA the following year. The only way I see them letting Josh leave is if they make a run at a big name free agent. Kind of like we did with Darko.

You cant just add the MLE to your other salary cap and top someone elses offer.
Josh Smith is gunna want BIG bucks...MAX big.
It may be their MLE vs. ours, and thats if they can even afford him.
And we offer something that they cant and thats a starting job.
Childress is getting to good to be wasting away on the bench for the next 5 years.

Lets just put Arenas at the two and sign him to the MLE this summer, he'll obviously want to play next to Dwight and we can just pay him the rest of his salary under the table. Voila.
I hear ya. I've been saying the same thing.
One thing about Arenas and Golden State, though. They wanted to keep him. But he was a second-round draft pick and had only played there two years. There were different rules for the second-round picks then and they could not offer more than the MLE because they didn't have the cap room. Washington offered more. Voila. The NBA recognized this wasn't really fair and they have changed that rule for guys that are your draft pick. If that situation came up now, they could have re-signed Gilbert if he had wanted to stay.
