... would you risk having our cap space locked up for two weeks by going after a RFA (Okafor, Smith, Deng, Gordon)???OKAFOR YES AND MAYBE SMITH...NOT AS CRAZY ABOUT DENG AND GORDON
... would you sign Gilbert Arenas away from the Wiz??? NO...TOO MANY INJURIES AND TOO MUCH TEAM SUCCESS WITHOUT HIM THE PAST TWO SEASONS.
.... would you keep our draft pick if it ends up somewhere between 8-14 or would you try to trade it?? DEPENDS ON WHAT THE RETURN IS AND WHO IS AVAILABLE. I THINK YOU COULD STILL GET VALUE DRAFTING IN THAT RANGE (IE LOPEZ, THABEET, BATUM)
... would you keep Andre Miller around for another year??? AGAIN, DEPENDS ON WHAT THE OPTIONS ARE. PLAYING WITH FA'S GIVES YOU NO GUARUNTEE, SO YOU WOULD WANT TO GET BACK A NICE YOUNG PIECE ALONG WITH EXPIRINGS/PICKS IN RETURN. THE KIDD/LAL DEAL POSTED ELSEWHERE IS INTERESTING IF PHILLY CAN BE INVOLVED AND GET BACK CRITTENTON.
... would you give Andre Iguodala 5 years/$55 MIL??
YES
... would you trade both our cap space and our pick if it meant obtaining someone like Stoudemire or Gasol?? YES TO STOUDEMIRE REGARDLESS, YES TO GASOL IF IT MAKES SENSE
Since we putting out hypotheticals, say somehow they get Okafor, trade Miller and get back Crittenton, re-sign AI and LW, and draft Lopez. Lineup next season looks something like this...
PG: Crittenton/vet FA or Williams
SG: Iguodala/Green/Williams
SF: Thad/Carney
PF: Okafor/Smith/Evans/Hill
C: Sam/Lopez/Booth
Not perfect, and you'd have some growing pains with such young PGs (need to get a backup veteran PG...maybe keep Ollie?) but the talent level is significantly improved moving forward.
