Ok, last I read Kidd didnt talk about a trade
and it was coming from his agent and news
paper writers. So if Kidd now says he knows
it might not be to a title team then its new.. .
:P

I still dont see how the Blazers can get Kidd
from NJ, unless NJ just wants contracts.. .
Because im sure they can get a little better
then what the Blazers would offer player wise.
Maybe not a lot better, but just enough.. .

I for one would love Kidd on the Blazers.

Jack would have to be in the deal, I think
Blake should be kept because he took less
money to come join the Blazers, yea the
NBA is a business but with that and Blake
doing pretty good this year I think it beats
Jack out a bit, Jack can be a good player tho.

Collins
Kidd

for

Jack
Webster
Miles
LaFrentz
1st round & 2nd round pick 2008 (1st round #3 & up protected)

If I make no sense, I blame the cold meds.

Ya, about a day or so after the initial report, Kidd admitted to ESPN that he and his agent have talked to the Nets about moving him.

I'm not going to go into great detail about this again, but seriously, look around the league at what teams can/are (reportedly) offering. It's nothing that spectacular. The Blazers can without a doubt offer a very competitive package for him.

The young talent the Lakers are offering consist of Jordan Farmar and/or Jarvis Crittention. Clearly the Blazers have much better young talent to offer the Nets than those two. And unless the Lakers are willing to part with Odom in a deal for Kidd, the Nets would have to take on Vlad Radmonivic contract to make salaries match with Kwame's expiring contract.

The results are the same for almost every other team interested in Kidd. And of two teams who were supposedly in the hunt for Kidd out West, 2 of them (Denver and Dallas) are already reportedly saying they aren't interested. When you take into account that the Nets reportedly don't want to keep Kidd in the East, that makes the field of interested teams dwindle even further.

The Heat deal was interesting, over on the Nets board.

If they are willing to send out both their expirings, Cook and a future pick, the Nets need to jump on that. That would trump pretty much any offer any other team could put together.

However, the Heat won't offer a package that good. For one, Kidd won't want to goto the Heat since they are FAR from being a contender. Even next year, they'll still likely struggle as the supporting cast won't be good enough to do anything.

And as for the Heat, all getting Kidd does for them is hurt their chances in the Lottery this summer. Kidd is just a bad fit for the Heat right now, their season is just too far gone.

I'm looking through the thread you were mentioning, and almost every offer in there has the other team vastly overpaying for Kidd. And surprisingly enough, a lot of the offers are coming from fans of the overpaying team, not the Nets fans.

I know, I couldn't believe that a Spurs fan would actually suggest that. What a terrible idea for the Spurs. Maybe they're just that desperate to stop losing?

Why isn't Kidd's character being discussed? Is character a non-factor now that the Blazers are winning?

:nonono:

Kidd the basketball player would be fun to watch, but Kidd the person doesn't sound like the right mentor for the young Blazers to follow. He has way too many wife beating scrapes with the law...

I think the team looks great the way it is. I'd like to see what they look like next year without any trades...

We can't continue to be ultra-paranoid about character issues anymore. Granted, it's still something you to seriously take into account, but the team has more than moved on from their "JailBlazer" past. Before the season started, Pritchard himself (when comparing the Blazers to the Patriots) acknowledged that at some point, team will be able to take a chance on a guy with a less-than-stellar past. We're without a doubt, at that point. And while Kidd hasn't always been a model citizen off the court in the past, he's never caused problems in the lockerroom.

Plus, whether we like it or not, All-Stars/HOF players get treated differently than regular rotation guys like Randolph and Miles don't get that kind of slack... Especially when the team is losing.

Mr. Odd posted this, which looks to be a common base for some kind of a deal:

Collins
Kidd

for

Jack
Webster
Miles
LaFrentz
1st round & 2nd round pick 2008 (1st round #3 & up protected)

This would leave the Blazers with:

PG: J Kidd/Blake/Sergio/Green
SG: Roy/Rudy Fernandez/Blake/James Jones
SF: Outlaw/James Jones
PF: LMA/Frye/McRoberts
C: Greg Oden/Joel/Frye/Collins

My initial reaction to this deal is that the Blazers are selling Jack/Webster/1st round pick for cap space. But without including Miles, I don't see a lot of value in pursuing this deal. The Blazers have to fill in some depth after this deal, and they only have 2nd round picks to do it.

Ehh, I don't know. Like I said, only if they include Miles.

I think of a quote I heard once when it comes to Kidd's attitude. Although it's not verbatim it basically goes.

"Having one jackass on your team isn't necessarily bad, you just want to be careful and not have more than one as then they have a tendency to breed."

Kidd's character is certainly questionable, and Portland should be and no doubt is cognizant of that. But I think the risk is well worth the potential gain. Kidd can teach these guys a lot of good things about basketball and will certainly help them in the win/loss column. This year Portland would get their first taste of playoff action. After that they should be able to parlay that into a solid run in the playoffs.

Blake to me would make a great backup, and this may also open up some room for Sergio assuming Blake gets time at the backup 2 (and Jack is dealt). I think if Portland really has an opportunity to get Kidd it's well worth it to look into it.
