i think we have the best chance at landing Kidd. He says he wants to go to a contending team rite? so lets take a look at the contending teams..

Boston - cant happen
Detroit - cant happen
Orlando - Maybe
Cleavland - does not have enough pieces
Dallas - Wont happen b/c they'd have to include Dampier and i doubt the nets want a big contract unloaded on them
PHX - Already have Nash
Spurs - Parker
Lakers- Yes
Denver - Yes

Only teams i see landing kidd are Orlando, Lakers, or Denver. I think we can offer them the best package with kwames big expiring.

After Kidd's contract runs out he wants an extension for about 13 mill a season.

With Bynum's extension coming up very soon...I really don't see Buss willing to pay Kidd.

However, maybe he'd be willing to pay Kidd if we get rid of Odom.

Odom + Kwame + Farmar + Radman ....no picks

And the Nets send back Collins and Kidd.

DOes this work in the trade chcker?

^I'm not sure Cuban would give up Harris, it would go against his track history. True, in retrospect, he might regret letting Nash go, but Kidd at this point in his career is much older and makes a lot more money than Nash when he signed with the Suns. I wouldn't rule it out, but it'd be surprising.

I'll do that minus Farmar tho.

No Odom + Farmar.

I thought you were one of the people who said that Mike?

Anyway, it is an interesting point.

I wonder how much Buss is willing to pay now for a championship level team?

Especially if we were playing showtime style basketball.

I don't think Cuban's going to give up Harris either.

I wouldn't ever pretend to know the mind of Mark Cuban, but Harris is a rising star that's really come into his own this year.

Not to mention he's a home-grown product which means something to Cuban.

Without Harris, I really don't see the Dallas package being all that attractive unless the Nets are going for a straight salary dump.

That lineup out there at the end of the game is why I don't want to trade Farmar.

PG Farmar (8 Assists, led the fastbreak)
SG Sasha
SF Bryant

He also provides a scoring option for Kobe to pass to. They're developing some nice chemistry together.

We could watch that backcourt for another 5-7 years get better and better.

If Phil Jackson is willing to give Farmar and Turiaf more minutes, and they keep coming through and continue to develop, it would indeed be really difficult to deal Jordan.

Yet, if we continue to bring Farmar off the bench and marginalize his role, I think it's hard to justify not dealing him for Kidd. If we're not going to allow him to make a larger impact, then might as well get a player Phil respects enough. Kidd, over 35 minutes per game, will impact our team much more than the 20 minutes Farmar's getting.

Perhaps before trading Farmar, we should audition him as our starting point guard. Maybe that's our answer to a more effective offense.

I agree with you J-Rob, we should start Farmar and Vujacic, but also Turiaf.

I want to see our best lineup on the floor for the majority of the minutes. Maybe that's all that's needed to start winning again.

I think it's hard to argue that Farmar, Sasha, Kobe, Odom, and Turiaf is our best five against most lineups. Perhaps starting would help their consistency, which is exactly what our team needs.

Just keep the same team. Why be in a rush to make trades. This is a championship caliber team with Bynum and Ariza added to the mix.

I think we matchup worse with teams like Phoenix and Dallas if we include Lamar for Kidd. We need Lamar for Dirk and Marion

Plus our PG play is just fine and both Fisher and Farmar can spot up and knock down wide open 3's. If you watch the Nets, there weakness is when Carter and Jefferson get double teamed. Kidd can't shoot

In the 4th quarter the ball is going to be in Kobe's hands anyway. We need guards who can spot up and drill the 3 when he attacks and kicks.

Actually Lamar got killed by Dirk - 4 points, 2 rebounds?

But that's irrelevant, NJ would primarily want Farmar, and there's little chance the Lakers would throw Odom into the deal as well.

As it stands, no, we're not a better team with Farmar than Kidd. It's only if Farmar's role expands and he develops further.

Our PG play is not just fine, offensively, they generally look for their own shots first instead of making plays. Defensively, both Farmar and Fish are a bit small, and there are times when they are both gravely outmatched.

In terms of the Nets' problems, that's their problems. Not ours. Kidd is not a good shooter, no. He's never been, even when he got the MVP, even when he got his team to the Finals. But he's a playmaker. When you have both Kobe and Bynum on the same team, Kidd doesn't need to be a shooter. He'll just do what he has for his career, get quality shots for his teammates.

True Lamar got killed by Dirk, but over the last 3 years he has given him a lot of problems. It would be similair to when we had Gary Payton

Kobe gets double teamed and kicks out to Kidd - Brick

Teams will stack in there defense and dare him to shoot like they do with Vince and Jefferson. Being a all time great doesnt mean your a better fit for a team then a non All Star.

Derek Fisher was never a All Star, but he fit playing with Kobe and Shaq better then Payton because he could simply spot up and drill the 3. You need that in close games in the 4th quarter.

really? Thats what you think would happen?

Kidd would make Kobe, Fisher, Bynum and Ronny's life All-Starish. The diference is NJ doesnt have a BIG. Having a Big with a Kobe .....

Derek Fisher was never a All Star, but he fit playing with Kobe and Shaq better then Payton because he could simply spot up and drill the 3. You need that in close games in the 4th quarter.

wait are you comparing Payton to Kidd?

Turiaf is not a full time PF. He's a energy guy off the bench similair to Cliff Levington of the Bulls in 1991. He gives up a lot of 2nd chance rebounds. He hustles though. But i prefer him as that energy guy off the bench. I like LO and Bynum as a rebounding tandem.

4th quarter the ball in going to be in Kobe's hands and against quality teams, they will simply pack in the defense. I like Sasha in the game with Farmar ( or Fisher) with Kobe at the 3 and LO and Bynum up front in the 4th quarter.

4th quarter the ball is in Kobe's hands and you got two guards who can spot up and shoot. Be realistic 4th quarter Kidd will not be handling the ball. We need the ball in Kobe's hands to draw in the defense. Kidd doesnt draw double teams in halfcourt sets.

First of all, Odom never held Dirk to 4 points and 2 rebounds. Never. If anything, we're better off putting Ariza on Dirk, like Golden State put Barnes on Dirk. Dirk has trouble with long quick guard-forwards, and this goes back to Tracy McGrady's defense on Dirk a few years ago.

Second, I can play fantasy basketball too. Kobe gets double-teamed, kicks it out to Kidd, who alley-oops to Bynum - DUNK! Or pass back to Kobe for THREE! Wanna play this game all night?

It's simple, Derek Fisher was always an inadequate point guard for us, even when we were winning championships. He was mostly a backup, and there's a good reason why we went and got Gary Payton. Better defender, better playmaker.

Again, whatever weakness Kidd has in his perimeter shooting, he more than makes up for his ability to create easy opportunities for his teammates. Also, Kidd doesn't take many perimeter shots, and his low field goal percentage is due to his taking three-pointers, which he doesn't make at a league-leading clip, but his perimeter efg% is .440. Tony Parker's is .406. Hinrich is at .429. Baron Davis is also at .429.

Bottom line? Jason Kidd's shooting isn't all that bad for a point guard. His percentage looks bad because he doesn't drive a lot, that's not his game. He's a floor general, and that's the genius of Jason Kidd.

I couldn't agree more. That lineup basically played the last 6 minutes of the game tonight and really turned an average performance into a good win.
