DeAndre Jordan
Can someone please tell me why this guy is still being projected to be a top five pick. I understand that he is a big and Andrew Bynum comparisons are plenty, but look at his stats the past two weeks. He has broke double digits once the past six games, with 14 against Colorado. I mean, last six games he has paltry averages:
6.5pts/5.7rb/.5ast/1blk/1.8TO in 23 minutes a game.
He has loads of talent, but if he stays one more year, he will be in the league longer. Right now he will go top 10-15 and some team will not hire a big man coach for him and he will not perform in the league. Right now, I would take Brook Lopez, Darrell Arthur, and Roy Hibbert before Jordan.

I think he's hurt.
He crumpled during the Texas Tech game in a bizarre manner (looked like a groin pull) and was out for a bit, then was moved to the bench and hasn't played the same since.
Thanks. I thought there had to be an explanation for his dramatic drop in production.

When I watched him play he didn't get the ball. He's 7 foot, athletic, has a great motor and isn't one of those bigs from a foreign country that just started playing basketball 2 seasons ago. Bigs develop later. He looks like he will be a very good big in his mid 20's if handled correctly. He could reach that level much earlier if he is willing to put in the work.

Deandre Jordan is NOT hurt. Simple fact is, right now he's just not that good. He was a starter at the beggining of the season but his play on the court cost him his job to sophmore Bryan Davis- who has been playing much much better than Jordan Has.
Deandre is now coming off the bench for A&M. Is a bench guy, the 7th man really considered a top 5 pick based soley on potential? I dont think so, but Im no scout. IMO- Hes got a lot of bust potential if he comes out this year

Oh...so you know for a fact that he isn't hurt?
Interesting, how'd you come to that conclusion?
He's coming off the bench because he's playing worse and whether that's because of an injury or because he hasn't adjusted to the double teams he's seeing now is uncertain, but you don't walk into college from HS and hit 17 straight shots without a certain amount of skill.

Yes I know for a fact that hes not hurt. I have seen EVERY A&M game of the year, read The Batt religiously and visit Texas A&M forums because I am a diehard Aggie fan.
Jordan is not hurt, hes coming off the bench because Bryan Davis is outplaying him. Bottom Line. Davis has been bringing something that DJ doesnt have and thats all out hustle, defense and intensity. Ask any Aggie Fan, DJ is not as good as advertised- not yet anyone.

Im not saying he is or isnt hurt, but he watching him play this season, he definately has alot of room for improvement. Right now he is all atheltic ability.

He did, and if the guy above has truly watched every game, he would have seen Jordan go down awkwardly, then sit during the middle of a very important game before returning and having ineffective minutes.
Then IMMEDIATELY moving to the bench for the next games.
I suppose that could be coincidence and maybe the coach decided that because he had one bad game and they were like 16 and 2, that the team really needed a shake-up.
But i doubt it.

I don't know, he's really not even THAT athletic. No plodder and definitely among the more mobile 7 footers but he's not an "athletic freak" which is kinda what he'd have to be IMHO to be a top 5 pick at this point. He'd be best served (for himself) if he went back to school for at least another season (barring of course a complete blowout come tournament time).

Actually I take back my comment about him not being that great an athlete after watching their last game. Did you see the way he ran the floor and threw it down on that one play?

He may not be as athletic as a Howard/Amare but let's not forget he is a 7 footer. And for a 7 footer he's pretty darn athletic and not exactly as scrawny as most 7 footers. He's certainly got some room to fill out that frame. If he puts on 30+ pounds like Dwight Howard did then look out.
This kid could be the real deal. He's certainly got enough upside to warrant a top 5 pick.
Oh and if he continues to show us plays like this, I might have to change my mind about him not being on the level of a Dwight Howard athletically.

I wouldn't be suprised if he did go top 5 but IMHO whichever team takes him is taking the biggest risk of the draft. Jordan has IMHO the biggest bust factor of any of the players that have been bandied about as lottery picks. Now he also has a lot of upside, more than many of the same guys but I would have to be a very brave GM to take him top 5 if everyone of the guys that could declare does.
To which, I don't know that many of the lottery teams (who have pretty much been perennial lottery teams) can really take a chance on him. Most of the GM's for the likely lottery teams are already on a short leesh (or at least should be). They really can't afford to take a guy that might become something 2, 3 or even 4 years from now cause they likely won't be around for it to come to fruition.
Sure there have been cases where raw young 7 footers have turned out to be stars and even superstars but those guys have had obviously none physical traits (i.e. intensity, how they play, the fire, the intelligence, the look in their eyes) that made them, even back then, somebody that you can say, you know what, give this kid some time to learn the ropes and work on his skills and he may turn into something special. Of the games T A&M games I've seen Jordan doesn't have that fire. Doesn't mean he can't become a special player or even a top notch player but I personally don't have a great feel for him.
If I was the GM of a perennial lottery team I think you have to take the guys that have shown that they can at least play at the college level (the Beasleys, the Gordons, etc).
Now a team like Phoenix, who may end up with a mid-late lottery pick via Atlanta(?) I believe, could be in a position to take a chance on Jordan if they feel that no one else around is really going to crack their lineup.
But for the Timberwolves, the Heat, the Sonics the Knicks, the Clippers I just can't see them taking Jordan and being able to risk it for varying reasons all tied with their need to really get someone that can help turn things around sooner than later (and with Jordan it's possible MUCH later).
