OT: Games around the league/standings discussion

Post#1 » by LoveThemCavs » Tue Jan 29, 2008 11:58 pm

We had a thread last year for this, it lasted the remainder of the season. There is no Cavs game tonight, so I'm going to be paying attention to the Washington-Toronto game. A little early to be standings watching, but those two are right now our competition(along with Orlando) for home court in the first round. Not really that many good games on tonight. Amazingly, all these crappy teams in the East can still get the 7th or 8th spot if one goes on a run. The team of that bunch I'm hoping to make it though is Atlanta. I think they'd be a fun team to watch play the Pistons or Celtics in a series. I only put the standings up to compare later in the season. It happens every year with people scoreboard watching. Always enjoy other Cavs fans opinions, just not a big fan of the general board I guess.

Crazy game going on in Washington. Toronto just made 2 three pointers in 1.9 seconds to send the game to OT. Washington had this game won, we'll see if they pull it off still. The Pistons won again, Indiana atleast put up somewhat of a fight tonight.

If we catch Orlando we get the #3 seed in the East, right?

it's not too early for standings watching and the team to watch is Detroit. We have 3 head to head games left and are just 6 games back in the loss column.

The short term goal is to cut that to 5 or less before the all star break.

Toronto is up by 20 on the Wizards at halftime. I suppose that is a good thing at this point.

Nope. I do not think that is a good thing. Who would you guys take in the Playoffs Wizards or Raptors

Most definately I'd rather play the Wizards. The Cavs have beaten them the past two years in the playoffs. With or without Arenas I'd choose that matchup over Toronto. Make no mistake I do not fear the Raptors. But they'd present a bigger challenge than Washington. Home court looms large IMO. We're just not that good on the road.

We won't have to play either of them, we're going to be the #2 seed. Right now the goal is to get separation from the wizards/raptors, pull ahead of the magic and close the gap with Detroit.

And while they appear to be well out of reach, any time boston loses is a plus as well.

Lakers-Pistons game looks like its going to come down to the wire. Lakers up by 1 midway through the fourth. Kobe workin on the triple doulbe 32 pts, 9 reb and 10 turnovers(5 assists). Celtics are up by 1 on Dallas too. Two very good games.

Lakers had a 2 point lead with 16 seconds to go, Turiaf misses a key FT and the Pistons win on a 3 pointer. Dagnabbit.

2/3/08 Standings
1. * Boston --
2. * Detroit 4.0
3. * Orlando 7.5
4. Cleveland 11.0
5. Toronto 12.0
6. Washington 12.5
7. Atlanta 16.5

9. Indiana 19.0
10. Chicago 19.0
11. Philadelphia 19.5
12. Milwaukee 20.0
13. Charlotte 20.0
14. New York 23.5
15. Miami 27.5

A couple of big games today. The Lakers are currently beating down the Wiz and later on the Mavs and Pistons play on ABC. That one could have some fireworks after Sheed said the Mavs have no good big men.

Oh and to any of you watching the Lakers/Wiz game on NBAtv, the quality of the Wiz broadcast is absolutely LIGHTYEARS better than ours. Its ridiculous to me. Kind of refreshing to watch a quality broadcast from a non-national channel. Gives me some hope still for the Cavs.

Still waiting to see this supposed new tough Wizars D. At the rate they are playing they might not even make the playoffs if some other teams get even mildly lukewarm.

The Wizards defense is definately not improved like those Wiz fans were trying to sell us a few games back. Arenas will be back in a month(atleast thats what I've heard). The Wiz are in a funk right now and still playing better than anyone behind them. Only Philly has put up an equal record(4-6) in the past ten games of the teams trailing Washington. They have a tough schedule for the rest of the month though, so I could see them slipping back from us and Toronto. I don't think they'll miss the playoffs though.

Tonights games
Dallas @ Orlando
Philadelphia @ Atlanta
LA Clippers @ New York
Toronto @ Miami
Houston @ Minnesota
Charlotte @ Phoenix
New Orleans @ Utah
Denver @ Portland
Chicago @ Seattle

Some great games out west tonight. I wish I could watch Deron Williams and Chris Paul go at it. That should be a fun game along with Denver and Portland. The games that concern us are obviously Toronto-Miami and Dallas-Orlando. Hopefully, DWade and the boys can help us out. Go Mavs.

Orlando lost, so we really need this win against Boston to make up some ground. A win there would offset the horrid Seattle loss as well.

Miami is getting wiped out by 30+ btw, they are truly horrible this year. Even if they draft Beasley, they're so bad it might not be enough to significantly improve
