Who actually plays Hoops Here?

Post#1 » by Philly Family » Wed Jan 30, 2008 10:20 pm

Saw this on another board and thought it was some interesting posts...so if you would Please follow along...

I don't know anybody else that posts on the board. I was curious to see if poeple here actually play basketball. Sometimes it gives insight to your opinoins and such. So, whether you just shoot hoops with your kids, or you play competively, follow my example if you would like.

Height

6'5" 210 36yrs
play inside or out depending on match-ups
played 4 years of High school and 2 years small college Div 3
can play with back to the basket or facing up, range out to 3 point line but love to pass and hit the open man, no problem going complete game without shooting but making extra pass to open man...good help side defender who blocks shots and rebounds very well...only play rec leagues and pick-up basketball at local church on weekly basis

I played 4 years high school as a SG but am now a 6'2", 29 year old PF who is a bruiser inside but still can step outside for the longball if needed.

Oh yeah... a key part to my game these days is my ability to get easily winded after about 5 possessions. :-)

6'4", 190 Was too thin back in high school (175), but playered varsity 1 yr, JV 3 yrs on a pretty bad HS team. I was a PF without any power.

Played IM's at a small college, good but not great. Could dunk on the break and finish well for a while until I lost my jumping ability (Knee surgery and laziness.) Was a pest on defense- sort of a Camby like game. Lots of blocks, rebounds and garbage points.

Now 35, play well in open rec/church pick-up, and lousy in a competative rec league. Have really deep (26 ft) streaky range, but have lost any semblance of a left, and can't finish well anymore inside now that I can't get near the rim. I didn't know how unskilled and over reliant I was on my athletic ability until I got "old." The game is so much easier inside when you can get near the rim (not dunks, just easy finishes.)

Height: 6'1"
Weight: 195 lbs
Age: 26
Position - PG
Level of play - played 4 years of high school ball. Played pickup through college, and play occasionally now.
Style of play - definitely pass first. average athlete with inconsistent outside shot (had college 3 range, but very streaky). Handles used to be good, but now sometimes shaky.

Height - 5'11
Weight - 160
Age - 28
Position - SF
Level of play - Junior Varsity -- stopped after sophomore year of HS
Style of play - Defensively I am average to slightly above average... Offensively my range extends to the better part of 2'.... I'm a good passer though, and I have a good first step... Watch out for my baby-hook 1.5' from the basket...
Anything else that is relevant - I'm actually pretty athletic (was captain of football and lacrosse teams in HS), but I never enjoyed playing organized b-ball. Love to play pickup though.

age:33
Height 5' 10"
Weight 225
Position PG or SF depending on the handles of my team.
Highest Level of play: HS Varsity
i havent played in two years competitively. i had good handles(L/R), strength, hops and size(horizontal). I kinda play like like Charles but six inches shorter. In fact i wanted to be hm in high school. I was the highest rebounder and second scorer by emulating him.

My pop was a coach for a high school outside Philly( I went to different school). He was a decendant of Bobby Knights coaching tree so fundamentals including dribbling, driving to the hoop on both sides and shooting with both hands was always easy for me. Good outside shot.

I played almost everyday through my 20's. however, My knees made me give it up unfortunately. Both ACLs were torn while playing and I just had surgery recently to fix some related issues with the knee. I am now a knee expert with 2 surgies on each

So i substitute my desire to play with my desire to watch and talk about it more and more. having this forum and you guys as peers has helped me get through this time where i had to give up my favorite sport. So thanks. Still can play one on one, 21 or 3v 3, but full court is out of the question.

I save my knees now for moutainbiking, snowboarding and coaching soccer.

Height: 6'2"
Weight: 185
Age: 25
Position: SF
Experience: No Highschool experience bc I played soccer, baseball, and track. Played at intramural ball in college; Basketball wise, I hustle and play D. Can block shots. Good passer but dont have much offense, although I can go off from outside. At one point I could dunk but it would be a bad idea to try it now.

Age: 24
Height: 5'11
Weight: 185lbs
Position: SF
Level: Played all throughout high school, played sporadic pick ups in college, and have played in a men's league for the past 2 years. I can knock down anything inside 18ft pretty consistently... anything beyond that range would be considered a bad attempt. Rebounding is the staple of my game... Being a little undersized, I'll usually surprise people on the offensive glass at least a couple times per game. I can D up a little, but I have a weak handle and limited court vision.

Age: 47
Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 182 (damn)
Position: SG
Level: Was on an intramural championship team in college, but when I am 80 years old and my sons ask me if I have any regrets in my life, I will say that I bagged out of basketball tryouts my junior year in college because I was gonna be the 4th/5th guard and wasn't gonna get any run (6-hour bus trips to Plattsburg didn't sound too appealing)...even if it was Div III, I would have been able to say that I played college ball.

I still play with some guys in Lower Merion every week (although I am currently on the DL with a rotator cuff tear that is getting 'scoped in about 3 weeks).

My game? My jumper.

When I walk into the gym, I'm in range...

Set Shot?

Only half joking. I remember about 15 years ago playing with a real old timer who used the set shot. Man, he would hit shots consistently from anywhere inside 30 feet if left open.

6-3
200 lbs.

SG-Just shoot the ball whenever I get the chance. Even if it's a crappy shot.

Play in the NBA (76ers) currently and am known to be the best player on the squad. I played at Detroit Mercy in college.

Like I said earlier, if the shots there I take it. I usually have coaches, fans, and other players yelling at me and telling me to pass the ball but it's not as easy as it sounds for me. You wouldn't pass if you had my kind of shot either.

I've talked to coaches around the league and the majority (90-95%) of them say they will vote me in the all star game. See you in New Orleans!

150 lbs
Played a little in high school. Mostly recreationally.
Energy guy, can hit a three. Told I shoot like Vince Carter. Nowadays, just as lazy as him too.

... and sixers238, you are not Willie Green ;)

I've been working on incorporating "the best pump fake in the NBA" into my low post game. I'll keep you updated, but so far not so good.

The times it works my defender reaches out and cracks me across the face. Just not worth it.

Anything you guys are trying to work into your game?

I have already mastered the Willie Green pull up brick shot and the Sammy fade away 19 ft low percentage jumper. I even shoot FT's better than Evans and have a better release on my jumper than Smith. I am working on my Carney like court vision.

I've been working on this left handed stutter step pull back move(not quite like Iguodala's step back),

5'7
180 Play PG
I constantly get called the Professor or Jason Williams for my handle and driving ability. Average shot. I get told my jumper is exactly like Shawn Marions. I play tight D and am a hustle player on D and get more rebounds then someone my height ever should. I play very aggressively on D and O. If im guarding you I will leave you sore. Very fast for my weight. Play at the gym and in rec leagues.
Andre Miller is a bad 3pt shooter.

He can't be. Green has shut everybody up. Or atlease should have. I am sure there are those who refuse to see the truth.

I thought he was talking about LouWill until I saw the weight.
