The Kings are believed to have had recent discussions with Denver regarding Artest, and could possibly be pursuing forward Nene Hilario. While Artest will make $7.4 million this season, the trade would work as it falls within the league rules of contracts coming within 20 percent of one another as Nene

I would do it if we got more back in the deal. Like a draft pick or dumped Kenny. I mean Nene hasn't been real healthy, but when he has he's been a good post defender(did better on Duncan last year than anyone else) and he's shown signs of brilliance as far as a post game. With 30 MPG he'd be a decent shotblocker. If he can get over his cancer(and I hope he can, I've been a fan for a while) he could be a really good PF for us, also allowing us to either go BPA in the draft instead of looking for a PF if we re-sign Beno. He'll only be 26 next year. At this point I just want Ron gone, time to get on with the rebuild. Let the rebuilding commence Petrie!

^I think more than anything Petrie just wants to get VALUE for Artest. I think his worst fear is that Artest walks for nothing. Nene would be a huge investment though, IIRC about $10 mill a year for the next 5 years? I'd atleast want to see him return and show he can still play at a high level before investing that much into him.

From all that I've seen and heard (which is a decent amount), Nene's been a good defender. Like a solid rebounder. Above-average offensively, has multiple skills.
A good example of Nene's game, and what he can be is the playoffs last year against the Spurs. One of the top Duncan defenders, for sure. Didn't play as much in the 2005 Spurs series, having a lesser role, but had several moments in that series, too.
Not too many guys are "great" rebounders and defenders.
I'd be surprised if we do this though, just because of Nene's situation now and for the next bunch of months. As well as his contract and historical injury issues.
Ron would make Denver better, but still doesn't make them a legit title contender. They'd still have some issues and questions that is holding them back from that level.

Well the biggest issue in denver right now is perimiter defense, which Artest would obviously address. Ron can also shoot the 3 (albeit he thinks he can do it better than he really can) at a good enough clip to help the Nuggets.

You bring up some great points. I know last year Nene had a great season tell he got hurt or at least I think thats what I remember. If he can come back from the cancer and play like that then his contract is pretty good value wise especially at his age. So this is something I would love to look into doing. Also I agree maybe moving KT with Artest or getting a 1st round pick would make me feel much easier about doing the move.BMiller52 wrote:I would do it if we got more back in the deal. True but if u look at Denver's roster there is nothing else realistic IMO. They're not trading AI/Melo/Camby, Kings wouldn't take on Kenyon Martin, so that leaves Nene.

I can't see Denver taking on Artest...that would leave them with three players who need the ball almost everytime down the court. Even in our current offense, it seems like alot of the ball "movement" goes through Ron (or at least Ron wants it to go through him). I can't imagine AI/Artest/Melo.....it would be like Portland 2000 all over again.

Nene isn't the answer to anything the Kings need, best case scenario is that he'd be a lateral move, and that's best case.
More likely scenario would be that he would be a cap anchor that we don't need heading into a rebuilding mode.
Also, what would Denver need with Artest when they've got Melo playing the SF spot?

We'd HAVE to move KT, or else we would have 3 PF's who barely play for our team...that combined...make over 20 million next year...(not including Moore)
Personally, I'm happy with the production we get from Moore. It's nothing great, but at least he's improving lately.

Wow...that's a bit, uhh, in poor taste. I would expect much better from you.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

No one wants to move KT more than I do, but I have such a low opinion of Nene that I don't see him as being a signifcant step forward when you factor in his contract and him being repeatedly on the shelf for injuries.
I'd much rather send Artest/KT for nothing but pure expiring than take on Nene.
