CV for Swift????

Post#1 » by carmelbrownqueen » Thu Jan 31, 2008 6:28 pm

Let me start by saying I haven't been told anything about this being a possiblity.

However, reading Hoopshype.com today, I couldn't help but wonder if Larry Harris would again pursue Stromile Swift. In the past Harris has tried to sign him believing that he could be a good addition to the team. Not saying I agree with that standpoint.. but could that possibly be a destination for CV? Discuss.

He's not getting very many minutes in Memphis (somewhat comparable to CV I suppose) and his averages thus far have been underwhelming.. something like 6 ppg 3 rpg. So nothing exciting, however if Harris can't grab a more productive player that's currently on the open market then perhaps a one year rental of Swift (player option for next season) might meet their needs?

Not sure, I was just throwing it out there.

can he hit a jump shot? I'd like a PF like an Antonio McDyess that can draw out his defender which could help deter the double on Bogut...I know the double will usually come from the SF or guard...which is fine, because that would leave an open perimeter shot so the inside-outside game would open up.

or you know, if he can come off the bench and bang the boards and play solid defense...he could be a nice back up to Yi...Yi and CV are just too similar...the bucks need a tough nosed player down on the block to counter Yi's outside game.

I live in Memphis, and believe me we do not want Swift playing for the Bucks.

Real bad attitude. He was suspended this week for cussing out the head coach for pulling him out of the game.

Based on what I was reading on the Grizz board.. fans seemed under the impression that Stro attempted to talk with his coach and wasn't overly animated or inappropriate. Don't know if something else happened behind closed doors.. but the impression I got was the suspension came after he had a bad sequence of events in a game, was called for a foul and then benched. Said something about how he tried to explain, and then was suspended for a game.

What did you hear other than that or what did you see in that game (assuming you saw it)? Just curious.

We don't need another idiot on this team

Swift's IQ is not high

We need to add smart, tough basketball players...Swift is neither and not nearly enough value for CV, I'd rather hang onto him

What do you think is CV's value in the league?

I know some have said otherwise, but I doubt we can get a player that we truly want for him without giving up more than we are willing to give.

Hollinger scouting report...

Scouting report: Swift has learned nothing about defense in his seven years in the league, routinely falling asleep off the ball, missing block outs or turning his head while a guard dribbles past his other ear. He made up for this at times with his shot-blocking -- his rates of blocks and steals both ranked in the top 15 among centers -- though many of these were desperation blocks that resulted from being out of position in the first place. In his defense, the Grizzlies put him in a tough spot by using him as a backup center; at 6-9, 230 pounds, this was just a wee bit of a stretch.

Swift also has become much more turnover prone the past two years, with last season's 14.1 turnover ratio the worst yet. Two years ago in Houston he had a serious problem dropping passes at inopportune times -- like, say, when he was wide open under the basket -- but that seemed less of an issue last season. Instead, it was a propensity for throwing away outlet passes that appeared to be his undoing, along with a slew of illegal screens.

That said, Swift is a good enough offensive player that he still makes a decent reserve, especially at power forward. He has a high scoring rate for a frontcourt player (16.3 points per 40 minutes), shoots a decent percentage because he's a good finisher and has range out to 15 feet, and rebounds well despite his lack of muscle. Memphis' switch to a more up-tempo style also should help; he's spent nearly his whole career in grind-it-out systems that didn't play to his strengths.

FWIW, his PER this year is 16.22, which is the highest it's been in years.

I understand his value is not high

But I believe that nothing that Swift can bring us makes us a better team.

We really need to focus on bringing in smart basketball players. I can't stress that enough. We are a dumb team, plain and simple.

Swift is a horrible defender I want him nowhere near this team.

Any trades mentioned in the past fell through already. Could they be revisited or heat up again around the trade deadline? Possibly. Lots of talking not lots of movement.

Right after the CV/Redd trade your sources told you about before the Wiz game.

I don't think CV has a ton of value... I think we could do better than Stro for him though.

I was hoping for Pietrus, personally.

Hey fam, I've notice that when you try to link to a post, you just link to the page it is on.

Are you aware you can link directly to posts?

Just use copy the link location of the little post icon next to the timestamp line.
For example, in that post, it is the icon to the left of the "Posted: Sun Jan 27, 2008 11:51 pm Post subject:"

Then you end up with this:

In my opinion we don't need another low b-ball IQ guy on this team.

We have too many as it is.
