ESPN Gives Some Miller Trade Ideas

Post#1 » by THFM » Thu Jan 31, 2008 2:51 pm

J.A. Adande, ESPN.com: If the Trail Blazers want to accelerate their arrival date, upgrade the point position and get a little more experience in Portland, why not make a play for another "1" who could be available: Andre Miller. It could cost a little less than the proposal being bandied about Wednesday.

How about Channing Frye, Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw to Philadelphia for Miller? The Blazers get a point guard with slightly better stats than Devin Harris, the player they would get from the Dallas Mavericks in the proposed three-team deal with New Jersey. The Sixers get three good young players to get their rebuilding process under way.

Brian Windhorst, Akron Beacon Journal: Cavs GM Danny Ferry has proven to be two things: conservative and determined to win his deals, be they trades or player signings. While the fan base in Cleveland badly wants a major deal to get a point guard like Mike Bibby, Jason Kidd, or Andre Miller, because of the Cavs' lack of assets, a smaller deal is more likely.

Picking up another shooter or a big man for depth with Anderson Varejao down with injury with the expiring contracts of Ira Newble and Shannon Brown is realistic.

Two years ago a Mike Wilks-for-Flip Murray swap ended up being a positive injection for the team. The Cavs have been calling around the league for weeks just to see who might become available by Feb. 21.

The only reason why I don't like the portland trade is because we get no expirings what so ever, and that really doesn't help but I do like Frye a lot as our PF. We don't need Blake or Outlaw.

I don't like frye at all. there is no chance in hell we get outlaw for miller. He's redundant on our team as well.
They say an analytics man doesn't have a heart, but I ran the numbers and nothing can be further from the truth - Sam Hinkie probably

That Portland deal I would totally do. You get a pure PG in Blake, a good SF off the bench in Outlaw and a scoring but somewhat soft PF to play with Dalembert. All young players, all up and comers.

Blake/Williams
Green/Carney or Outlaw
Iggy/Outlaw
Frye/Evans
Dalembert/Smith

Out goes Randolph and Ollie
Two years from being two years away.

Why would Portland want Miller over Harris?

Channing Frye, Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw...

Blake- Not interested.

Frye- Not interested.

Outlaw- Interested, but like sixersftw said, redundant?

Isn't Harris a poison pill player this year and a BYC player next yeat?? Wouldn't trading him be damn near impossible until after NEXT season??

Miller goes before the deadline... 3 weeks?

Too many teams are too close, especially after Clev's run last year, to not make a move for a player like Andre. He would be the ideal PG in Port, Orlando, Atl, among others.

I don't doubt that there are teams that want Andre. I do doubt that Stefanski is going to give away for 60 cents on a dollar the way King gave Iverson away.

I would do that deal. Blake's 4.25 million expires.

Iguodala, Young, and Outlaw would give the team tremdous depth and length at the 2/3 position. Frye, although soft, is a great back up big who can come off the bench and score the basketball.

blazehound, I realize Fry is a bit soft and not a great rebounder- but how has he done defending some of the better PF's ion the west? Is he totally overmatched? Does Aldridge always get the tougher assignment?

If we start Sam, Young and Iguodala we may have enough rebounding and defense to compensate for Fry's softness- but only if he a decenst man defender. we can't make Sam always cover up for him, or he will be in foul trouble and out of position on the boards.

Not a great answer- but I think we could get by with Fry/Smith/Evans splittting time at the PF. At least until a better PF becomes available.

I posted this in the game thread but I guess here is a better spot for this. Chad Ford had a chat on espn.com today and talked about yet another possible home for Andre Miller.

Joe (Tampa): Andre Miller to the Magic for Arroyo, Dooling (expiring contracts) and Reddick?

Chad Ford: Very good deal for the Magic ... however, I'm not sure that's going to be enough for the Sixers. I think they want more than expiring contracts and a lot of GMs around the league think Reddick can't play. How good would Ronnie Brewer have looked in a Magic uniform? Maybe if Jameer Nelson was in the deal ... maybe. Larry Brown loves him.

Would you move Miller if it meant bringing Jameer home along with a couple of expiring contracts??

No Jameer hasnt' been the same since the extension and when his father passed away (RIP). So no trade for me.

done done done..............as long as Nelson is'nt injured. Tho admitedly I still think Reddick can play if he got some clock. plus we need some shooters. add in Carney to this trade to make it match up and then I'm on board!

i'm not a fan of trading miller at all. right now he seems to be the catalyst that makes an under-talented team perform above the level that most people expect (although, i understand for many fans, that's a negative at least for the duration of this season).

but if we're going to let him go, please god let's not do it half-assedly and get frye, blake, and outlaw in return. go for all expirings (and possibly, picks) so we can use the space to get a real impact player this summer. i have faith in stefanski that he'll make the most of miller's value and not pull some weak stuff like this trade.

as a side note, why does it seem like national sports writers (i have no idea where adande is from but i don't think it's philly) have no idea what's going on with the sixers? the rebuilding process is decidedly underway and has been for quite some time here.. the pieces we have now (iguodala, dalembert, young, williams) are far superior to trash like frye and blake.

You guys don't have to worry about that Portland idea from Adande. There's not a chance the Blazers would even consider that stinker.
