After Wade, Johnson is the best shooting guard in the East. He can shoot, pass, rebound and defend, and he has the ability to play some point if needed. While Vince Carter has been tapering-off these last few months, Johnson has been a steady hand waiting for his teammates to catch-up to him in Atlanta.
Got this from TSN by Tim Chisholm and he didn't pick calderon for the reserves.

The Joe Johnson choice is one of the worst all-star picks of all time.
Here we've got a player who isn't considered a superstar having a subpar year on a losing team. He hasn't even been the best player on his own team this year.
I saw I couple of different authors point out this week that all-star mistakes usually come in 2 forms. Trying to find a 2nd Center (Magloire, Davis and Davis etc...) or picking an extra player off a winning team. So at least going with Ray Allen or Rasheed Wallace would have been keeping with the usual mistake pattern and have been somewhat understandable. This is unprecidented.
There's absolutely no solid argument that can be made for JJ here.

^^ Hater, I agree man. Hedo deserved it the most out of the Jose / Hedo / Allen / Crash / Smith. Heck JJ wasn't even close to these guys. Putting up stats is one thing, but being effective is another. How many games has JJ won for his team or dominated really? Last time I checked, Jose and TJ ran him out of the gym when we played Atlanta twice this year. Just don't get it man. Orlando wouldn't be half the team they are if not for Hedo. Their PG's suck badly and Hedo handles the ball more than their PGs and is their real floor general. I just don't get this snub really.
I guess that Max contract can really inflate your star status. If they HAD to pick up a guy from a losing team, it HAD to be Crash.

You make no sense other than your name... Joe Johnson is averaging
21.2ppg, 5.3apg, 4.4rpg.. Now if that's a subpar year Joe Johnson is a future Hall of Famer... And the Hawks are improved from last year, its not like they were good and all of a sudden fell apart.. They're 7th in the East, what the hell more could they do in one year...
And if they can't pick players from losing teams, I guess KG shouldn't have made it all those years.. and CB4 should only be a 2 time All-Star instead of 3..

Atlanta has been inconsistent this year and frankly not that good. JJ is shooting a lousy 41% and isn't bring it all the time. The play of Josh / Marvin / & the man Toronto now hates has helped Atlanta more than JJ this year.
To me Hedo / Calderon are better All-Star picks but Hedo is a Forward is he not ?
but I think the "top 8" teams in the East have at least one representation so that might have been the thinking.

Hawks are improved cuz of two guys not named Joe Johnson. Those two guys are:
Al Horford
Marvin Williams
If anything, Johnson has only regressed this year.

The coaches who picked Joe Johnson probably didn't see an Atlanta Hawk game the whole season. The best player on that team is Josh Smith and he is more influential for that team than anyone.
Jose is snubbed, but I am not surprised. Some of these coaches don't even know who Jose is. Borat would have said 'Asking the coaches to pick the all-star, is like asking a monkey flying a plane...'

Not to mention that if the season ended today, the Hawks are in the playoffs at 7th in the Eastern Conference.

Joe has been pretty bad in the last couple of weeks because of his injury and his shot hasn't been falling all year, but the man is an All Star player. He has the respect of the coaches and players, he deserves it. Calderon has a good chance to make it in the next few years.

If you use that argument, then Shaq should get in too. He didn't play well this year and he was injured; but he is an All Star player.

The difference is Joe is still putting up good (All Star worthy) stats even if his shooting percentage is down and his team would be in the playoffs if the season ended today. So no.

Basically, Joe Johnson take 18.7 shots to get 21 points. That's how you put up All Star worthy stats? Chuck up more shots? And he play more than 40 minutes per game.
If Josh Smith made it in, I have no qualms. He puts up even more impressive numbers.

Heck, JJ isn't even putting up good stats. He's shooting 40% from the floor, 35% from the arc and has a PER of barely over 16. 3 players on his own team are putting up better PER numbers.
