how do I know if he is actually the one who takes the time to pick out a charity and give it out to them? and of course he's going to have image consultants to tell him to give to charity and make appearances for charity..EVERY celebrity with that much money has given money back to the community at one point, they have to..they need to maintain an image..he probably has millions sitting around that he doesn't need anyways..

but what I do know is that Lebron made inappropriate comments towards Marbury's charity efforts..and I know that for a fact, BECAUSE IT CAME OUT OF LEBRON'S MOUTH..why should I believe that he cares, when he's made comments like that?..

"we at Nike hold our standards high"..that is one of the worst comments I've ever heard in my life, considering the context of it..ridiculous..I can't believe anybody can defend it..

I don't give a **** about the petition, I was just making a joke about it, because he probably wouldn't care anyways..I don't believe athletes need to get involved with social issues, so I won't rip him for that..

but the Marbury issue is different, because he didn't have to say anything like that..there's nothing you can really say to defend what Lebron said..it's pretty pathetic of him..

That's all pretty ignorant. LeBron's been involved in plenty for his hometown. Do some google-ing before you decide to blindly hate.

how is selling a shoe a "charity effort"?

LeBron sells shoes, Marbury sells shoes. They both profit when their shoes sell. They both also contribute to charity and are to be commended for their work there. But lets not confuse their charity work with their marketing efforts.

What would you have LeBron say when asked the question? Would you have him endorse his competition, diminish the value of the brand that makes him more money than basketball?

LeBron is the one they asked, but most any athlete with a shoe contract would give some sort of similar answer. And if they didn't, they'd hear from it from their shoe company. It's really no different than Jordan and Barkley draping the american flag over the reebock logo on their warmup jerseys during the olympics.

You are making way too much of a deal over one comment. And you want to completely ignore the charity work that LeBron does, the giving back to his community that he does. You are the one who keeps saying stuff like he forgets where he came from when the reality is he's actively involved in the community he came from.

LOL I don't understand some of you people..how am I being ignorant? I'm defending Marbury in this situation..people who are defending Lebron are ignorant..pure stupidity..

I just acknowledged that he's done charity work..I'm not blindly hating, I GAVE FACTS..are you denying Lebron used those words against Marbury's efforts for charity? that's all I need to say..

Paris Hilton has done charity work, am I supposed to believe she gives a **** about people lower than her in class?..OJ Simpson has done charity work, and he's a murderer..Michael Jackson is a molester and he does charity work..of course charity is a good thing, but people are fake all the time..

doing charity work doesn't mean anything..your consultants could be the ones planning it for you..it's just to maintain an image..but I know for a fact Lebron made comments about Marbury's charity works in a negative way, and nobody can defend that..

YOu say you give facts when you don't. LeBron said NOTHING negative about any charity work Marbury does. He commented on the shoe that Marbury SELLS for a PROFIT in competition with LeBron's own brand. I don't care what market segment he targets, that's not charity work.

dude..I'm not hating on Lebron for having a shoe deal, he can promote whatever he wants with his shoes..my favorite player, Tim Duncan, has a shoe deal..my 2nd favorite player, KG, has a shoe deal..every star in the NBA has a shoe deal..

What would you have LeBron say when asked the question? Would you have him endorse his competition, diminish the value of the brand that makes him more money than basketball?

he could have said ANYTHING positive..I'm not asking him to promote Marbury's shoe..all he had to say is, "that's good, it's good that he's doing something for the kids"..that doesn't mean he's against Nike, or promoting Steph's shoes..it's a simple, harmless comment..except he doesn't sound like an **** doing it..

LeBron is the one they asked, but most any athlete with a shoe contract would give some sort of similar answer. And if they didn't, they'd hear from it from their shoe company. no they wouldn't have..nobody would say "I wouldn't wear them..we at Nike hold our standards high"..nobody would say that..maybe Damon Jones or someone, but nobody with a brain..

you're comparing those 2 incidents? come on dude, don't be a homer..nobody is getting hurt by something like that..

I can't believe that..I believe he does it for the image and the credit of it..how can I ignore comments like that?..

Lebron is a role model to millions..he's the best basketball player in the best league in the entire world..he shouldn't be giving negative comments when poor kids and families are involved..

again you confuse charity and marketing. How does anything a person says about their competition relate at all to the motivation for their charity efforts?

Selling cheap shoes is quite the noble charity I guess, I feel bad about insulting Payless shoes now. People can always buy sneakers that cheap, it isn't a huge breakthrough, stop getting your panties in a knot. What are you going to find to hate on LeBron about next? Maybe attack him for failing to represent his country in international basketball when he was asked, oh wait, that was KG and Tim Duncan.

selling a shoe is not charity. Saying it is is an insult to anybody who actually does charity. and I do know Marbury does lots of charity work. Just this isnt part of it.

As Ive been saying all along.. Marbury's shoe idea is something he was forced into. I mean really if you were a kid and could afford $150 shoes and you had your choice between LeBron's, Kobe's, Wade's, Melo's, Iverson's, KG's, Duncan's, Paul's, and then Marbury's shoes, who's shoes on that list would you NOT buy? If Marbury wanted to continue selling his shoes and making profits the only thing he could hope to do was to make cheap shoes and to sell them cheap. Its not charity, its a smart business move that all sorts of companies deploy.

Like it or not, LeBron is in competition with Marbury's shoes. He's not crapping on Marbury's charity work, because this IS NOT charity work. It is his competition, I see absolutely no problem with not supporting your competition. Let me repeat, it is not charity, it is LeBron's competition. End of story. Stop trying to turn it into something it really wasnt.

Stephon Marbury is a **** millionaire..he doesn't have to create his own shoe to make a profit..there are MANY other ventures that he could explore that would bring him money..he has millions to invest..he wouldn't just invest in a company that sells 15$ shoes for no reason..

whether or not you believe Marbury's motive(like I don't believe Lebron's charitable motives) the mission statement is that he is doing it for underprivileged kids and families..so regardless of believing it or not, Lebron knows the point of Marbury's shoes, and he still made those comments FOR NO REASON..that's what y'all don't understand..it has nothing to do with business..he doesn't have to make those comments, but he did..

a lot of people are negatively brainwashed by companies like Nike and fake dudes like Lebron..it's becoming pathetic..

Lebron and Nike have enough money, it's simply poor judgment by an idiot superstar to use those words, when it involves kids..Lebron is a greedy piece of ****..

stop being brainwashed..please..listen to everything that happened, and don't be homers..

no, it's not a charity, it's a marketing tactic that is proving to be quite profitable for Steve & Barry's - now a $billion company. From wikipedia

Steve & Barry's business model is to keep prices low by not advertising through traditional streams, relying on publicity and viral marketing to get the word out, running its company and stores very efficiently, selling in large volumes, and making modest profits on each item.

see that word - profit - that's why they do this.

Make no mistake, they are in the low price maket to make money, as is Marbury. I am sure he's making more money now than he was when he was trying to sell whatever shoe he had before this. Saying you are trying to help the poor afford shoes is part of the marketing message.

again, like I said, you don't have to believe it..it's obviously possible he's only in it for the money..but the mission statement is that it's for unfortunate kids and all of that, and Lebron doesn't HAVE TO make comments like that..it's completely unnecessary..I'm not asking him to pimp Marbury's shoes..but would you disagree it was an unnecessary and stupid comment by Lebron?.."I wouldn't wear them" is enough, but "we hold our standards high"..what is the point of that? getting poor kids to save money to buy Nike's instead of 15$ shoes that have good quality is wrong IMO..

LeBron stated fact. I gave you Steve & Berry's marketing strategy, here's Nike's, again from wikipedia

Nike's marketing strategy is an important component of the company's success. Nike is positioned as a premium-brand, selling well-designed and expensive products.

Two different standards. Nike isn't going to sell at $15 shoe. They can't afford to. Because unlike Steve & Berry's, Nike spends billions to build and maintain an image. Without companies like Nike spending those billions on advertising to build brand awareness, players like Marbury wouldn't have $20 million/year contracts.

Lebron didn't hate on anyone doing charity. He just didn't sign it. It would be a stupid business move on his behalf. NO player would sign that in Lebron's shoes. The Stephon Marbury thing isn't charity. It isn't even the least bit honorable. He has to sell cheap shoes because no one would want Marbury shoes if they weren't like eight dollars. Lebron isn't stupid and he knows that Steph is his competition. If steph could sell his shoes at the price Nike sells bron's he would. And while were on the subject of Steph and the darfur situation, who the hell makes Starburys? 30 year olds in Tampa? Doubtful. Doesn't respect where he's from? Sell out? Bron isn't from Darfur and has the right to root for any baseball team he likes.
