Not a bad way to start this road trip. We played horrible tonight and almost stole the toughest game of this road trip. Hopefully we have some energy left against Toronto. That would be a nice make up win.
Kobe, outside of the turnovers (about half of which might not have been his fault), played brilliantly tonight. Too bad our 2nd option was no where to be found. Another double double for Kobe? Crazy.
Ronny is playing great as well. He's looking quite capable of being our starting PF, seeing as how Odom doesn't seem to want that job.
Kwame was a complete disappointment tonight. He's such a liability on offense. Several times he should have gone up and dunked but instead tried to pump fake. He needs to get his head out of his ass and work with Kareem. I can't wait until Bynum gets back. The game is going to open up for everyone and we immediately become much better on both ends. Kwame is simply not getting the job done on either end of the floor, and his piss poor conditioning is a big part of the reason.
Finally, Sasha has to knock down those open 3's. What more could he ask for? He always gets great looks, and there's no reason he shouldn't be shooting well over 45% from downtown.

Agreed. We should be offering up Odom+Kwame in a 3-way with Miami/NJ. If we could land Haslem (better fit than Odom) and Kidd for those two goofballs then I'd be a happy man.

Yeah I didn't see any phantom calls for Kobe. There was maybe one or two calls missed in Kobe's favor in the first half, but both teams were doing a lot of whining tonight even though the officiating was right on most of the game. I had no idea what Mcdyess was thinking getting that tech when he clearly hacked Kobe across the arm.
Pistons just played the superior defense in the end and we're obviously suffering from the injury bug. Not to mention we have some terrible execution in late game situations. Last time Luke didn't even know the shot clock and this time Odom shoots outside jumper when he had a lane to the basket.

We were down by 17 points at one point. Kobe came back into the game, he slowed it down, and we started to crawl back into it.
Of course we were led by Kobe, but I think Fisher had a very gutsy performance against Billups. His strength, and Farmar's lack of, was a major difference in the unevenness of our guard play.
Turiaf was gutsy as all hell as well. Farmar played scared. So did Vujacic. So did almost everybody.
Tonight was exactly that, a gut check. It tested our composure. Surely, in years past, we would have given up and died.
But this is a new team. Kobe is the eye of the hurricane, never panicking, patiently trusting in his teammates, controlling the game. Fisher is all heart, whether his shot goes in or not. And so is Turiaf. We didn't win tonight, but we did show that there's always fight within us, that we don't give up, that you're going to have to play and fight us until the very end.
There are no moral victories, but without key players, we played our hearts out. Or, at least three of us did.

My opinions on the game. Lamar had a horrible game so i agree with everyone on this point,but that's not a excuse to blowing this game. We still had plenty of opportunities.
1. Make your Free Throws. In close games on the road you have got to make your free throws. Turiaf played a great defensive game,but there is no excuse to not make both of his free throws. Honestly he should have finished the dunk and made the free throw and put us up by 4.
2. Coaching - Why is Lamar even in the game on a last 2nd shot in the 1st place? Why not have someone like Farmar or Fisher take the ball out of bounds. Now Kwame has 2 options,give it up to his right to Fisher or Farmar,or to his left to Kobe.
Even if Lamar is in the game,put him in rebounding position,not in shooting position. Phil is a 9 time champion,but he doesnt execute plays very well with 4 to 5 seconds left in games.

Consistently shooting way above 45% would require being one of the best shooters in NBA history.
40-45% is reasonable, well over 45% is not IMO.

Looking at Kobe at the end, it looked like he threw his hands in the air as to say "what the hell did you guys do" type thing.. Doesn't seem to me, like he'd give that kind of reaction if it were drawn up like that.
If it was drawn up like that, I'm sure he would have just shook his head and walked towards the bench.
Again, just my opinion..

I blame Phil for that last play, not Lamar.
Just because Lamar makes the 2nd most money on the team does not mean he's the second best option after Kobe.
If you're going to use Kobe as a decoy then get the ball to a shooter.
Fish or Farmar should've taken that shot.
That was terrible.

Go back 6 years and we can include Tayshaun who was picked 23rd. We did have 1 very high pick during that time though and Joe D picked Darko (Melo, Wade, Bosh, Kaman, ouch) but that turned into a 15th pick from Orlando which was used to draft Stuckey.
Overall Joe has done good with later picks but has blown the high ones (Rodney White and Darko).
