Cuban Willing to Break the Bank for Kidd

Post#1 » by arkuo » Fri Feb 1, 2008 2:15 pm

from the New York post.... per hoopshype...

As widely reported, the Mavericks are the most interested Jason Kidd suitor. The reverse is true, as well. Aside from Dallas being a legitimate championship contender as currently comprised (a prerequisite), a source close to agent Jeff Schwartz claims Mark Cuban would be willing to give Kidd the one-year, $20 million extension (for 2009-2010) he was unable to get from the Nets.

my question is, if cuban were willing to pay that type of money, then why didnt we just re-sign steve nash years ago???

Because Nash isn't worth about half of that :banghead:
I think at this point acquiring Kidd is a recognition that letting Nash get away was a crucial mistake... No matter how "cheap" he comes in terms of talent.
10:20 (pm, 6/29/06) The Mavs take Maurice Ager at No. 28... Ager walks up to the stage in a triple-breasted, oversized beige suit, goes to shake hands with Stern and immediately gets whistled for a foul on Dwyane Wade.

Theres a shocker!

Imagine that. All this time, I thought he was willing to destroy our future and only keep Kidd 2 years.

Conversely, I though Kidd wanted to come to Dallas because we are the only team in the league not willing to give him an extention.

I think right there is the story of the year for Peter Vecsey and his New York media credentials.

I thought when Chicago signed Ben Wallace to that big contract they put themselves into contender status.

I see some parallels here if Dallas signs Kidd to a 20mil/per deal, depending on the length of the contract of course.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

tap on the breaks there - it's Peter Vescey who wrote this and we all know what a close relationship those two have...

I dont think anybody aside from LeBron and Kobe are worth 20 million a year, especially when they are almost 35 years old. I hope Kidd comes to Dallas, especially after last nights game... No wonder Kidd wants to come here so bad. But Kidd is a player that other stars want to play ball with, so he brings that with him too.

I thought Kidd was asking NJN for a $13 mil extention.

Cuban Willing to Give Kidd an Extension?Posted: 2/1/2008 12:29:00 PM
Source: New York Post

AS widely reported, the Mavericks are the most interested Jason Kidd suitor. The reverse is true, as well. Aside from Dallas being a legitimate championship contender as currently comprised (a prerequisite), a source close to agent Jeff Schwartz claims Mark Cuban would be willing to give Kidd the one-year, $20 million extension (for 2009-2010) he was unable to get from the NetsNew Jersey Nets .

At the same time, trade talk between the two teams has been brief. "Some ideas have been exchanged," according to someone in the know, "but nothing is close."

Not with Dallas. Not with any team.

"They want what we don't want to give up," reports a Mavericks hall monitor.

That's true at the outset of every trade negotiation, of course. If a team wants a player or wants to get rid of a player badly enough, the compromising part comes later. In this case, it could turn out to be sooner.

Except for one fundamental problem that may prove insurmountable.

"We don't have any huge bad contracts to give up," the Dallas source explained. "So it's going to take six players just to equal Kidd's ($19,728 million) salary. "We can't give up half our roster to do a deal and they can't free up enough roster slots."

20 million bucks for kidd is way too much... at least for me.... should have just spent part of that money for nash, sent toine some place else that would net us anyone but terry, and still trade jamison to the wiz for stack and harris... nash and harris would be a pretty good PG rotation...

makes me wonder how come they dont use the KVH scenario.. if a bad contract were all it took for kidd to come here without giving up harris, then kidd would have been wearing his dallas jersey again...

All this stuff is BS. Did we hear anything from LA or Memphis about Gasol? No.

All the media coverage is just New Jersey trying to run up the price of Kidd and let's be honest the entire Dallas organization is playing the game and saying exactly what they should to insure it doesn't help.

One of two things will happen.

#1. We will get Kidd for a cheaper price as the deadline looms closer.

#2. Nothing will happen w/ New Jersey and Dallas will look to add other pieces else where.

I doubt Cuban would swallow that big of a KVH deal, especially for a Jason Kidd. Too much money, not enough difference.
