I wouldn't do this, mainly due to Nene's long contract, but I would consider Artest for Najera/JR Smith and their 1st Rounder.
The expiring salaries would be a wash (assuming Artest opts out), but the pick could be decent (especially if the Nuggets fall out of the playoffs).
I would prefer a better draft pick (Miami/New York) but if that can't happen I would get what I can.

Denver fan,
What about something like: Kleiza or Smith, Najera, Hunter and a 1st for Artest, Thomas and a 2nd. I didn't check it out on the trade checker but it should work.
It doesn't work, but: Smith, Najera, Hunter, and Atkins does, and I wouldn't want Atkins if I were a kings fan, unless another deal involving Bibby were to happen.

A bunch of guys who really don't fill any needs for us. Pass.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

I think that is a great deal for the Kings. If Nene has his health issues worked out. I have never been real big on Nene but have softened up on him the last year or so. I think he is a lot more skilled than people or I realized. This deal is pretty good if the Kings are looking for value. I think a Nene/Miller/Hawes frontline is a GREAT motion offense big man rotation.
Problem is, I don't know if I like the idea of the Kings taking on a contract like Nene's. That pretty much puts to bed any idea of youth and rebuilding. Don't really need to even add Kenny Thomas, what's the point, we are taking on more salary for 09 than we are getting rid of anyway? Even a straight across Artest for Nene/(maybe) a pick should be just fine if they were targeting Nene.
oops just noticed that Nene wasn't a part of this deal. Kings probably say no unless Nene is added.

I'd rather get Nene. He could be the young big man we've been looking for. He's still only 25.

I'd say this is another manufactured piece of garbage story.
I understand it's the reporter's job to do stuff like this, but this is just poor craftsmanship on a story. It lacks legitimacy, at least there's been some in other various created stories I've read about.

As bad as the Bee is, I'd say that when it comes to trades and rumors of trade or the draft, they do a pretty good job of reporting substantiated reports.

Alright, but this one is just too wild.
Considering how Ron doesn't fit well with Denver, and all of the various factors with Nene covered in this thread.
Ron improves their defense, and adds another quality offensive player (I thought that wasn't needed on the wings wih AI/Carmelo?), but takes away their best post-defender, their only legit big man offensive option, and a significant option in their running game.

i think if we do a deal with denver were we only trade artest i believe it would be
artest for e.najera $4,952,312 expiring and linas kleiza 1,011,360 with 2 yrs more next year also and the final year would be a qualifying offer plus the kings get the nuggets 1st round pick this year !
i loved nene in the past but with his recent serious injuries etc. not to mention the cancer issue i would have to pass on him now as he has a bigger contract that does not expire until after the 2011 season !

Sam Amick does a pretty good job and is fairly reliable. He is in a completely different universe from the likes of Pete Vescey. He also never said/implied that there was a strong possibility of anything going down with the Nuggets or that anyone even made any offers. He just pointed out that there had been discussions.

Smills91 wrote:Yup, that's the one caveat that is positive for the Kings with the effing lakers getting Gasol. Artest's value just jumped up a bit. I could see the Jazz/Nuggets/Rockets/Mavs all interested in Ron a wee bit more now.
I disagree. The Lakers got Gasol for NOTHING....now teams are going to want Artest/Bibby for NOTHING....

They got the EXCACT kind of package I would love to have for Artest. Say whatever you want for Gasol but that is exactly along the lines of something, maybe even half of what I would like to see Artest getting. That's all we need right now...chill out baby.

But Artest is expiring...so why would we want that same kind of package??

You've obviously never taken economics. It's supply and demand. The supply on STAR level players just dropped with Gasol moving. That leaves what left? Jason Kidd? Ron Artest? Mike Bibby? etc left on the market. With the supply dropping by one, that INCREASES demand. The fact that the Lakers got BETTER also adds external pressure to teams like the Jazz/Nuggets/Rockets and even Mavs/Suns/Spurs as well.
They'll view the Lakers as a greater threat and want to add to what I'd call an 'arms' race.
Gasol moving to the Lakers INCREASES Rons value and liklihood of being moved even more.

It's not the 1st time Nene has been rumored to be in the interest of Geoff Petrie. Remember when Cuttino Mobley was a free agent there were talks about Nene coming here as well.

Really? Is that a basic economics principle?
So when I go buy a gallon of gas, it makes the person across the street want to drive that much more? Or when I get Minnie Wheats, it makes my sister in law want them even more?

You're pathetic...pulling out completely irrelevant diatribe to prove what? Exactly how do mini-wheats enter the conversation?
