The difference between Paul's and Derons man to man defense if far greater than any other difference between the two. To me, that gives the slight egde to Paul. One thing I would like to know, if anyone had the time to look it up, would be their numbers as far as shooting percentage and turnovers in the 4th. That could make it an even closer battle, or it could give even more of an edge to Paul. It would be interesting to know.

Let's see here: Paul scores more points than Williams but he shoots a lower field goal percentage....That would have to mean he shoots more shots per game than Williams, OH, yes it does indeed.....If Williams shot as much as Paul, he would score more points per game than him.....Wow, what a concept....I'll take Deron's efficient shooting.....
Paul also shoots a higher free throw pct and his A/T ratio is substantially better. The two players are extremely close with different strengths, so it really comes down to personal opinion. Deron is here so I am for him.

I still don't see how anyone can say they are that close right now, and that its a matter of preference. Paul is clearly playing better this year. There is no way you can really doubt that.
Plus, if shooting% is the end all be all of PGs, then why isn't Calderon better than both? And not just that, but Steve Nash is head and shoulders above everyone else in the league (which I don't believe is the case, although I still do see him as the best in the NBA).
Taking FG% and extrapolating it out doesn't work. A player shooting 48% on 9 fgapg, scoring 12 ppg wouldn't necessarily shoot 48% on 12 fgapg for a boost to 14ppg. It doesn't work that way. Shot selection is a big part of FG%, if you change the shot selection, its more than likely that the % will change.

The obsession on this board over another team's star player is quite astounding and a bit funny/sad. I mean, at least we don't have to spend hours kvetching about Carmelo vs AK anymore, but good grief! Deron is awesome. Paul is awesome. Both teams are winning. As I have often stated on this board, Chris Paul's success does not lessen Deron's and the same is true the other way around.
That being said, CP3 is CLEARLY having a better season than Deron this year, just like Deron had a clearly superior seaon last year. Coming to any other conclusion is just blantant homerism, in my opinion.

Exactly. That's all I'm saying. I love Deron Williams, and I am in no way pining for Chris Paul. Had I the opportunity to trade them for one another at this moment in time, straight up, I wouldn't do it. Who knows who will have the better career, or be better at their respective peaks.
But right now, Paul is playing better. No biggie, though it makes for great food for thought.

Let me preface my post by saying that I think Chris Paul is a great player and is having a good year......
That being said, I am SICK AND TIRED of the media and NBA love fest with Chris Paul. Sure he is having a better year than Deron, but not by that much. People act like he is averaging 10 more points, 5 more assists, 5 more steals, 3 more blocks, etc. HE'S NOT. He is averaging a point more, an assist more, and what a steal and half. That to me is not "heads and shoulders above" what Deron is doing. Sure Deron is turning the ball over more this year, so I give Paul the edge there, but Deron is shooting better and scoring nearly as much as the 3rd-4th option on the Jazz, where Paul is the first.
Last year Deron had the edge on Paul by nearly the same margins that Paul has the edge on Deron this year(except steals), yet last year where there any mentions of Deron as MVP...NO, Did Deron get an All-Star bid...NO, a video game cover....NO.
Is Paul a good point guard...YES....Is Deron a good point guard...YES....is Paul a whole tier above Deron...HELL NAH!

I commonly hear you guys complain about how Deron does in the 4th quarter and whether or not he's really acting the part of a "leader."
It isn't all about stats folks..
Enlighten us. What are these intangiables that Paul is so much better at than Deron. I can think of many times Deron has had game winning shots ala the Cavs game, and taken over the 4th quarter when no one else was. I forget which game it was recently but he had 10 points and 5 assists in the 4th quarter alone. Those sound like pretty good intangiables. Is there really a way to gage this. Intangiables can be a matter of opinion. Deron Williams is this team. If we lost him say hello to the lottery. We would have Jason Hart as our starting PG, shutter.

You either see it or you don't, no need for me to enlighten you.
I see a sort of moxie in Chris Paul that I see in no other player in the NBA including Deron. I see how the Hornets huddle around him and look for him to lead by example. Even the veteran guys look to him for answers.
I do not see this in Deron, though I'm guessing someone who has dedicated their username to Deron might disagree. Regardless, these are the sort of intangibles that many people [in the media] always praise Chris Paul and what IMO more than anything else seperates the two.

No I can't would have been enough. I don't have the luxury of being able to watch Chris Paul every game so obviously I can't see it, that's why I asked for an example and you giving no reason at all isn't going to sway anyone to your way of thinking. Do you watch all the Jazz games? Do you see Deron play every game? If so I will drop this now but if you don't how can you base what you're saying on comments from people on this board. That seems pretty weak to me.

Yes, I watch a fair amount of Jazz games, and I was probably watching Deron long before you were, as an Illinois fan. Even back then, he was without question the best basketball player on the team but was by no means the leader of that Illinois squad.

Wow, that was out of left field.
Don't know where you are getting your info, but if you listen to NBA commentators, the FIRST thing they mention about Deron Williams is his leadership and intangibles. Paul has a sort of star quality, a "hey, look at me" that Deron doesn't have, I will give you that, but that's marketing and PR stuff, not basketball.
When the chips are down, Deron steps up big. The guys look to him for direction, and he has a fire and competitive drive that few in the NBA possess, including Chris Paul. Of course, now we're heavy into the opinion based rhetoric, so maybe its better if you just lay off the topic. Don't know where you got your opinion, but its way off base.

Yeah that was Dee Brown all the way.
