This is some bull ****. Screw Chris Wallace. IMO, this makes the Lakers the best team in the league once Bynum comes back.
SF: Odom
PF: Gasol
C: Bynum
SG: Kobe
PG: Fisher
IMO, they now have one of the best front courts in the league, if not the best. They also have Kobe in the backcourt.
Jerry West must have had a hand in this.
The only way we can beat the Lakers now is if we can somehow get Cassell.
The Lakers came out great in the deal. This was just a robbery. **** Chris Wallace.

Spurs and Suns.
You'll see playoff time.
Suns are n't better than the lakers and on paper with Kobe LA is now the team to beat. This league is about the big mena and LA now has two low post scorers with mobility plus the black mamba. They also have a great coach

No matter how people spin it this is an awful trade for Memphis. Yes, they are cutting some salary but they just traded an all star pf for a rookie and 2 picks that are going to be late first rounders. They should have asked for more like Farmar or Turiaf but even still awful trade.
I don't think so. If you think about it solely considering this season, then yes it's a bad trade for the Grizz. But Memphis isn't going anywhere this season no matter what they do. So why not trade all your contracts while you can, create cap space, and improve your chances in the lottery while your at it? It's a no-brainer in my opinion.
They also didn't trade an all-star PF. The all-star reserves came out yesterday, and I didn't see Gasol's name on it nor did I see his name in any of the snubbed lists. That would indicate to me that Gasol is not an all-star nor even arguably an all-star. He was an all-star once, that does not make him an all-star for life, unless you follow the Antoine Walker 'veteran all-star' mantra.
What they did trade was a peaked PF with a massive contract who you cannot build a team around. Gasol is a good fit for the Lakers because he gives them a title shot, but his contract was just an albatross for the Grizzlies.
Think about the Grizz this upcoming off-season.
1. Top 5 pick in a pretty good draft.
2. 15-20 million under the cap.
3. Already have Conley, Miller, Gay, and Darko.
They could be legit NEXT YEAR if they draft well and sign a big free agent.
Think about what they feasibly be rocking next year:
PG: Conley
SG: Miller
SF: Gay
PF: Beasley
C: Darko
And that's not even spending the big chunk of cap space they are gonna have.
They are gonna have a ton of options at the end of the season. The more i think about it, the more I like what Memphis did.

Once again this shows the value of a LARGE expiring contract (Kwame), young talent and draft picks to a team that is struggling with an highly paid star player. This trade is just like the deal the Celtics did with Garnett.
I think it's a good deal for both teams. LA gets help right now and the Grizz get draft picks, young players and cap space for next year.
My calculations have the Griz at $39 million next year with the Swift trade, Gasol trade & Stoudamire buyout. Their pick will be a high pick (Top 5) this year. What free agent will they sign next year (Brand, Deng, Gordon)?
I think Wallace did well. Gasol was not going to lead them anywhere.

haha...Adande JUST answered my question. I posted as John.
John, MA: The Lakers just got the softest big in the league..Congrats!! Now Bynum will have to defend the likes of Dirk and Duncan one-on-one because Gasol cannot guard a chair. I guess the Lakers become a bigger version of the Suns..score 105 and give up 110.
SportsNation J.A. Adande: (3:49 PM ET ) This is too extreme, but it does bring up the main question the Lakers will have to address: defense. They had already demonstrated they were one of the top scoring teams with Bynum. I'm interested to see how this will work defensively. But they do have Ronny Turiaf, who I should have mentioned as being another Rambis-type that they already have.

Don't get wrong, this is a terrific trade for the Lakers. Just getting rid of Kwame makes them better. But...
1) The Lakers were pretty soft before. They still are.
2) The Lakers are not faster.
3) The Lakers are not better defensively. They are probably a little worse.
4) The Lakers are not better on the boards.
5) The Lakers are at least as brittle as before the trade. They've got one key guy out, and they have a few more players who have a hard time staying healthy including Gasol.
The Lakers are now much better in a half court offense. This will help. It may make them the favorite to reach the finals, but don't be surprised if Dallas outplays them, San Antonio shuts them down, or Phoenix runs them off the court.
Bottom line: Should it come down to it, the Celtics still match up very well against them.
Perkins took Bynum right out of the game both times this year.
Garnett is all over Gasol.
Pierce over Odom any day of the week.
Ray Allen does as well against Kobe as anyone.
Rondo just keeps getting better.
Also, the Celtics bench matches up very well.

No Phil's a carpetbagger, and Doc's a straight shooter. Doc undressed Phil both games this year. Jackson wasn't even smart enough to press the Celtics with Rondo out in the Game in LA.

Andrew Bynum's arrival makes this a master stroke. Many of us would not have wanted Gasol for Big Al straight up, IMO, for valid reasons. But, having him as a 3rd banana would seem to be a good fit as an inside/outside big man mix with Bynum down low and Gasol at his best from outside.
