Harris isn't allowed to make very many decisions on his own.. so Gadz and Zaza weren't solely his decision.rilamann wrote:-= original quote snipped =-
True,in the back of my mind I always have to remind myself to cut LH a bit of slack since he is basically Kohl's puppet or messenger.
But at the same time did Kohl force Harris not to match Zaza and give Gadz that crazy contract?
Did Kohl force LH to trade away Tj Ford for CV?

I really don't consider JCN a point guard. I guess maybe in very limited minutes. I think he's the shooter you bring off your bench. Even when he was starting and playing 37 minutes a game, he only averaged 3 assists to his 13 FGA. That makes Mo look like Jason Kidd.
I still think Conley is their man moving forward. I don't think he's going anywhere. He showed great flashes when he was starting; 10 points, 6 assists per game. I like to think we could put a package together for him, but I don't think anything realistic is out there to be truthful. Hope I'm wrong...
rilamann mentioned that the Lakers still wouldn't beat the Spurs, Suns, or Mavs in a series. I disagree. The Lakers have been able to give the Suns trouble even with Kobe playing superhero and doing everything. He has an even better supporting cast now. The Spurs are looking very beatable at this point. It'll be hard to judge them until we see them in the playoffs. The Mavs are tough, but Golden State proved that if you play them right you can knock them off. With Fisher/Kobe/Odom/Gasol/Bynum come playoff time I give them a shot.
Lakers have the potential to be very, very good IMO.
Maybe the Lakers could beat the Mavs but i'd be realy suprized if they beat the Spurs or Suns in a 7 game series.
The Lakers are improved and will be solid and they will definatly make the playoffs more interesting thats for sure but I still don't see them as NBA finals material.
I think they could give the Spurs,Suns & Mavs a good run and take those teams 6 or 7 games but just wouldnt be able to quite get over the hump and win the series.
My reasoning has a lot to do with the fact I dont think as highly of Gasol as some people.Hes a good player but not a guy whos going to put you over the top.
Maybe im wrong but Gasol is one of those guys who has his (big) games from time to time but not someone overall I ever been super impressed with.

This Pau Gasol trade is one of the biggest heists in the history of the modern day NBA.
For you to say the Lakers GM blew it big time, is just unfathomable for me to imagine why you think that.
ok maybe not blew it big time lol.....but the lakers GM blew it. why would they try to surround themselves with so many guys who like to score?? they already have odom, bryant, now gasol, fischer (a PG who likes to shoot it more than pass), and bynum who is improving, as well as other guys on the bench who like to score.
i just think gasol is gonna take away from other players and the team will not be in sync from what they normally do. what they really need is a guy like camby who can score some but doesn't need to be the focal point offense, who can rebound, is a pretty good shot blocker and a pass first PG who can at least score maybe 10 ppg. the grizzlies got 2 future first round picks, got brown (who has improved the last few games) an has an expiring contract, plus crittendon who is a PG who might have a bright future. just think the grizzlies got the better of the deal and the lakers got hosed.

The Lakers are 2-1 against the Suns this season, and everyone remembers the great Kobe vs. Phoenix series. This is a guy that worked them over pretty well by himself. Now he has a supporting cast. Fisher's back. Bynum has broken out. Farmar has stepped up. Now you bring in Pau? That's a heck of a series.
The Spurs have flat-out not looked Championship caliber. If they don't step it up for the playoffs (which they could, which is why I said we'll have to wait and see how they play), the Lakers could beat them easily.
Pau wouldn't put most teams over the top. Heck, look at the Griz this year. But we're talking about a team with Kobe Bryant. Pau Gasol is exactly what that guy can use. Like CBQ says, though, next year might be the year. Farmar and Bynum older, Gasol with a full offseason to learn the triangle, and Kobe excited that he has easily his best team since the Championships, all while being coached by a legend.

It is not out of the question at all. NBA is one big bussiness. Lakers just got something (a lot) for nothing. Lakers-Celtics it is.

The Grizzlies, Hornets, and Bobcats are three reasons why i'm not overly scared of the Bucks moving. Apathy has set in Milwaukee in regards to the Bucks, but there still are quite a few loyal fans. Those other three franchises have no fan bases at all.

Here's where Stern should intervene and block the trade for the integrity of the league.....just like Bowie Kuhn did when Charlie Finley tried to sell his all-stars (Rudi, Rollie, etc) to the Yankees.....
I'm more depressed that Donaghy after this one.....there is clearly an unwritten rule that the Lakers aren't allowed to be down for more than two or three seasons......

Thats fine if thats your opinion you are entitled to it
But guys like Camby don't fall off trees
The fact of the matter is Gasol is a premier talent at PF and they acquired him for pennies on the dollar. He will undoubtedly help them make a push in the playoffs. You could poke a few holes in his game "hes never won", "he's considered soft", but he can block shots, he can pass the ball well, he can spread the floor, he can rebound, he can put up 20 points every night. He can do plenty to help them over the package they sent out.
Whether he "put them over the top" remains to be seen and will unfold in this years playoffs.

Yup. Big circus.
The best players that Gasol played with are Battier and Miller. Now he plays with Kobe, Odom, Bynum and Fisher. Fisher alone was big help for Lakers. Bynum is becoming unstopable force of nature. Odom can do a lot of little things. They have bench too and Phill Jackson as coach.
No way this trade hapen without Stern's influence. Lakers got all star player who is healthy and not old and they gave nothing for that. What a BS

yeah i understand what ur saying eastsidebucksfan. i mean gasol is a talent he maybe soft but yeah he can do all what u pretty much said. just not what the lakers needed. still think they got hosed by what they gave up as well. i mean if the lakers traded odom that would have made more sense and still could. otherwise not smart. if the lakers traded odom, brown, and crittendon or a pick or something to denver for camby and j.r. smith that deal would have surely helped them and do better in the playoffs.

Amazing trade for the Lakers. Gasol had a great season last year, and the year before that he led a not very talented Memphis team to 49 wins. He's been underrated for awhile, IMO.
He also has the type of game that will play well in the triangle considering he's both one of the best passing bigs in the league as well as one of the more offensively versatile 7 footers. He'll also benefit greatly on D and on the boards playing next to Bynum when he comes back.
As for Memphis, I don't like the deal and can't say much of anything good about. I also don't see why some people think this trade makes any of their good young players available. Conley and Gay aren't going anywhere. I also don't see Darko going anywhere considering his age and the fact that he's relatively cheap for a center prospect.

1. Great deal for the lakers, no doubt on that.
2. Chicago must be kicking themselves hard as I am sure had more to offer. Paxon needs to grow some balls and make a trade.
3. Don't count on the Lakers winning it all this year. WE said the same thing last year following the Iverson trade. Denver with melo, AI and Camby should challenge for the title. Didnt happen. Takes time for the pieces to all fit together especially to see how Byrum is when he comes back from the injury.
4. Griz are really blowing things up, going young, lots of cap and many draft picks. If I were Cleveland or Atlanta I would be talking to the Griz seriously to get a point guard. Just toss them a draft pick, expiring contract or a young cheap forward and they could get a steal here.

Formula to win in NBA
1 All star gets you 6-9th seed in conf, 1rst round playoff loss
2 All stars gets you to second round of playoffs
