As far as talent goes, Kobe is number 1 and Lebron number 2. Kobe is better in terms of shooting, defense, and clutch. But after seeing Lebron's performance against Detroit on game 5 last year and sinking ice cold jumpers against LA and Portland the past few days, I have no doubt in my mind that he'll eventually be on par with Kobe eye to eye, but he needs to get the elusive championship ring first. No one doubts his ability to improve every season, question is: is Cleveland the place for Bron to win it all the next 3-5 years?!?

It's funny how Kobe looks like he's looking down in both pity and disgust at the same time.

Now we'll see if Kobe has the torch.
Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...

Kobe is still the best. Especially now with this trade. All people are gonna be talking about is Kobe for MVP and how good the Lakers are from now until May and probably into June.

funny pic but it's 2 years old. Lebron got better. Not saying he surpassed Kobe but it's def a debate.

It's not, but winning changes the perceptions of a player. Look at KG

Oh he can play more like he did before Bynum went down. I thought that was pretty transparent. Oh well I guess not. Before Bynum went down Kobe was a triple double threat every night.

LeBron has definetly outplayed Kobe this season and last season Kobe was better in the regular last year but LeBron erupted during playoff time ..

Im not gonna base it all on one game but no doubt LeBron either is or is at the door step.

I wish these guys played in the same conference because playoff time LeBron vs Kobe in a series :o sure to be a show

thats not really true..hes been more of a triple double threat w/o him than with him..becuase the ball is in his hands more now.

Kobe will be worse statistically when Bynum and Gasol come back..but hed be in the same neighborhood of wins with KG, Nash, Duncan.

totally agree .. and one of either Bynum or Gasol's rebound total is sure to go down .. some stats will go down but most likely the most important will go up .. the W Column

And without Bynum he looks individually phenomenal. Just shows he still has that 7th gear to step into.

What's with the obsession of Kobe vs Lebron?

I see these on every NBA Message Board.

Why can't people enjoy both players?

Both when it's all said and done could be top 10 players of all-time.

We are privileged to witness both.

Obviously one day because of Mother Nature and Father Time, the torch will be passed from Kobe to more than likely Lebron.

I'm sorry Griever I can't agree with you when you say Lebron has definitely outplayed Kobe this season, have you seen Kobe play?

In another couple of years I can see Lebron surpassing Kobe as the best player in the league but right now... Kobe and Duncan are number 1.

It's odd that I'm saying this but Kobe doesn't get nearly as much hype as Lebron. Kobe can drop 40+ and quite frankly, no one gives a damn because it's routine for him.

I don't understand why some people think Kobe is the best scorer.

There are many players who can average as many points as Kobe but with a higher eFG% and TS%.

Scoring a lot of points is dependent on ATTEMPTING a lot of points.

How many times in his career has his fg% been higher than the Lakers' team fg%?

I think it's 0, maybe 1 at the most.

No, there aren't. There are only a few players who can score that many points, period. What are there, 4 players currently in the league who have ever scored 30 ppg in a season? LeBron, Kobe, AI and McGrady.

You can't just scale a 15 FGA player to 25 FGA and assume their FG% will stay the same or even close to the same. It just doesn't work that way. The more of a load you are asked to take, the more double and triple teams you face and the more contested shots you have to take being the guy who the ball ends up in hands with a couple seconds left on the shot clock.

Kobe's .580% TS while scoring 31+ppg was one of the best ever.

You're talking about a guy that has dropped 50 points or more in 3 quarters at least 6 times. He's outscored a whole team over 2 or 3 quarters about 4 times. He's had the most ridiculous 40 point and 50 point streaks since Wilt. Lebron's career high is 56 and Kobe 's high for a single half is 55. IIRC he still has the record for consecutive made three pointers and three pointers made in a game.

The reason his fg% is low is the same reason his teammates all shoot ridiculously high percentages (compared to their career avg). Did you really think Farmar, Fisher, and Walton were just that good at shooting threes? Hell, even Smush looked 10x better next to Kobe than he's ever looked anywhere else (Suns, Cavs, Heat).
Don't let Kobe's numbers fool you, he's the best perimeter player in the game by far.

Couldn't agree anymore with this post... To be honest, despite living in LA, I couldn't stand the whole Hollywood glitz and its association with the Lakers. Someone would draw my wrath when they said that Kobe was better than Jordan and I vehemently disagreed with such malarkey. However, there's no denying Kobe's talent and getting to see him play 82 games a year on local tv is something not to be taken for granted. As Mother Nature and Father Time comes around, Kobe will eventually become the shell of his former self and torch will go to Lebron. Never was a big fan of the Lakers or Kobe, but we are priviliged to see him play despite Laker tickets being highest in the league I believe and prices were unfortunately geared towards rich snot-nosed people... Love LA and the weather, just hate Hollywood in general...

Kobay wrote:my my how pathetic kobe bryant's impact has become and how guys like LeBron and Jordan gets a pass for not being able to take a crappy team to a championship. ANd LeBron gets a pass for taking the elevator to the champ finals. While what kobe did in 05-07 gets discredited as ball hog while LeBron gets a nod. In addition, kobe actually got the "wins" for lakers in three peat era, you know like many says mvps gets you wins (some who argue against kobe suggest Bynum is MVP for lakers now, but he is not first option... oh the hypocrisy). I don't know what to say there will always be a double standard for him.

The MVP award is a joke most years. Just the fact that Shaq only has one discredits the whole award from about '93 on.

Well at the risk of not sounding homerish (like just coming into this thread and saying kobe is the best) i gave LeBron his props .. i still believe Kobe is the best in the game and has been robbed the past couple of seasons for never being givin a Season MVP

but the reason i gave bron his props is because stats wise he has played better this season (and in the head-to-head matchup) but then again you have to take into account he play's the 3 and almost every play in Cleveland's offense runs through his hands (not to mention that amazing Physique god blessed him with)...

your right, Kobe never really gets his props anymore .. LeBron or Bosh do it .. its frontpage news and they get every compliment possible from the Media but when Kobe does it .. more routine like you say and the media usually finds some kind of way to criticize him like he took to many shots or his team will never win that way

but this season there has been far less 40 point games with development and the great play of his team(until these injuries occured once again) oh and btw .. i have watched every Laker game this season so i have an idea how Kobe play's ..no doubt the Best in the league right now but i also have watched a few Cavs games and LeBron aint far off
