Plus the fact he is actually better at basketball than the people who have been suggested.

The only problem I can see with Odom being at the 3 spot is that if Kobe has too guard the other teams 3 like LeBron in the final minutes of the game Odom will have a problems guarding their SG.

*Edit:Not a captain as i thought but surely one of the leaders in the locker room.

Most of the reasons listed for trading Lamar are not nonsense...but make perfect sense. No one is saying trade him just to trade him.

i really think odom would be fine but in case they really want a shooter, they can trade him to gs for al and pietrus. al would be very nice asset in the triangle while odom will be a great facilitator for the warriors.

another option could be odom and vlad for marion and banks. odom for vc, or odom, farmar, walton and mihm for artest and bibby.

Can we trade Odom for Redd?

PG-Fisher/Farmar
SG-Redd/Vujacic
SF-Kobe/Ariza/Walton
PF-Gasol/Turiaf/Radmanovic
C-Bynum/Mihm

I want to see Odom play with this version first before we make a final word on him.

Guys we held odom for 3 years. What did we get in return for him? Go away from this mentality, a player 10 years in the league getting paid 14 mil for his potential. lakers will have a difficult time if they hold on to this fool.

 One right here. He's perfect (shooting, defense, unselfishness).

Might have to be a 3 team trade tho to find one good expiring contract.

It'd be nice to find a taker for Luke or Rad at this point too to free us up financially for Bynum, Turiaf, Sasha, etc.

I would imagine Western Conference rivals wouldn't t want to help us put the finishing touch on an potential championship dynasty

Ask Rockets fans what they think about Battier's contribution this season...

Since you're asking, there is about nine pages worth of discussion about it in this very thread...

Battier's a really good idea. Great guy, does all the little things -- still a very good defender, can knock down the open 3 with relative ease.

Mike Miller, Shane Battier or Anthony Parker all seem like good ideas.

Have you guys checked out Anthony Parker's 3P%? I knew he was a good 3 points shooter.. but 48.3% on 1.84 made per game this season? That's ridiculous. He's a bit old though (over 32 and a half)..

I say we keep Odom and see what works out, and if it doesn't work too well, we can certainly look to move him before the deadline next season and get a very good player in return because next year is his last year here.

Or we can wait out the next season and let him go (dumping his 14 Million) salary. That 14 Million could get us a very good player in return, but we also have to extend Drews contract so who knows how much he'll be getting.

But I would like that Lakers keep Odom for this season despite his disappointment, the guy is very versatile, it would be great to have the following:

Starting:

Fish
Kobe
Ariza
Gasol
Bynum

Bench:

Farmar/Sasha
Luke/Radman
Odom
Turiaf
Mihm

The starters have Fish for shooting, Kobe (all around), Ariza (great defense), Pao (Offense and some defense), Bynum (all-around).

Bench brings Odom and Farmar for Offense, Luke can contribute well in running the triangle for the bench, Turiaf and Mihm can bring some defense while our starters rest.

And in late times of games we can put a big front with Odom, Gasol, and Bynum with Kobe and Fisher.

I think this team is very deep and should keep Odom for some versatility.

Either Lamar or Pau WILL be dealt, there's no question about it seeing as Drew will get his extention over the offseason.. Giving us 4 players making 10-20 mil. Not happening.

I think we can all agree Lamar is the most likely to go unless Gasol comes in & just flat out sucks..

With those things in mind.. IMO Lamar will be dealt for a SF on a more affordable contract, that can hit the outside shot.. Packaged with some expiring contracts.

What I propose is this:

Lamar Odom
Coby Carl

for.

Hedo Turkoglu
Pat Garrity
Carlos Arroyo

Hedo is playing out of his mind this year so I have serious doubts about the Magic going for this.. But it's worth a shot.

Any deal we make for Lamar will be something along those lines.. We will not take back a Marion type player who makes big money/wants a huge extention.

You can bank on that

Odom averages 15/9/5 in his career, and can play any position 2-5

He's not going anywhere.

Unless he wants to 'average' about 7 mil per year on an extention.. He is as good as gone.

As long as we pay the luxury tax we can keep him through the remainder of his contract.

If the Lakers can negotiate with Odom to cut on his contract next season and spread it for three year say $8m for each season to save some tax payments. Their current roster gives them a $75M in payrolls for next season and if the tax is set at $70m thats a $5m tax payments. Maybe they should trade him for a package that includes an expiring contract before the deadline.

No problems but its not going to happen. He is a natural 4 and makes too much money for his production. Pre gasol Id be in favor of it but now its just too much salary.
