Any Interest In Kwame Brown??
I've read on some of the message boards on RealGM that there is a good chance that Memphis is going to waive Kwame Brown in the next couple of days. If he does in fact hit the market, would you be interested in picking him up for the rest of the season?
I imagine he would have some interest in signing here since he'll probably be looking to go someplace where he can play a significant amount of minutes and drive his value up.

The name of the game is to lose games but as for adding Kwame... the cost for him would be next to nothing and if he signs for the remainder of the season... the risk really is nothing.
Back to Memphis... if this buyout does happen, it would mean that the Grizz will have done the following in the past week.
-Bought out Damon Stoudamire
- Traded Gasol for 20 cents on a dollar
-Bought out Aaron Mckie
-Bought out Kwame Brown
-Traded Stromile Swift for Jason Collins
We stand no chance to compete with them for ping pong balls. Also, John Hollinger is reporting that they will have about $15MIL in cap space this summer which can't be accurate.

Well, IMO the risk isn't next to nothing.
Let's say he comes in and sucks...if that happens we lose more games and let him walk at the end of the season. No harm no foul there.
Now let's say he comes in and actually plays half decent (or just better than our current options, which isn't saying much) for about 30 games or so. What's the worst that can happen there? He could actually dupe Ed into making him an offer (assuming we can't find any other bigs in FA). Now we are stuck with this piece of crap for a few more years, eating away at our cap space, when he reverts back to the Kwame Brown we see on a hightly basis.
I really see no positive in adding him. If he helps us, we win a few more games this year and hurt our lottery chances. If he comes in and plays like crap, he takes a roster spot and eats away at minutes I would much rather see Jason Smith get since I think he's a better long term option than Kwame.
People do realize Kwame had been so bad that Lakers fans boo him every time he touches the ball or enters the game, right?

It's awesome that you covered every option except for one which is a convienient one to leave out.
What if Kwame comes in and plays decent ball and then, as you said... we miss out on everyone we target this off-season so we re-sign him and he continues to play decent ball??
The odds of that happening are slim but I'm not about to be Negadelphia about signing a guy to a small contract for half a season. Also, if this were BK I would worry about the "duping" issue but I think Stefanski has higher goals.

and if Stefanski isn't a guy they would get dupped, then there is no chance we bring in Kwame. Most talent evaluators would tell you that Kwame is a cmplete bust. He had not developed AT ALL in like 7 years. At what point do we think it's going to kick in with him?
I heard something amazing about Kwame the other day. You know he can't even palm a basketball. That is crazy for a near 7 ft kid. He must have the smallest hands ever found on a guy his size. About the only move Kwame has on offense is that little jump hook. In 7 years, that's all he's come up with....garbage!
I'd rather see us take a shot on some kid from the D league before paying Kwame a dime. I'm not trying to be hard on the guy either (I know it's hard to see that). I really was pulling for Kwame a few years ago. I think he's a good kid and it had to be a lot of pressure on him coming out of HS, but that fact is, he just hasn't done anything to prove he's an NBA caliber big. Instead he decided to follwo in the Kandi man's footsteps.

Here's what you need to ask yourself. Why would Memphis want to pay him half of this year's salary (about 4.5 mil) just to tell him to take hike? Why wouldn't they just keep him and use the 35 + games to evaluate him themsleves? Especially when they are low on bigs as is. They would have nothing to lose (just like us) by keeping him, right?

Hey man... you're not going to get an arguement from me about the fact that....
Kwame Brown is worse than yestersay's garbage.
What I'm saying is that signing him has no risk and when there's no risk... well, that's something that interests me.
I have faith that ES won't be duped the way BK would have and so all I see are positives.

I hear ya, what it comes back to me is this...
If Kwame comes in and plays decent, would we want to resign him? If no, then it served no purpose other than to potentially hurt our lottery odds. If he plays well, we resign him and he takes cap space from a legit FA we could sign over the next couple years (even if it's only 3-4 mil/year, it would be a waste IMO).
With that said, I will end my Kwame discussion cause I have given him too much time as-is.

TGP - don't be persuaded so easy, lol
I see where you are coming from too. The idea of Kwame helping us just shows how desperate we are to find an upgrade over what we have now. Any player with the slightest bit of potential sounds like an upgrade to us. While it's hard, I would rather just be patient and pray they we find a diamond big in the next 2 years (hopefully this offseason via trade, FA or draft).
