[Just a thought] Aldridge for Kidd

Post#1 » by toz178 » Sat Feb 2, 2008 11:10 am

Guys, dont flame me here, im just curious of what you think about a Aldridge for Kidd trade with some pieces around it. Would you do a Aldridge, Jack and LaFrentz package for Kidd and either Boone or Williams (take your pick.)

Having Kidd here could be huge for us. We need a veteran presence on such a young team. We are giving up a very, very good young talent but i think it is worth it, especially considering we will have Frye and Boone or Williams, which are 2 young PF;s with plenty of upsize. Lafrentz is just in their to match salaries.

IMO a a team consisting of:

Kidd
Roy
Martell
Boone/Williams
Oden

With Blake, Outlaw, Frye and Pryzbillia coming off the bench is better than the current team plus Oden.
The nets could be all over this IMO. They have been needing an inside presence for years and Aldridge provides this for them. They also get Jack as a the new young PG and they get the salary dump of Raef Lafrentz

What are your thoughts?

In a word: No. Aldridge is a main part of the core, more important than Outlaw and I know many here would be angry if Outlaw got shipped off for Kidd. I like Sean Williams as a player but he simply wouldnt fit in with the culture we're breeding. It is pretty unrealistic that Portland would even consider this IMO.

No. Not even close. Sorry, but this is an easy pass.

I think the only way that I would really be interested in Kidd would be if we traded miles or raef, straight up in a one for one trade (read: I have no interest in acquiring Kidd)

It's an idea, but I don't think it's a terribly good one.

Aldridge has been a little disappointing this year as far as consistency and inside scoring and rebounding. Some of that can be attributed to adjustment and a sophomore slump I believe.

But, like with all the blazers, it's easy to forget just how young LMA is. He's only 22. If he follows the normal progression for a big man who is fast and agile, the difference between him now, and 4 years from now, will be very significant.

no deal

No chance at all. Anyone thinking the Nets will get that kind of return for Kidd is off their rocker.

How about a counter offer:

Frye used to be confused with Aldridge so lets swap him and add Jack, Raef and three second round draft picks for Kidd and Boone. :)

Aldridge won't be traded for anyway right now. He looks to be an excellent compliment to Oden. He's also one of the hardest working guys on the team so he's expected to improve substantially over the years.

His inexperience and lack of strength is showing right now. Looks Kidd will eventually be traded to Dallas for whatever Dallas and a third team (might not be us) is willing to offer.

Philly got Andre Miller, capspace, and two low draft picks for AI who is younger so I can't see anyone offering a better package. The most I would include in the Kidd trade to get Harris and Bass would be Jack, Frye, James Jones, Green and a couple of seconds.

The list goes on and on for teams with Star players who get basically nothing in return. Toronto got trash from the Nets for Vince Carter. The Sixers took pennies on the dollar for Iverson. To think that an aging Kidd who can't hit the broad side of a barn is going to get a young player as good as Aldridge is just ridiculous.

It's good to see you and Bonzi agree. I had to read it twice

Kidd: Great player for 2-3 years.
Aldridge: Good to great player for the next 10 years.

Not a tough choice.

You just don't trade a big young promising player for a very good but aging point guard.
I do like Kidd and would welcome him to Portland, but not in this kind of deal.
