The funny thing is Colangelo has had multiple opportunities to shore up the rebounding/slashing weakness, but instead he opts for one dimensional shooters.

2006 Draft: Bargnani (shooter)
2006 Free agency: signs shooters
2007 Free agency: shooter in Krapono, trades two 2nd rounders for Chuckfino

I can understand the obsession of shooters in 2006, but after getting their asses whopped by NJ's slashing and rebounding, what was the point of throwing that money at Kapono? The Raptors needed a rebounder/slasher and to this day, its still a major weakness.

Maybe the Raptors need TJ.

The assumption that BC loves one dimensional shooters is false.

What about trading a shooter in Bonner for Nesterovic?
What about signing Garbo, a solid defender, rebounder?
What about signing AP, a solid 2-way player?
What about signing Fred Jones, though not successful, still primarily a slasher?
What about trading for Hump, primarily a rebounder?
What about trading for Delfino, a solid defender?

Though I agree we could use a solid slasher/scorer, your point is off base.

The Kapono signing was an unorthodox approach no doubt, but when you think about it, it makes perfect sense. We got killed in the playoffs because NJ's swarming defense crowded Bosh and shut him down. Kapono being the best shooter in the league, forces the D to respect him, giving Bosh more room down low. I suspect we'll get to see JK true value in the playoffs.

I don't expect BC to do much this season at the trade deadline. I honestly believe that if TJ was healthy throughout this season, there would at least be some trade talks with one of our PGs. But with TJ entirely out of the trading block right now due to his uncertainty, it also means Jose is out of any trade talks - even though his value is as high as ever.

However, if TJ can come back and become the premier PG that he was, I think either him, or Jose via a sign-and-trade, along with Rasho's expiring contract, can be one of the most lucrative trade packages this off-season.

Heck, if the Lakers can get an all-star for expiring Kwame Brown (9mil), draft picks and scrubs, then I can only imagine good things for a package that consists of a rising PG, and an expiring Rasho (8mil). Add in any Raptors scrubs as BC wishes.

I am fine with trading Kapono or Parker but Delfino was a steal and should be looked at as a future starter on this team at the 2 guard spot.

This just depends when you want to make the next step. If it is this year we are at a disadvantage because of TJ going down. The only step I can see is Kapono and Dixon plus the 2009 first for Cory Mag (or someone of his value and ability) and then sign a back up point to be behind Jose because TJ is a ??

If you assume that the move above will still not get you out of the first round then I think you wait until the off season.

Off season move ideas to think about.

Sign Jose

Extend Moon

Garbo to EU for Roko's buy out of both players to balance the cash to get a back up PG for the future.

Trade TJ for a some future pick or lesser value because he is a long term is a mistery or just live with his issue and have three PG on the roster.

This up coming draft has more big men than great wings. Many of the wings are young and would need some time to be NBA ready.

I would package Rasho and one of our wings for an upgrade in that area and Draft a solid defending rebounding young big to spell Bargs and Bosh and keep Hump to continue his improvement.

Bigs Bosh, Bargs, Hump, New draft pick & Baston. New pick or Hump could be traded for vet big if the right deal comes along.

Wings ( 2 of AP, CD, JK ) New up grade must be a starter/slasher now, Moon and Joey.

PG Jose TJ and Roko.
